Book excerpt: I grew up in the forties and fifties, when the news was local. We didn’t know much about what was going on outside our town for two or three days. There was no multimedia, and today’s front-page news was on page 20 the next day. But when a man beat his wife or if the wife beat her husband, it was the talk of the town; everybody knew it. It has always been considered a disgrace for a man to beat a woman. The shame abusing your wife or girlfriend is something that no one agrees with. This is a story about me and the things that suffered through for much of my adult life. The very first time I hit a woman, I knew that it was wrong, and the guilt started to consume me right away. I found myself doing it again. I was slow to realize that I had started to decline mentally because I could not shake the enmity feeling. My life would go on a fifty-year cycle of shame, guilt, fear, and loneliness. I crawled into my shell and let no one know the pain that I felt. There are a lot of people who feel the same way that I do, but they don’t bother to reveal themselves. Women are just as ashamed as men are because most of the time, they feel that it is their fault they let us off the hook. My wife is my rock. She saved me.

Book excerpt: Deliverance from the Vicious Cycle of Abuse is a personal guide down the path of self-awareness and reflection. This book will help you understand that you hold the power and control over your own life; therefore, you determine how others treat you in most case even in situations of forced violations; how you respond determines how you overcome. The way you process how others treat you is ultimately a reflection of how you see yourself and the value that you hold for yourself. This book opens your awareness to various forms of abuse that we don't hear much about such as verbal, emotional, mental, spiritual, and financial in addition to physical and sexual misconduct. The one eye-opener moment anyone reading this book will realize is that at some point in life, we have all participated in inflicting abuse upon someone else or we have endured abuse at the discretion of others; in some cases, we have been on both sides. The good news is no matter where you find yourself, there is a plan for you to face that darkness and move beyond it by making course corrections that will allow you to find your authentic self in order to live your best life. You are not a victim. It's time to regain your power by finding your voice!

Women who have experienced domestic violence feel shattered. Because of the trauma they've been through, a bond with their abuser has formed that keeps them tied together long after they've physically left. Transcending Abuse & Betrayal is an inspirational book that celebrates the triumph of dignity, courage and self-empowerment over the brutality and denigration of abuse and betrayal. The book depicts the life experiences of four women, Stacy, Miriam, Tessa and Jasareen with much of the focus on Stacy's personal journey to healing and selfhood. By sharing the stories of healing and the transformational power of conscious choices and forgiveness, Sasha Samy hopes that others may garner the courage to confront and transcend their experiences. With poignant personal anecdotes, penetrating insights, psychological research and spiritual teachings, Samy integrates a practical and holistic approach to healing and transformation in her book. The book, which is divided into three parts, also discusses: What constitutes abuse and its effects Why the targeted do not leave their abusive partners What is lacking in dysfunctional relationships How our erroneous thoughts, attitudes and belief systems create self-sabotaging and self-destructive behavioral patterns Why shadow and inner works are essential to understanding the self Techniques and tools to embrace the healing process www.sashasamy.com

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An enduring solution starts with the correct diagnosis… The Catholic Clergy Sexual Abuse Scandal has haunted the lives of its victims and the Catholic community at large for decades. Even today, it continues to undermine the credibility of the Church and dishearten its faithful. Catholics remain rightfully frustrated and disappointed as Church leaders try to move beyond this ugly chapter without creating a cohesive plan to address the underlying issues that contributed to the scandal in the first place. Media coverage has often oversimplified these contributing factors, leaving many with the impression that simplistic solutions can fix the Church's problems. This is not the case. Written from an insider's perspective, this book strives to dispel unhelpful caricatures and more fully examine the broad contextual and aggravating factors that make the Catholic Clergy Sexual Abuse Scandal. It is heavily researched work designed to help parishioners, priests, and Church leaders more clearly consider the complexities of the crisis so that they may continue to make informed, concrete, and effective steps to heal the Church and its people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunningly vulnerable look at the horrific realities of sexual abuse and how to overcome them Male sexual abuse is increasingly in the news, from scandals in the Catholic Church to exploitations at Penn State. Yet books and programs about healing are still overwhelmingly oriented toward the female survivor of abuse. As men who experienced childhood abuse, the authors of this book are uniquely qualified to address the healing process of male survivors. Using the metaphor of a car accident, Naming Our Abuse leads the survivor from the Wreck to the Accident Report to Rehabilitation to Driving Again. This four-step model illustrates that healing is a process to be nurtured rather than something that can be healed in a single telling. Following the authors' examples, readers are invited to find solidarity with other male survivors and develop an understanding of their own wounding through journaling exercises. “Rarely has a book about a subject so difficult and taboo left me feeling so encouraged and hopeful. Three different stories of deep personal pain, woven together to tell a story not only of survival but of fullness of life we can all hope for.” —Steve LePore, Founder and Executive Director, 1in6

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sexual abuse and exploitation of women by members of the clergy is not a new issue. What is new is the public’s growing understanding of what is involved when members of the clergy ignore or repeatedly fall short of legal and ethical requirements to adhere to the expected standards of conduct. This work is based on the author’s study of 25 women from 11 states who were sexually abused by members of the clergy. A primary goal of the study was to help the violated women understand their experiences and make available to educators, practitioners and others concrete information about what it means to be sexually exploited by a trusted religious representative. The author also considers the viability of a trauma model to study the impact of such sexual abuse on women and on their relationships with others, and presents her findings that the participants did exhibit symptoms that strongly correspond with the classical and complex trauma criteria used.
