Book excerpt: How scientists through the ages have conducted thought experiments using imaginary entities—demons—to test the laws of nature and push the frontiers of what is possible Science may be known for banishing the demons of superstition from the modern world. Yet just as the demon-haunted world was being exorcized by the enlightening power of reason, a new kind of demon mischievously materialized in the scientific imagination itself. Scientists began to employ hypothetical beings to perform certain roles in thought experiments—experiments that can only be done in the imagination—and these impish assistants helped scientists achieve major breakthroughs that pushed forward the frontiers of science and technology. Spanning four centuries of discovery—from René Descartes, whose demon could hijack sensorial reality, to James Clerk Maxwell, whose molecular-sized demon deftly broke the second law of thermodynamics, to Darwin, Einstein, Feynman, and beyond—Jimena Canales tells a shadow history of science and the demons that bedevil it. She reveals how the greatest scientific thinkers used demons to explore problems, test the limits of what is possible, and better understand nature. Their imaginary familiars helped unlock the secrets of entropy, heredity, relativity, quantum mechanics, and other scientific wonders—and continue to inspire breakthroughs in the realms of computer science, artificial intelligence, and economics today. The world may no longer be haunted as it once was, but the demons of the scientific imagination are alive and well, continuing to play a vital role in scientists' efforts to explore the unknown and make the impossible real.

Some of his sermons are also recorded. He died very young in exile in 1931 from tuberculosis. Book excerpt: While lecturing on spiritual warfare at a Bible school in Japan some years ago, I had an encounter with a student who said she was not a born-again Christian and had never been to church--she was a Buddhist. During our conversation, she told me she had read so many books on Buddhism but had never read the Bible or read any book about God. In my reasoning with her, I asked her how was she to know anything about God whom she has not read about? If she wanted to know if God is better than Buddha, she would need to read the Bible to know who God is. She agreed with me, and I got her a Bible, which she promised to start reading. I believe this encounter and many others are the reasons the Holy Spirit impressed it upon me to put together this deliverance workbook in order to help create an awareness and to enlighten the upcoming generation on this very important subject matter of deliverance that many seem to lack knowledge about. This book explains all the major aspects of deliverance and is strongly recommended to all churches, ministries, ministers of God, prayer band/intercessory groups, prayer ministries, Bible schools, seminaries, and all other Christian organizations worldwide. The book addresses various topics such as "What is deliverance?", Satanic kingdoms, "Can a Christian have demons?", Satanic initiations, and much more. Rejecting the teachings on deliverance is sheer ignorance. It is time to rise up and build a militant army, to join hands with Jesus Christ in destroying the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).

In Unmasking the Devil, John Ramirez shares an insider view of how satan operates so you can avoid his traps and learn how to: discern between the voice of God that directs to victory and satans voice that leads to destruction. close the demonic doors satan uses to enter your life: entertainment, unhealthy relationships, greed, and false religion. activate the spiritual weapons of prayer, intercession, and Scripture to render hell powerless over your life. recognize how the spirits of Jezebel and Delilah attempt to infiltrate the church, create disunity, and render Gods people powerless. No army goes into battle without first knowing the tactics of their enemy. Receive behind-the-scene glimpses of satans strategies and equip yourself to live victoriously over the powers of darkness! Book excerpt: God's Demon is a "fascinating"* dark fantasy novel of a fallen warrior seeking atonement from award-winning author and renowned artist Wayne Barlowe. Lucifer's War, which damned legions of angels to Hell, is an ancient and bitter memory shrouded in the smoke and ash of the Inferno. The Fallen, those banished demons who escaped the full wrath of Heaven, have established a limitless and oppressive kingdom within the fiery confines of Hell. Lucifer has not been seen since the Fall and the mantle of rulership has been passed to the horrific Prince Beelzebub, the Lord of the Flies. The Demons Major, Heaven's former warriors, have become the ruling class. They are the equivalent to landed lords, each owing allegiance to the de facto ruler of Hell. They reign over their fiefdoms, tormenting the damned souls and adding to their wealth. One Demon Major, however, has not forgotten his former life in Heaven. The powerful Lord Sargatanas is restless. For millennia Sargatanas has ruled dutifully but unenthusiastically, building his city, Adamantinarx, into the model of an Infernal metropolis. But he has never forgotten what he lost in the Fall—proximity to God. He is sickened by what he has become. Now, with a small event—a confrontation with one of the damned souls—he makes a decision that will reverberate through every being in Hell. Sargatanas decides to attempt the impossible, to rebel, to endeavor to go Home and bring with him anyone who chooses to follow . . . be they demon or soul. He will stake everything on this chance for redemption. *Guillermo del Toro, Academy Award-Winning Director of The Shape of Water At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html “Inasmuch as you don't want to be stubborn, sail to Valaam, and if you don't want to be harsh, go to Sarov. If you want to be experienced, go to Optina,” Russian people used to say in the old days. And not without reason. Optina Desert raised in its monastery walls a whole galaxy of elders who were distinguished by the most valuable spiritual gift - the gift of reasoning. Not only ordinary people came to them for advice, but also the intelligentsia - great Russian writers and public figures: F.M. Dostoevsky, N.V. Gogol, L.N. Tolstoy, K.N. Leontiev, V.S. Soloviev. The elders, wise in spiritual experience, opened the will of God to those who were asking, consoled in difficult life trials, diverted them from sinful life and turned to repentance - sometimes strictly, and sometimes with a joke-joke. The advice and instructions of the elders, preserved in letters or spoken in conversations and recorded by eyewitnesses, are relevant at all times, and especially in ours, meager spiritual mentors. The teachings collected in this book are only a small part of the richest Optina treasury. Great and incomparably beautiful is the river of God - Holy Optina! This river flows from the sources of temporary life in the sea of eternally joyful endless life in the kingdom of the inexorable Light, and it bears on itself the boats and its desert inhabitants, and many other mournful, tortured, suffering souls who have found the truth of life at the feet of the great Optina elders. What miracles, what signs of the mercy of God, as well as his righteous anger, are not concealed in the transparent deep life-giving waters of this majestic, beautiful, mysteriously wonderful river! How many times from its picturesque bank, covered with a tent of lush green pines and firs, wrapped in the coolness of curly oaks, lace birches, aspens and maples of the reserved monastery forest, my seine descended into its bottomless depths, as clear as rock crystal, and -not in vain ... Oh, blessed Optina! S. A. Nilus If you do any mercy to anyone, you will be pardoned for that. If you suffer with a suffering person (it is not great, it seems, this is) - you are numbered as martyrs. If you forgive the offender, for this all your sins will be forgiven. Advice and guidance from Moses of Optina

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays, inspired by the author's experience teaching ethics to Marine and Navy chaplains during the Iraq War, examines the moral and psychological dilemmas posed by war. The first section deals directly with Dr Peter A. French's teaching experience and the specific challenges posed by teaching applied and theoretical ethics to men and women wrestling with the immediate and personal moral conflicts occasioned by the dissonance of their duties as military officers with their religious convictions. The following chapters grew out of philosophical discussions with these chaplains regarding specific ethical issues surrounding the Iraq War, including the nature of moral evil, forgiveness, mercy, retributive punishment, honour, torture, responsibility and just war theory. This book represents a unique viewpoint on the philosophical problems of war, illuminating the devastating toll combat experiences take on both an individual's sense of identity and a society's professed moral code.
