Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through innovative and expansive research, Oil Revolution analyzes the tensions faced and networks created by anti-colonial oil elites during the age of decolonization following World War II. This new community of elites stretched across Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Algeria, and Libya. First through their western educations and then in the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, these elites transformed the global oil industry. Their transnational work began in the early 1950s and culminated in the 1973–4 energy crisis and in the 1974 declaration of a New International Economic Order in the United Nations. Christopher R. W. Dietrich examines how these elites brokered and balanced their ambitions via access to oil, the most important natural resource of the modern era.

Book excerpt: Using newly-uncovered private papers, as well as public and private archives in three countries, this book tells the definitive history of the first discovery of oil in Iran - the first discovery of oil in the Middle East. Exploring the formal and informal dealings of politicians, investors, civil servants and intermediaries Leonardo Davoudi charts the development of Persian petroleum from uncertain beginnings to becoming one of Britain's largest oil companies with the British government as its principal shareholder. Assessing the relationship between economic and political forces within the British empire and the relationship of foreign economic forces and domestic political forces in Persia, the book also explores the role of intermediation, informal empire, the Anglo-Russian rivalry over Persia, British naval developments and Persian political developments.

Book Synopsis Enabling the Iranian Gas Export Options by : Maximilian Kuhn
Download or read book Enabling the Iranian Gas Export Options written by Maximilian Kuhn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-17 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximilian Kuhn investigates one of the most pressing, yet neglected subjects in the field of global energy politics: the integration of the Iranian gas market. Possessing the world’s second-largest proven natural gas reserves, Iran is a hypothetical energy giant-in-waiting. Yet over three decades of internal divisions, coupled with crippling international sanctions, have left Iran unable to capitalize on its vast energy potential. Increasing global demand for natural gas and a government in constant need of finding new sources of revenue to meet the needs of a fast-growing population should lead Iran to eventually become a large-scale gas exporter. How this could take place and what the implications for global gas markets would be are the central research questions tackled by this study. The study allows a look beyond international politics, Iranian political decision-making, investment laws, and pipeline games.

It will prove to be a very useful source for research on and analysis of the jurisprudence of the World Court. "I often find it important to be able to see at a glance what a case was about, what the Court decided, and who were the personalities involved in every phase of a case, as judges and as agents and counsel. This book aims to meet that requirement. There is also a practical side to this, in light of the Court's wish, in Practice Directions VII and VIII, to introduce different `cooling off periods' for different personalities connected with the Court's judicial work. [...] For the practitioner and for the student the most important parts of this book are the indexes to the Statute and the Rules of Court and the lists of treaties and other legal instruments cited." - From the Introduction by Shabtai Rosenne
