Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Art of Exposition Exposition is the art of Opening up the scriptures, laying them out, reproducing their matter and their spirit in forms vitalized by the personality of the expositor. The expository preacher Shows how the portraits, the dramas, the theology, the ethics of the Hebrews are for ever profitable for instruction, because human nature in its weakness and its strength, its hopes and its fears, its sorrows and its joys, its help lessness when left to itself and its consequent dependence on God, its craving for communion with God and the realized possibility of such communion, is unchangeable. He compares scripture with scripture, and most of all he throws back on the scriptures of the Old Testament the searchlight of the New. Book excerpt: Trieste Publishing has a massive catalogue of classic book titles. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Readers interested in bulk purchases are invited to contact us directly to enquire about our tailored bulk rates.

As an example of this procedure let us assume that the subject assigned for class consideration is Poetry. If we assume further that the topic has been announced in advance of the class discussion, each student may be expected to join in the debate. The thrifty undergraduate will jot down for future reference hints acquired during the recitation. His page may contain something like the following list of notes transcribed from a student's notebook. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Like Aladdin's palace it has risen almost in a night. For a day in its flags and banners and brilliant colors, it flutters in the sunlight like a gorgeous butterfly; and tomorrow it will be gone. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Exposition Illustration in Teaching The test of the expositor is: does he produce on the mind of the pupil the impression he desires to pro duce? Literary style is sometimes tested by the clear ness with which it conveys the author's meaning. But sometimes the author may not desire that his mean ing Should be understood. He may want his words to convey one meaning to one set of readers and another to another. From this point of view the test is: does he convey the meaning to each that he intended to convey? Style is not so much a means of making an other know what we think, as it is a means of producing a certain effect upon the mind of another. So in the case of the expositor, whether he be honest or dishonest, the result of successful exposition must be that there now exists in the mind of the hearer or reader a com bination of mental elements that previously existed in the mind of the expositor. There may be many other ways in which the elements could be combined, and these possible combinations may all have been formed at one time or other in the mind of the expositor, but if he has succeeded in his present work, only one of these combinations is able to establish itself in the mind of the person he is dealing with. Exposition, therefore, comes to be, in the ultimate resort, the manipulation of the ideas of another. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Specimens of Exposition and Agrument Any book that helps a student to write good English need not apologize for its publication. The present volume, while disclaiming any attempt on the part of its editors to introduce new theories in a subject so old as Composition, has in its make-up certain practical features which should prove helpful to those studying Exposition and Argument. These are of course the practical forms of discourse, in which the student must become proficient whether he practice the other forms or not. The selections are designedly varied in length, to admit of different modes of treatment. And it is believed that the interest of the articles is sufficiently diversified to make sure of an appeal to every class of readers. It will be noted that many articles are the work of practical men of affairs rather than of men of letters. This should be in the nature of encouragement to those who do not expect to make letters their profession. Indeed, many of the selections admit of imitation both as to form and style. One or two features of the book are, as far as the editors know, new to a work of this kind. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introductory Course in Exposition Exposition is admitted to be the most generally used form of discourse, and further, to be that form of discourse whose successful practice requires no special aptitude, as do description and narration. Moreover, the writing of exposition has been found to be largely conducive to the development of keen observation, deliberation, sound critical judgment, and clear and concise expression. For these reasons it has an assured place in every high school or college composition course. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
