Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Babylonian Epic of Creation: Restored From the Recently Recovered Tablets of Assur IN the preparation of this edition of the Babylonian Epic of Creation I have consulted the original tablets in the British Museum upon all doubtful passages. For the opportunity of studying these texts I am grateful to the Keeper of the Department of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities, . Sir ernest budge, d.litt., who has never failed to assist my work upon Sumerian and Babylonian Religion. I am also indebted to the late L. W. King, litt.d., for collating passages in the earlier stages of my studies upon. The tablets. The rev. S. A. B. Mercer, ph.d., Dean of Bexley Hall, Gambier, assisted me materially by copying out the transcription of a large part of the text and by verifying many references. For his labours in thus relieving me I am grateful. In the final stages of my work I came upon two unpublished tablets, K. 9188 and Rm. 275, in the British Museum, which relate to the myth of the Death and Resurrection of Bel. Sir ernest budge kindly permitted me to copy and publish these also. Mr. C. J. Gadd, m.a Assistant in the Assyrian Department, assisted me much by collations of doubtful passages. Book Synopsis Esther in Diaspora by : Tsaurayi Kudakwashe Mapfeka
Download or read book Esther in Diaspora written by Tsaurayi Kudakwashe Mapfeka and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-06-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Esther in Diaspora, Tsaurayi Kudakwashe Mapfeka presents a new approach to the book of Esther in the Hebrew Bible. He argues that, whereas previous interpretations have emphasised an association with the Jewish festival of Purim, a theory-nuanced concept of diaspora offers the key for reading Esther. Alongside the relatively new approach of Diaspora Studies, the author makes use of the more traditional analogical reasoning, seeing parallels between the community behind Esther and the Zimbabwean diaspora community in the United Kingdom, of which he is a member. The two-fold methodological application results in an innovative and stimulating reading of the book. Overall, the book reflects a deep awareness not only of issues surrounding Esther but of the broader fields of the study of the Bible and of the ancient Near East.

Download or read book Of Wings and Wheels written by Alice Wood and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-11-03 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the physical form and cultic function of the biblical cherubim. Previous studies of the cherubim have placed too great an emphasis on archaeological and etymological data. This monograph presents a new synthetic study, which prioritises the evidence supplied by the biblical texts. Biblical exegesis, using literary and historical-critical methods, forms the large part of the investigation (Part I). The findings arising from the exegetical discussion provide the basis upon which comparison with etymological and archaeological data is made (Parts II and III). The results suggest that traditions envisaging the cherubim as tutelary winged quadrupeds, with one head and one set of wings, were supplanted by traditions that conceived of them as more enigmatic, obeisant beings. In the portrayal of the cherubim in Ezekiel and Chronicles, we can detect signs of a conceptual shift that prefigures the description of the cherubim in post-biblical texts, such as The Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice and the Enochic texts.
Download or read book Of Heaven and Earth written by Neil Freer and published by Book Tree. This book was released on 1996 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents information on Sitchins theories about the origins of mankind and the intervention of intelligence from beyond the Earth. He and the other contributors offer a scholarly approach to the ancient astronaut theory. Contains the complete transcript of the first Sitchin Studies Day, held in Denver, Colorado on Oct. 6, 1996. Following Sitchins detailed keynote address are six other prominent speakers whose work he has influenced. They include philosopher Neil Freer, UFO expert J. Antonio Huneeus, clergyman Father Charles Moore, author V. Susan Ferguson, and two university professors, Madeleine Briskin and Marlene Evans. They agree that certain myths were actual events instead of figments of imaginations. Sitchins work comprises the early part of a new paradigmone that is already beginning to shake the very foundations of religion, archaeology and our society in general.

Book Synopsis Christianity as the Moral Order of Integration by : Herman C. Waetjen
Download or read book Christianity as the Moral Order of Integration written by Herman C. Waetjen and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an integration of the Old and New Testaments, and it is intended to demonstrate that there should be only one Testament. Together they form the Bible of the Jewish people. They unfold the long journey that Abram and Sarai were summoned by God to initiate. As migrants without a country and without an ethnic identity, they personified the Truth of God by incarnating “the Lord God’s” being of presence and transcendent possibility. Incorporated into an eternal covenant as Abraham and Sarah, they established the birthright of God’s elect people as the embodiment of the integration of universality and ethnicity. The journey continued through their descendants, vacillating between the union of universality and ethnicity and mere ethnicity, and, in the course of Israel’s history, it separated the prophets from the priests. The journey traverses the Yahwist Strand of the Pentateuch, the four prophetic divisions of the Book of Isaiah, Book 1 of I Enoch, the Apocalypse of Daniel, John the Baptist, and it climaxes in the ontological termination of the moral order of separation through the death of Jesus of Nazareth and the inauguration of a New Creation and its New Humanity through his resurrection from the dead. The journey is concluded by Paul the Apostle who, as an ethnically determined Pharisee, is called by God to proclaim the moral order of integration as a gift to the nations of the Gentiles.
