Book excerpt: When God delivered his message to an Aramaic nomad named Aram, the key to understanding the origin of mankind was revealed in ancient times. The few elected to see God’s message grouped in the Constantine Order, which pledges in eternity to preserve the universal knowledge of the secrets. The privileged knowledge of the mysteries, in the centuries, were passed to the Roman Emperors and to some charismatic Knights across Europe, until Leonardo da Vinci mastered the comprehensive decoding of the universal truth. In his secret voyage financed by the Knight Order in the Middle East, he revealed the perfect geometrical codes hidden in the deep core of the Egyptian pyramids and the prohibited and forbidden Muslim controlled grounds of King Solomon Temple ruins in Jerusalem. deCODE is a historical thriller that expands the known history of hermetism to describe the impact of a powerful ancient international military order on world history. The book tells an epic tale that crosses continents and spans thousands of years. But at its heart, it’s a story of heroic adventure and spiritual awakening that has shaped human mankind from its birth by the engineers' thousands of years ago.

Book excerpt: Human consciousness is one of the most fascinating mysteries sheltered by the brain, evidencing that what happens between our ears is more important than what happens outside our skull. In addition, how do we know whether someone other than ourselves is conscious? This book offers a compelling bioethical analysis of one of the most intriguing topics of neuroscience: states of consciousness. It brings together the thought-provoking contributions of international experts concerning the role of bioethics in fostering dialogue between different, but related, fields of study concerning human consciousness and its altered states, including ethics of neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and anthropology, theology, clinical ethics, law and social studies.

Book excerpt: Why is God's beauty often absent from our theology? Rarely do theologians take up the theme of God's beauty—even more rarely do they consider how God's beauty should shape the task of theology itself. But the psalmist says that the heart of the believer's desire is to behold the beauty of the Lord. In The Beauty of the Lord, Jonathan King restores aesthetics as not merely a valid lens for theological reflection, but an essential one. Jesus, our incarnate Redeemer, displays the Triune God's beauty in his actions and person, from creation to final consummation. How can and should theology better reflect this unveiled beauty? The Beauty of the Lord is a renewal of a truly aesthetic theology and a properly theological aesthetics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most widely accepted ways of describing an addiction is as a disease, but do we realize what we are saying when we describe it that way? Our current language and approach to addiction is not only lacking in depth but is keeping us blind to an amazing way that God is working in each and every one of us. What if our addictions are not broken parts of us that we have to get rid of, but invitations from God to new depth and transformation? When we are able to hold this experience gently and look at it anew, it reveals a new depth to how we can understand ourselves, our suffering, and God. For too long we have been trying to treat addiction like a disease, and tear it out by the root, but we are invited to something more in our humanity; something that we will never find if we continue to wish away our suffering. Author David Tremaine explores the possibilities of understanding addiction not as a diseased part of our humanity, but as a blessed part of our spiritual journey, and sheds new light on this deeply engrained experience of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing deliberately in a nontechnical style so as to make his book accessible to readers who are not professional philosophers, Michael Gelven here offers an extended meditative essay on the nature and meaning of truth. He approaches this subject directly, rather than through a critique of what others have said about it, and takes off from the realization that truth has a wider meaning than that which can be found in the analysis of true sentences, which is the focus of traditional epistemology. Pursuing philosophical inquiry as a voyage of discovery, the book begins with ordinary questions about the worth and meaning of truth. A fundamental distinction is drawn between the "true" (as in a true proposition) and "truth" as essence, that which we confront as the ultimate terminus of our questioning--for example, between the true definition of mother as a female parent and truth as what we understand being a mother to mean, as one who sacrifices her own interests and safety for her child. The analysis then proceeds to examine the four ways in which we confront truth--through affirmation, acceptance, acknowledgment, and submission--and the existential modes of experience in which these confrontations are embodied: pleasure, fate, guilt, and beauty. Each of these four confrontations has consequences for how we understand the world in which we dwell. Thus the book concludes with interpretation of the world as our home, our history, our tribunal, and ultimately that which lures or beckons us to confront ourselves. Plato, Kant, and Heidegger are the primary sources of philosophical inspiration for Gelven, but he eschews textual exegesis and academic debate in favor of engaging the reader as co-explorer in the discovery of what it means for each of us to be in truth.

Book excerpt: A new 2023 Translation with Afterword of Hegel's Monumental work Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion (1821-1831) Over a ten-year span, G.W.F. Hegel's "Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion" probed the relationship between philosophy and religious thought. Hegel asserts that religion and philosophy both aim to express the Absolute, though religion does so in a pictorial and representational manner, while philosophy does so conceptually. Analyzing various world religions, Hegel underscores Christianity's centrality, viewing it as the highest religious expression of Spirit's self-revelation. The lectures, rich in insights and interpretations, bridge the gap between religious faith and speculative thought.
