Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hong Kong in 1970 was the fastest expanding city in the world, a city that lived on three levels - the expatriates, nearly always British who lived in almost complete isolation; the vast mass of Chinese residents struggling to get by and improve their lot; and finally the criminal and corrupt underside which not only fought among itself but also affected the life of everyone else in the Crown Colony through fear and corruption. Fighting to hold this in check - and by and large succeeding - were the Hong Kong police force. At the officer level, many were British. Into this heady and dangerous mix steps a young Merseyside policeman, Chris Emmett. His account of those times brings vividly to life the crime, prostitution, drugs, triad street gangs and corruption that was an important part of the fabric of Hong Kong of those days.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The incredible true story of a rock legend. . . Lemmy’s name was synonymous with notorious excess: his blood would have killed another human being. This is the story of the heaviest drinking, oversexed speed freak in the music business. Updated after Lemmy’s untimely death in 2016, White Line Fever offers a sometimes hilarious, often outrageous, highly entertaining ride with the frontman of (what was) the loudest rock band in history. Motörhead stand firm as conquerors of the rock world, their history spanned an incredible forty years and while the Motörhead line-up saw many changes, Lemmy was always the soul of the machine. In the words of drummer Mikkey Dee, ‘Lemmy was Motörhead.’ From playing with local bands in Wales, his early career with the Rocking Vicars, backstage touring with Hendrix, and his time with Hawkwind to creating speed metal and forming the legendary band Motörhead, this is the truly epic finale, and tribute, to Lemmy from those who loved him best.

Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times Bestseller! The extraordinary true story and basis for the Academy Award winning film BlacKkKlansman, written and directed by Spike Lee, produced by Jordan Peele, and starring John David Washington and Adam Driver. When detective Ron Stallworth, the first black detective in the history of the Colorado Springs Police Department, comes across a classified ad in the local paper asking for all those interested in joining the Ku Klux Klan to contact a P.O. box, Detective Stallworth does his job and responds with interest, using his real name while posing as a white man. He figures he’ll receive a few brochures in the mail, maybe even a magazine, and learn more about a growing terrorist threat in his community. A few weeks later the office phone rings, and the caller asks Ron a question he thought he’d never have to answer, “Would you like to join our cause?” This is 1978, and the KKK is on the rise in the United States. Its Grand Wizard, David Duke, has made a name for himself, appearing on talk shows, and major magazine interviews preaching a “kinder” Klan that wants nothing more than to preserve a heritage, and to restore a nation to its former glory. Ron answers the caller’s question that night with a yes, launching what is surely one of the most audacious, and incredible undercover investigations in history. Ron recruits his partner Chuck to play the "white" Ron Stallworth, while Stallworth himself conducts all subsequent phone conversations. During the months-long investigation, Stallworth sabotages cross burnings, exposes white supremacists in the military, and even befriends David Duke himself. Black Klansman is an amazing true story that reads like a crime thriller, and a searing portrait of a divided America and the extraordinary heroes who dare to fight back.

Book excerpt: THE SEARCH...THE CAPTURE...AND THE TRIAL OF HISTORY’S BLOODIEST MURDERER, ADOLF EICHMANN — BY THE MAN WHO TRACKED HIM DOWN Tuviah Friedman-The Hunter of Adolf Eichmann Here is the extraordinary story of the famous hunter who spent fifteen years searching for Adolf Eichmann, one of the most ruthless criminals the world has known. When the first Soviet troops entered Poland, young Tuviah Friedman, who had lost most of his family and seen many of his friends beaten to death, knew his chance to revenge himself on the Nazis was at hand. After his escape from a concentration camp, Friedman joined Polish security force charged with rounding up former commandants of slave labor and ghettos, and became a precocious and highly successful Nazi hunter. Had he not encountered anti-Semitic prejudices among the Poles, he might have remained in Poland and entered the new government that was then being formed. Instead, he proceeded to Vienna where he began his fifteen years search for Eichmann—a search whose final chapter began to unfold in October, 1959. The rest is history. Tuviah Friedman’s story is the authentic account of the search for Adolf Eichmann. Friedman has documents, never known to exist, and has witnessed and participated in the crucial events of this story. “An enthralling detective story and a self-portrayal of one man’s terrifying obsession.”—Life Magazine “Eccentric? Fanatic? Dedicated Man? He is all three but his book is a fascinating one...”—The New York Times

Book excerpt: This book contends that one of the primary motivations of British colonialism in southern Africa at the end of the 19th century was to create a cheap, readily available supply of African labour through conquest, dispossession, taxation and the creation of native reserves or locations, doing everything in its power to reduce southern Africa's indigenous population to wage earners dependent on Europeans for their survival. In doing so, they laid the foundation for apartheid in the 20th century.

Book excerpt: In this fascinating book, Nigel Allsopp lifts the lid on the world of police dogs, examining the vital roles they play both in Australia and around the world. Despite the numerous high-tech devices now available to law-enforcement officials, `K9's - as they're known in the trade - remain an indispensable part of police work in a range of fields, notably terrorism and border protection. K9s may sometimes be sent into difficult and dangerous situations, but this is never done without care and concern, for at the heart of their role is the intimate and symbiotic relationship between dog and handler. K9 Cops explores the history, training and current use of police dogs, as well as considering what future dogs have in modern law enforcement. It also includes an A-Z of police canine units in 47 countries. For all police and military personnel, K9 Cops is an informative, must-read book. For the rest of us, it is an entertaining and heart-warming account that dog lovers the world over will enjoy.
