Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four hundred seventy years ago the Anabaptist movement was launched with the inauguration of believer's baptism and the formation of the first congregation of the Swiss Brethren in Zurich, Switzerland. This standard introduction to the history of Anabaptism by noted church historian William R. Estep offers a vivid chronicle of the rise and spread of teachings and heritage of this important stream in Christianity. This third edition of The Anabaptist Story has been substantially revised and enlarged to take into account the numerous Anabaptist sources that have come to light in the last half-century as well as the significant number of monographs and other scholarly works on Anabaptist themes that have recently appeared. Estep challenges a number of assumptions held by contemporary historians and offers fresh insights into the Anabaptist movement.

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of the Baptists written by William H. Brackney and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-04-13 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With 110 million members worldwide, Baptists are surpassed only by Roman Catholic and Orthodox groups as the largest segment of Christians. The term 'Baptist' has its origins with the Anabaptists, the denomination historically linked to the English Separatist movement of the 16th century. Although Baptist churches are located throughout the world, the largest group of Baptists lives in the Southern United States, and the Baptist faith has historically exerted a powerful influence in that region of the country. The second edition of the Historical Dictionary of the Baptists expands upon the first edition with an updated chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and hundreds of cross-referenced dictionary entries on important events, doctrines, and the church founders, leaders, and other prominent figures who have made notable contributions. This volume commemorates the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Baptist movement in 1609.

Book Synopsis Pentecostal Aspects of Early Sixteenth-century Anabaptism by : Charles Hannon Byrd
Download or read book Pentecostal Aspects of Early Sixteenth-century Anabaptism written by Charles Hannon Byrd and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early-sixteenth-century radical Anabaptism emanated in Swiss protest during Huldrych Zwingli’s protest against the Roman Catholic Church. Much like Luther, Zwingli founded his reform effort on the premise that the Bible was the sole arbiter of the Christian faith, sola scriptura, and the sufficiency of the shed blood of Christ for eternal salvation, sola fide. Based on these two principles, both Zwingli and Luther adopted the doctrine of the priesthood of the believer, which recognized every believer’s Spirit-empowered ability to read and interpret the Bible. Radical adherents to Zwingli first rejected the idea of infant baptism, which Zwingli continued to practice. This led to the radical practice of the rebaptism of adults, which was subsequently labeled as Anabaptism. These Anabaptists also interpreted 1 Corinthians 12–14, Paul’s description of the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as the biblical format for conducting proper church. This direction led Zwingli and the city of Zurich to outlaw the Anabaptists and their practices, which brought severe persecution and martyrdom.

Book Synopsis T&T Clark Handbook of Anabaptism by : Brian C. Brewer
Download or read book T&T Clark Handbook of Anabaptism written by Brian C. Brewer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By utilizing the contributions of a variety of scholars – theologians, historians, and biblical scholars – this book makes the complex and sometimes disparate Anabaptist movement more easily accessible. It does this by outlining Anabaptism's early history during the Reformation of the sixteenth century, its varied and distinctive theological convictions, and its ongoing challenges to and influence on contemporary Christianity. T&T Clark Handbook of Anabaptism comprises four sections: 1) Origins, 2) Doctrine, 3) Influences on Anabaptism, and 4) Contemporary Anabaptism and Relationship to Others. The volume concludes with a chapter on how contemporary Anabaptists interact with the wider Church in all its variety. While some of the authorities within the volume will disagree even with one another regarding Anabaptist origins, emphases on doctrine, and influence in the contemporary world, such differences represent the diversity that constitutes the history of this movement.
Book Synopsis From the Coffin to the Cross by : Calvin McDonald
Download or read book From the Coffin to the Cross written by Calvin McDonald and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-12-18 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a prophetic vision, God showed me the evangelical churches of North America channeling all their spiritual energy into the works of their own hands, enshrining these works as a divine manifestation of God while living in rebellion to His word of truth. We have forsaken the mandate of the Azusa Street Revival and have been shutting the door more and more to all possibilities for any future revivals and awakenings in North America. If the church does not wake up from its spiritual slumber, all will soon be lost. The purpose of this book is to reveal to the body of Christ in North America and the rest of the world where we have gone wrong and how to turn back to God in much-needed repentance. It is my prayer that through this book, a new spirit of righteousness will be awakened in true believers everywhere and that they would be energized into a new mindset of desiring something authentic from Gods Holy Spirit, no longer clinging to that which is religious and familiar. Lord let the evangelical churches of North America be set free from the entanglements of their own cultural and social bondages and allow the true love of Jesus Christ to reign in their hearts, churches, and communities. Let the real spirit of the Christ be their guide. Amen. http://youtube.com/watch?v=C3u8KZtTYmg
