It's an investigative series about a veteran retired skilled officer who is always called back to give services to the police force to unravel critical and challenging cases. The drama gives an insight into tactics and techniques used in the course of unveiling the truth behind criminalities. In the THE BLIND WITNESS series, murder of a woman happens at a home where the only witness is a blind lady who has lived with the master of this home since he was a young child through which period, the bond between them grew stronger. During investigations and later during trial, the blind lady by all tests and cross examinations, convinces the court beyond reasonable doubt that although she is fond of her master who is by this time also confirmed dead, it was him who killed his wife before taking his own life. However, on the day of judgement, prosecution tell court that something unusual had happened. That, the blind lady was long dead and therefore could not have been a witness in the court. The court gets stuck in case of DOUBLE IDENTITY. As police gets into the nitty-gritties of this quagmire, again something else queer emerges. The body of the woman who was found killed in a bed does not match the wife's DNA and therefore the wife cannot be presumed dead. This turns this case into multiple murders. Things worsen when the blind witness cannot be traced after the court had granted her leave. And, like from a ghostly movie, no trace of her fingerprints can be found. Was she a ghost on a revenge mission?

Book excerpt: This book focuses upon two themes: the definition of 'family' and the impact of the expansion of the concept of 'family' in law: and family fights over wills and estates - what recourse family members may have in challenging an estate. The first part, `The challenge of the "new family" for Law', considers the challenge both in the inter vivos and the postmortem contexts in the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. A particular focus is upon the dramatic expansion of the definition of family from the traditional nuclear family consisting of a husband, wife and their mutual children to a definition that includes unmarried heterosexual and same sex couples living together and, in some jurisdictions to new kinds of companionate partnerships that are not based on a sexual relationship. In some jurisdictions such developments are simply an expression of sharing responsibility by allocating it in the private domain, as opposed to the public potentially through social welfare; in others, particularly in the United States, it is a defence of fundamental institutions and, with it, a defence of society itself. The second part, 'Family fights over wills and estates', examines the law in Australia, Switzerland, France, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Its comparison of civil and common law approaches shows how the law expresses the same principle objects - protection of family and obligations towards key family members - but does so from entirely different perspectives; and where the common law which enshrined the notion of testamentary freedom is being qualified through the expanding domain of family provision legislation, the civil law which is based on codified shares and allocated responsibilities expressed through proportionate entitlements in estates, is being qualified through a range of disqualifying and varying mechanisms.

Book excerpt: Drama. BLIND WITNESS brings together three libretti written in the early 1990s by poet Charles Bernstein for composer Ben Yarmolinsky. Bernstein & Yarmolinsky's trilogy combines vernacular American lyrics with vernacular social forms. 'Blind Witness News' uncannily mimics the format of the eleven o'clock evening news with segments for international and local news, weather, business news, and sports. Then, as now, war sets the dark undertone. 'The Subject'--at times elegiac, at times parodic--sets a psychoanalytic session to music. 'The Lenny Paschen Show' focuses on Lenny, the Kamikaze King of Comedy, a late night talk show host at the edge of his career, pushing his schtick to the limit. When 'Blind Witness News' was first performed in 1990, Allan Kozinn of The New York Times wrote: "Mr. Bernstein's libretto catches with near perfection the stock verbal moves--the forced laughter, empty banter, catch-phrases and cutesy segues--in which television news reports are cushioned."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disappearance is marked by a devastating absence. It constitutes a form of violence that rips open a wound in time, offering no viable recovery and no meaningful justice. It provides alibis to perpetrators while denying victims their humanity. For those who are left to live with its presence, the terror is infinite. State of Disappearance brings together the power of artistic testimony and witnessing with critical voices to ask deeper questions about extreme violence, the normalization of human vanishing, state and ideological complicity, and memorialization, along with wider concerns about what it means to be human in the twenty-first century. A gallery of dedicated artworks by Mexican abstract painter Chantal Meza inspires each chapter, bringing the aesthetic into critical conversation and leading to a multidisciplinary collection that charts a new path for recovering humanity in the face of its annihilation. Featuring contributions from theorists of violence who are concerned with the issue of forcibly removing humans from the surface of the earth, while also appreciative of the complex layers of appearance and disappearance in the contemporary world, the book attends to the many ways disappearance occurs and the ethical questions this raises. State of Disappearance traverses the difficult terrain of human denial to rethink some of the most devastating chapters in human history and their enduring relevance to our lives.
