Book Synopsis Where God Came Down by : Joel P. Kramer
Download or read book Where God Came Down written by Joel P. Kramer and published by Expedition Bible. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In stark contrast to the biblical skepticism of our modern age, Where God Came Down emphasizes agreementbetween the Bible and archaeology. Using Scripture as his primary ancient text and most crucial interpretive tool, author Joel Kramer examines the archaeological record for ten locations recorded in the Bible. What is the evidence that supports these sites as the actual biblical places?-is a question that Kramer seeks toanswer by analyzing five Old Testament sites and five New Testament sites.Does it matter to know if these sites are authentic?-is another critical question raised. Kramer responds witha resounding, Yes! It matters because the Bible is not a made-up account of antiquity, as many today claim.Instead, the Bible is a record of real events and actual places that can be traced through the course of centuries.Peeling back layers of dirt and time, Kramer expertly lays out the archaeological evidence for his chosen biblicalsites. But more than that, he carefully reveals the profound spiritual significance that ordinary, unimportantplaces became the setting where redemption's story played out on earth-the places Where God Came Down.

Book Synopsis Why Is There Suffering? by : Bethany N. Sollereder
Download or read book Why Is There Suffering? written by Bethany N. Sollereder and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your journey begins. The road before you is smooth and straight. You walk for some time, recalling your experiences that call into question the deep realities of life. Up ahead, you can see the road branching in three directions. . . In Why Is There Suffering? you, reader, control the route you take through its "choose-your-own-path" chapters, asking questions and exploring different theological possibilities on the big topics of: God's existence God's nature The nature of suffering Evil Pain Final destiny Taking an intentionally light-hearted approach to a heavy topic this book presents an illustrative introduction to the problem of suffering and the most commonly offered responses to it. Along the road, you'll face multiple possibilities regarding suffering and its theological explanations, and you'll make choices about which one you find most plausible, skipping to that section of the book. Each decision you make leads to further complexities and new choices that reveal how theological beliefs lead to certain conclusions. This book does not offer final answers. Instead, it introduces the "theological" possibilities—both Christian and non-Christian—that you can explore and wrestle with to make informed decisions about your beliefs and clearly see the road you've taken to reach such beliefs. You are, of course, in control of the paths you take through these pages. You decide which explanations work. You can always go back and see what would change if you'd taken a different path. And, who knows. . .you may find that certain pathways resonate with your experiences in ways you didn't expect.

Book Synopsis Digging Up the Bible by : MARGREET L. STEINER
Download or read book Digging Up the Bible written by MARGREET L. STEINER and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the account of a remarkable excavation. It started with a modest dig on an unremarkable tell in Jordan. The name of the tell does not occur in the Bible, and no ancient town of any importance was to be expected under the rubble. The excavator Henk Franken had not yet made a name for himself within the archaeological community.00And yet, from 1960 onwards history was being (re)written at Tell Deir Alla. To discover the secrets of the tell, the expedition team defied cold, rain and stormy winds for months on end, sleeping in rattling tents and working long days on the tell and in the camp. And with success! A meticulous yet efficient excavation method was introduced, the already tenuous relationship between Bible and archaeology was further exacerbated, and the study of excavated pottery was given a scientific basis. The name Deir Alla became an international benchmark for modern scientific research, for prompt publication of the remarkable finds and for independent interpretation of the excavation results.00The story of the excavations at Tell Deir Alla in the 1960s have never been told in any detail, and the excavation results have mostly been published in scholarly books and journals which are difficult to access. This book hopes to remedy that. It recounts the story of the first ten years of the project, from 1959 when funding for the project was sought, until 1969 when the first report was published. The first section describes the organization of the project before the expedition team went out into the field. The second part takes the reader to the actual field work and describes the occupation history of the tell. The story is illustrated by numerous photographs and plans, many of which are being published for the first time.

Download or read book Job written by Samuel Eugene Balentine and published by Smyth & Helwys Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Job is considered by many to be the crown jewel of biblical literature in its claim to speak about God. The word that defines the challenge for every reader of the book is ?struggle.? The struggle results from the fact that whatever Job's truth may be, he was neither the first nor the last to try to articulate it. In the midst of so many words in this world about God from writers within and outside the scriptural witness, this book offers a truly astonishing declaration about what it means to live in a world where order breaks down and chaos runs amok, where the innocent suffer and the wicked thrive, where cries for help go unanswered. This new commentary by biblical scholar Samuel Balentine leads readers on an in-depth and far-reaching look at the nature of the book of Jo & and the various attempts by the many who have sought to further explore Job's essential struggle.
