This book was released on 2016-01-19 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classic original fiction set in the Alien world, featuring Earth Hive by Steve Perry, Nightmare Asylum by Steve Perry and The Female War by Steve Perry and Stephani Perry. Earth Hive: Wilks was a space marine with a near-fatal flaw: he had a heart. Billie was a child, the only survivor of a far-flung colony outpost. Thrown together in the last hellish night of an alien invasion, Billie and Wilks helped each other get out alive. Thirteen years later Wilks is in prison, and Billie lives in a mental institution, the nightmare memories of the massacre at Rim seared into her mind. Now the government has tapped Wilks to lead an expedition to the aliens' home planet to bring back a live alien. But the competition on Earth to develop the aliens as a new weapons system is brutal. When Wilks's team departs on their mission, a trained assassin trails them. And what follows is no less than guerrilla warfare on the aliens' planet--and alien conquest on Earth! Nightmare Asylum: Wilks, Billie, and Bueller were the last survivors of a devastating assault on the aliens' home planet. But once their retum to the solar system made them refugees once more, fleeing Earth and its alien infestation in a desperate attempt to stay alive. Now, in an otherwise unmanned military transport, they hurtle through space. Destination: unknown. Little do they know that the cargo they carry with them is a legacy of death that they will ultimately have to face. Nor do they know that they head toward a remote colony and military outpost. This pocket of humanity at the very edges of space is at the mercy of a general names Spears with an agenda all his own. Now Billie, Wilks, and Bueller face a new nightmare, and it is nothing they could ever have imagined: a gift of madness from an alien world, unbalanced mind, and the experiences of a mysterious pilot named Lieutenant Ellen Ripley. The Female War: Lieutenant Ellen Ripley awoke from her long journey in space with a hole in her memory and an overwhelming drive to survive. When she meets Wilks and Billie, two battered veterans in the war against the alienss she realizes she's found two comrades in arms--and she's ready to take up the fight. Only then does she discover the devastating secret that lurks behind her long sleep. When she, Wilks, and Billie prepare to meet the aliens head-on to turn a powerful alien queen against her spawn in a battle intended to save Earth, that secret becomes her greatest weapon--and her greatest liability. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, Ripley and Billie must come to terms with what it means to be an alien . . . and what it means to be human.

Book Synopsis Ethical Dilemmas in Justice Studies by : Julie Raines
Download or read book Ethical Dilemmas in Justice Studies written by Julie Raines and published by Ethics International Press. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The criminal justice system has morphed from a harshly punitive system to a distinctively more rehabilitative and restorative one focusing on supporting victims and changing offender behavior. A variety of collaborative actors from police, courts, and corrections partner with social workers, psychologists, and community members who rely heavily on a civil law approach similar to alternative dispute resolution (ADR). While much of these innovations within criminal justice have been evolving over the last several decades, students in criminal justice programs rarely hear much, if anything, about them. This textbook seeks to address these gaps in the literature through the traditional Criminal Justice Ethics course with a case study approach. It will explore the typical subjects taught in a Criminal Justice Ethics course including the concepts of virtues, duties, ethical dilemmas, ethical systems, moral reasoning, police ethics, ethical issues in the courts, ethics within institutional and community corrections, and the ethical treatment of juveniles. In addition, the book addresses the concepts of administrative ethics, justice, comparative and international justice, humanitarian law and punishment, and corporate misconduct. Each chapter provides definitions for the terms that are being introduced, along with examples, and a variety of ethical dilemmas to work through as case studies.
Book Synopsis I'm Fine, But You Appear to Be Sinking by : Leyna Krow
Download or read book I'm Fine, But You Appear to Be Sinking written by Leyna Krow and published by featherproof books. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In I’m Fine, But You Appear to Be Sinking the strange and the mundane collide. These are stories of strange experiences set in familiar places, and of familiar experiences set in strange places. Many of the pieces in I’m Fine take place close to home, in suburban neighborhoods, or rural communities. The settings are conventional, yet something unexpected, or even magical, is occurring. In one piece, a couple speculates about random objects that appear without reason in their backyard. In another, neighbors try to figure out if a local meth dealer is keeping a live tiger captive on his property. In other pieces, it’s the setting that’s fantastical, but the characters’ reactions that remain ordinary, like in the titular story where a journalist lost at sea and hunted by a mythical ocean creature admits to struggling with loneliness and isolation in much the same way he does even when he’s safe at home. Although they are not directly linked by any specific character, the pieces in this collection are bound through reoccurring imagery and a shared theme of protagonists in emotional peril. There are unexpected appearances and disappearances, movement of inanimate objects, the search for something lost, the finding of something unusual. There are prophesies, dreams, unidentifiable creatures, and environmental catastrophes on a scale both large and small. There are action figures and octopuses, sullen teenagers and missing cats. At their core, these stories are imbued with mystery, oddity, humor, and empathy. They each stand on their own, but mean considerably more when read together.
