Bipolar is a serious illness that requires an integrated approach to solving the enigma. This is an informal guide that pulls no punches and talks about everything from sexual promiscuity to manic spending to delusions of grandeur. Over twenty years, I have learned to lessen its power over my existence. It can become less of an illness and, over time, more of an opportunity. We need to look at bipolar in new ways to get different results. Having a reassuring friend who’s been there makes the difference. I teach many basic, easy to learn approaches. A recent test reader, who was in the mire of illness, described the book as a bridge out: she returns to The Bipolar Guide to review the principles that helped her to live. I strive in this book to take alternative approaches to work through the negative illness traits to plug into the gift side. I have been through the highs and the lows of manic-depression and have embraced the advantages, and continue to live an enhanced life. I promote responsibility in this book—there are no excuses, just potential. You can harness bipolar to serve you: it is a tough break-in of the wild horse, but it is possible. We need to look at bipolar in new ways. People need friendly assurance and prodding to surmount the challenges of bipolar. This is a bold responsible approach to living successfully with Bipolar Disorder. Two decades of tough manic-depression lessons are passed to you. This informal guide will be your friend and coach to assist you in finding your own way: we need to learn new approaches to attain different results in our lives.

Denslow acknowledges the dark side, and does not run from it. We really can check out anytime we want. Blow a gasket going high, or sink into the dirt lost forever, but if we stay connected with planet earth and this life what we can do right here right now, then we can have a reason to hang out for longer periods of time in the middle ground.” .... Being bi polar is an opportunity to practice everyday the way we can serve others in the same capacity we have to serve ourselves. We lead people to a better life, through being an example of continual discovery and overcoming our inner swings. We provide nurturing comfort and guidance because we know firsthand the need for it. .... Compassion is the gem of living with our mental opportunities. The better we are at taking care of ourselves through highs and lows, the deeper we can feel connected with people that experience any size of bump or vision in the road. .... “Clear your energy, Honor your Rhythm, Live your vision.” ~ George Denslow

All of us, whether religious, agnostic or atheist, are searching for meaning. And in this wise and life-affirming book, non-believer Alain de Botton both rejects the supernatural claims of the major religions and points out just how many good ideas they sometimes have about how we should live. And he suggests that non-believers can learn and steal from them. Picking and choosing from the thousands of years of advice assembled by the world's great religions, Alain de Botton presents a range of fascinating ideas and practical insights on art, community, love, friendship, work, life and death. He shows how they can be of use to us all, irrespective of whether we do or don't believe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to help—and how not to hinder—your teenage daughter’s healthy development as she prepares to step into her own circle of power. Today’s teen girls face pressures such as an increase in mental health concerns, mounting demands to be both beautiful and successful, and addiction to social media and the approval of others, all of which can result in a damaging decline in personal satisfaction and self-esteem. Rooted, Resilient, and Ready explores how today's teen girl assembles her identity through the interweaving of genetics, family, and friends, and the masks she may feel she needs to wear to be accepted, such as the super girl, the invisible girl, or the cool girl. The book counters the negative cultural messages and potential for disordered eating that affect a teen's body image and guides parents through Lindsay Sealey's three-part approach to a happier, healthier teen: food, fitness, fun. Balancing research with practical advice and interviews, Sealey encourages parents to nurture the process of their teen’s development and guide their teen girls even though they may often feel out of step with them. Journeying with teen girls from lost and let-down to fierce and fearless, Rooted, Resilient, and Ready gives parents the tools to prepare their daughters to step into their power and potential, choosing progress over perfection, security over uncertainty, happiness over self-pity, and authenticity over conformity.
