Book excerpt: The Newtonian constant of gravitation, G (often referred to as "big G"), is one of the most important of the universal fundamental physical constants. However, its value is the least well-determined of all such constants. This is because G is very difficult to measure reliably. Even though the gravitational force is responsible for star and galaxy formation on the massive scale of the universe, the force itself is minuscule on the tiny scale of the laboratory masses which must be used in the measurement. Consequently, its experimental value is prone to a high degree of inaccuracy. Moreover, it is the viewpoint of most physicists that G is not related to the other fundamental physical constants by any theory or understanding that is currently available. Therefore, it is thought that the value of G can only be obtained by measurement, and not from evaluating it in terms of other fundamental constants whose values are known with much greater precision and accuracy. The work presented in the book is an attempt to break through this mental barrier by demonstrating through numerical analysis that G is definitely related to the other fundamental constants. Consequently, it is possible to propose an exact value for G (to nine significant figures) that is obtainable from evaluation instead of from measurement.

Impeccable.”—Wall Street Journal “A porthole into another world.”—Scientific American “Brings science dissemination to a new level.”—Science The most trusted explainer of the most mind-boggling concepts pulls back the veil of mystery that has too long cloaked the most valuable building blocks of modern science. Sean Carroll, with his genius for making complex notions entertaining, presents in his uniquely lucid voice the fundamental ideas informing the modern physics of reality. Physics offers deep insights into the workings of the universe but those insights come in the form of equations that often look like gobbledygook. Sean Carroll shows that they are really like meaningful poems that can help us fly over sierras to discover a miraculous multidimensional landscape alive with radiant giants, warped space-time, and bewilderingly powerful forces. High school calculus is itself a centuries-old marvel as worthy of our gaze as the Mona Lisa. And it may come as a surprise the extent to which all our most cutting-edge ideas about black holes are built on the math calculus enables. No one else could so smoothly guide readers toward grasping the very equation Einstein used to describe his theory of general relativity. In the tradition of the legendary Richard Feynman lectures presented sixty years ago, this book is an inspiring, dazzling introduction to a way of seeing that will resonate across cultural and generational boundaries for many years to come.

They set themselves the challenge of boiling down what is essential on each subject into sentences of 140 characters, and the results are both entertaining and brilliantly informative. Not a word is wasted. The reader is not patronized and learns something on every page. If only all science writing could be so precise and so economical. Only science writers of a very high calibre could achieve such compression. Marcus Chown - 'the finest cosmology writer of our day' (Matt Ridley) - has known the Dutch writer Govert Schilling for twenty years. Schilling pioneered this very swift form of explanation in a Dutch newspaper, and suggested to Chown that they collaborate on bringing it to a wider audience. Tweeting the Universe is unlike any other science book.

Book excerpt: This book describes an exciting, but unfinished scientific adventure story. It tells of the epic struggle by scientists to wrest the secrets from nature of how to control the force of electromagnetism and how to control aerodynamic forces. Control of the force of gravity has yet to be achieved. Analogies suggest where a breakthrough might be made. Greenglow & the search for gravity control follows the attempts mankind has made over the years to understand gravity as well as looking at more recent experiments to control it. The book is written by an engineer, who worked in the aerospace industry, and who persuaded BAE Systems to sponsor Project Greenglow, a small research programme aimed at investigating some ideas for controlling gravity. Based on analogies in nature, the book provides a road map for scientists, engineers and the general public who want to know more about gravity and our search to control it. Discovering nature’s secrets is an exciting, but unfinished story – there is much we still don’t know. The book describes the quest by scientists to gain control of gravity and electromagnetism, the two long-range forces of nature. Faraday discovered the secret of electromagnetic control. Newton began the search for gravity control, later continued by Einstein, but it eluded them. One day the secret will be discovered either by careful experimentation or, as is often the case, by stumbling across it by chance. In the future it is expected that gravity control will underpin a new method of propulsion and this book concludes with a look at some possible forms. Greenglow is a fascinating read for any aerospace engineers, physicists, experimental research scientists, science journalists, science historians, futurologists, UFO enthusiasts, Star Trekkies and general public interested in the breakthrough in understanding of how to control gravity.

It uses both humor and heart to lay out overwhelming evidence for the existence of an Intelligent Designer. This book is aimed at our current short attention span society that is fluent in both cynicism and sarcasm. People who appreciate The Onion and The Babylon Bee will enjoy the satirical approach the author uses when he dissects both science and religion. Readers of The Case for Christ will be drawn to the well-researched information explaining why Christianity is a faith founded on reason and intellect while Christian parents of teens and millennials will appreciate a book they can share with their children that proves theirs is not a mindless faith. Throughout the book, the reader will be stunned by the awe-inspiring amount of precise fine tuning our world and universe demand as well as be amazed at how much information they've totally forgotten since high school.

Book excerpt: “In a unique take on the cosmos, Gould makes the case that the emergence of a great many things are not only pre-ordained, but predictable.” (Forbes) We know the universe has a history, but does it also have a story of self-creation to tell? Yes, in Roy R. Gould’s account. He offers a compelling narrative of how the universe?with no instruction other than its own laws?evolved into billions of galaxies and gave rise to life. Far from being a random accident, the universe is hard at work, extracting order from chaos. Making use of the best current science, Gould turns what many assume to be true about the universe on its head. The cosmos expands inward, not outward. Gravity can drive things apart, not merely together. And the universe seems to defy entropy as it becomes more ordered, rather than the other way around. Strangest of all, the universe is exquisitely hospitable to life, despite its being constructed from undistinguished atoms and a few unexceptional rules of behavior. Universe in Creation explores whether the emergence of life, rather than being a mere cosmic afterthought, may be written into the most basic laws of nature. “A must-have for all avid popular science fans.” —Astronomy Now “Gould . . . proposes a fascinating thesis about life’s emergence in this eloquent debut” —Publishers Weekly “A joyous romp through a cosmos full of wonders.” —Roald Hoffmann, Nobel Laureate and author of Beyond the Finite “Exciting, original, and extremely well written.” —Avi Loeb, Harvard University, New York Times bestselling author of Extraterrestrial “Fascinating. . . . Gould artfully describes various . . . highlights in universal history, like the formation of stars and planets. Many of these moments are majestic.” —New Republic

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the presented book "Self Evolution of the Universe", those laws of nature have been mentioned, which are used by man knowingly or unknowingly almost daily in his daily life, or sees happening daily. These rules are directly used in the whole universe. Human life can be made simple and easy by using these rules. The laws written in this book prove Galileo, Newton, Einstein's law wrong, and the correct and correct way of working of nature. explain accurately. This book proves that so far the mechanical physics being taught in schools and colleges is wrong. An external force is required for a body to move in a circular orbit. For example, tying the stone with a thread and moving it around with hands etc. In the absence of external force, no body can change its velocity or direction (Fₒ=m∆vₒ). Like a gas cylinder. The unbalanced force applied on a body is equal to the product of the mass of the body and the change in the velocity of the body (F=m∆v). For example, applying force on a stationary ball to bring it into motion. No mass system of the universe can change the mass of its mass system by its force by keeping its mass constant. For example, the gas inside the gas cylinder does not change the mass of the gas cylinder. In the absence of external force, the initial total momentum of a system is equal to the final total momentum of the system (m1v1±m2v2=m3v3±m4v4). For example, in a system of two trains, the total momentum before the collision of the trains is equal to the total momentum after the collision of the trains. There is no such thing as energy, dark matter, dark energy in nature. According to Balaram's theory of gravitational force, the acceleration due to gravity of any mass system of the universe tries to bring its entire mass system to the center of mass of its mass system. Gravitational acceleration depends on the mass of the bodies, i.e., when a body of different mass is dropped from the same height from the earth (mass system) in a free state, it takes different time for the bodies to hit the earth (mass system). Due to the acceleration due to gravity, when a body is dropped from the same height from the earth, a body of more mass first and a body of less mass collides with the earth later. The acceleration due to gravity of a body of equal mass depends on the radius of the body as follows. No body in the universe rotates on its axis, this is the reason why the moon always has the same surface when viewed from the earth. The Moon does not directly revolve around the Earth. The Earth and the Moon directly revolve around the center of mass of the Earth's system (the organization of the Earth and Moon). Every body in the universe revolves around the center of mass of its system of mass. The Sun also revolves around the center of mass of the Solar System. This is the reason, that the closest planet to the Sun (Buddha) appears to have the highest orbital eccentricity. The Earth also revolves around the center of mass of the Earth's system. This is the reason that the path of rotation of the Moon appears elliptical when viewed from Earth. The Sun and all other planets, meteorites, etc. revolve around the center of mass of the Solar System. The Sun is closest to the center of mass of the Solar System, so we seem to be confused, that the planets that revolve around the center of mass of the Solar System revolve around the Sun. Light has mass, which is why light gets reflected in a more gravitational field. The man who will acquire the knowledge of all the laws of nature, that person will be able to control the whole universe by using the laws of nature.

The biggest project on her agenda is creating world peace, but first she must depose her bloodthirsty brother Ares, God of War. To do so, she must deploy a supernatural force called The Power, which can demand a terrible price. Zeus, former CEO and Ex-Lord of the Universe, struggles with identity issues after his retirement. The bright spot in his life is babysitting his toddler granddaughter, but his marriage with Hera is foundering and he longs for someone to confide in. Hera's new campaign, a mortal lifestyle series of books and seminars called Marvelous Marriage, is a huge success. The face of this project, small-g goddess Candy Smith, has become a media celebrity. Hera, Goddess of Marriage, revels in the market share she's stealing from the "adult" industries owned by her rival, Aphrodite. But Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, is ready to fight back! Employing a photo-shopped tabloid cover photo and a box of enchanted chocolates, she disrupts the personal life of Candy Smith and goads Hera into executing her own sabotage plan. The lives of these Olympians collide when Veronica succeeds in deposing Ares, and pays for deploying a large dose The Power with blindness, anguish and, possibly, death. But how can an immortal die? The answer lies in an old family secret, daringly unearthed by Zeus in the eleventh hour.
