Book excerpt: Out-far, far, out-beyond where any of your friends have gone, lies Dragondaire. If you were to go there, you would see a world that resembled the human world as it was way back when there were castles, slaves, kings, queens you know the rest. But anybody who lived there long enough would realize the many differences from the world they came from. There would be trees in the shape of people, uncountable fires raging in the woods, and many prisons all around. Most people wouldn't have to eat for days on end, and you might even see a dragon flying high above the trees. Sixteen-year-old Aaden Oaks, a simple farm boy, leaves his home and family in search of fortune and adventure. He and his friends discover a world of adventure as they traverse exotic lands complete with dragons, elves, dwarves, and other magical creatures. Aaden discovers that he has magical powers and quickly learns how to use them. He even finds his own personal dragon. But danger looms on the horizon in an epic battle between good and evil, and there can be only one winner "Brian has an extraordinary writing career and future." -Mark Victor Hansen "Brian is my favorite young author. Amazing work by a fourth grader!!" -Will Wright, co-founder of Maxis, and creator of SimCity, The Sims, and many more.
Book Synopsis The Secret Life of the Adder by : Nicholas Milton
Download or read book The Secret Life of the Adder written by Nicholas Milton and published by White Owl. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2019 the most comprehensive survey ever of adders was published. According to ‘Make the Adder Count’ the species will disappear from most of Britain in the next 15-20 years unless we take action now to save it. But despite being a priority conservation species under the Biodiversity Action Plan, not a single nature reserve in Britain has been specifically designated to protect it. Throughout our history we have systematically persecuted the adder over generations because it is Britain’s only venomous snake. Now the adder population is in dire straits, its rapidly declining numbers occurring on increasingly small, isolated and fragmented sites. According to Make the Adder Count 90% of the sites where it still occurs have 10 or less adult snakes and are now considered to be very vulnerable to local extinction. Despite the adder population being in dire straits, it is still not too late to save it if we act now. This book contains a 10 point adder action plan which if implemented could help to restore the adder to its former range across Britain. Using many unique photographs of the species published for the first time, it also contains a history of the adder and reveals its secret life which has made it the most successful snake in the world. With a foreword by Iolo Williams, the BBC Springwatch presenter, this book is a story of our times, one which typifies the age of extinction through which we are all living and are all responsible.

Book Synopsis Hitler?s Children by : Jillian Becker
Download or read book Hitler?s Children written by Jillian Becker and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1977 in the US and Britain to universal critical acclaim, Hitler's Children quickly became a world-wide best seller, translated into many other languages, including Japanese. It tells the story of the West German terrorists who emerged out of the 'New Left' student protest movement of the late 1960s. With bombs and bullets they started killing in the name of 'peace'. Almost all of them came from prosperous, educated families. They were 'Hitler's children' not only in that they had been born in or immediately after the Nazi period - some of their parents having been members of the Nazi party - but also because they were as fiercely against individual freedom as the Nazis were. Their declared ideology was Communism. They were beneficiaries of both American aid and the West German economic miracle. Despising their immeasurable gifts of prosperity and freedom, they 'identified' themselves with Third World victims of wars, poverty and oppression, whose plight they blamed on 'Western imperialism'. In reality, their terrorist activity was for no better cause than self-expression. Their dreams of leading a revolution were ended when one after another of them died in shoot-outs with the police, or was blown up with his own bomb, or was arrested, tried, and condemned to long terms of imprisonment. All four leaders of the Red Army Faction (dubbed 'the Baader-Meinhof gang' by journalists) committed suicide in prison.

Download or read book New Methods of Concurrent Checking written by Michael Gössel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-04-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computers are everywhere around us. We, for example, as air passengers, car drivers, laptop users with Internet connection, cell phone owners, hospital patients, inhabitants in the vicinity of a nuclear power station, students in a digital library or customers in a supermarket are dependent on their correct operation. Computers are incredibly fast, inexpensive and equipped with almost unimag- able large storage capacity. Up to 100 million transistors per chip are quite common today - a single transistor for each citizen of a large capital city in the world can be 2 easily accommodated on an ordinary chip. The size of such a chip is less than 1 cm . This is a fantastic achievement for an unbelievably low price. However, the very small and rapidly decreasing dimensions of the transistors and their connections over the years are also the reason for growing problems with reliability that will dramatically increase for the nano-technologies in the near future. Can we always trust computers? Are computers always reliable? Are chips suf- ciently tested with respect to all possible permanent faults if we buy them at a low price or have errors due to undetected permanent faults to be discovered by c- current checking? Besides permanent faults, many temporary or transient faults are also to be expected.
