Book Synopsis Image and Video Retrieval by : Wee-Kheng Leow
Download or read book Image and Video Retrieval written by Wee-Kheng Leow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-07-14 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was our great pleasure to host the 4th International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR) at the National University of Singapore on 20–22 July 2005. CIVR aims to provide an international forum for the discussion of research challenges and exchange of ideas among researchers and practitioners in image/video retrieval technologies. It addresses innovative research in the broad ?eld of image and video retrieval. A unique feature of this conference is the high level of participation by researchers from both academia and industry. Another unique feature of CIVR this year was in its format – it o?ered both the traditional oral presentation sessions, as well as the short presentation cum poster sessions. The latter provided an informal alternative forum for animated discussions and exchanges of ideas among the participants. We are pleased to note that interest in CIVR has grown over the years. The number of submissions has steadily increased from 82 in 2002, to 119 in 2003, and 125 in 2004. This year, we received 128 submissions from the international communities:with81(63.3%)fromAsiaandAustralia,25(19.5%)fromEurope, and 22 (17.2%) from North America. After a rigorous review process, 20 papers were accepted for oral presentations, and 42 papers were accepted for poster presentations. In addition to the accepted submitted papers, the program also included 4 invited papers, 1 keynote industrial paper, and 4 invited industrial papers. Altogether, we o?ered a diverse and interesting program, addressing the current interests and future trends in this area.

Book Synopsis Java Concurrency in Practice by : Tim Peierls
Download or read book Java Concurrency in Practice written by Tim Peierls and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2006-05-09 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Threads are a fundamental part of the Java platform. As multicore processors become the norm, using concurrency effectively becomes essential for building high-performance applications. Java SE 5 and 6 are a huge step forward for the development of concurrent applications, with improvements to the Java Virtual Machine to support high-performance, highly scalable concurrent classes and a rich set of new concurrency building blocks. In Java Concurrency in Practice, the creators of these new facilities explain not only how they work and how to use them, but also the motivation and design patterns behind them. However, developing, testing, and debugging multithreaded programs can still be very difficult; it is all too easy to create concurrent programs that appear to work, but fail when it matters most: in production, under heavy load. Java Concurrency in Practice arms readers with both the theoretical underpinnings and concrete techniques for building reliable, scalable, maintainable concurrent applications. Rather than simply offering an inventory of concurrency APIs and mechanisms, it provides design rules, patterns, and mental models that make it easier to build concurrent programs that are both correct and performant. This book covers: Basic concepts of concurrency and thread safety Techniques for building and composing thread-safe classes Using the concurrency building blocks in java.util.concurrent Performance optimization dos and don'ts Testing concurrent programs Advanced topics such as atomic variables, nonblocking algorithms, and the Java Memory Model

Book Synopsis WebGL Programming Guide by : Kouichi Matsuda
Download or read book WebGL Programming Guide written by Kouichi Matsuda and published by Addison-Wesley. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using WebGL®, you can create sophisticated interactive 3D graphics inside web browsers, without plug-ins. WebGL makes it possible to build a new generation of 3D web games, user interfaces, and information visualization solutions that will run on any standard web browser, and on PCs, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, or other devices. WebGL Programming Guide will help you get started quickly with interactive WebGL 3D programming, even if you have no prior knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript, 3D graphics, mathematics, or OpenGL. You’ll learn step-by-step, through realistic examples, building your skills as you move from simple to complex solutions for building visually appealing web pages and 3D applications with WebGL. Media, 3D graphics, and WebGL pioneers Dr. Kouichi Matsuda and Dr. Rodger Lea offer easy-to-understand tutorials on key aspects of WebGL, plus 100 downloadable sample programs, each demonstrating a specific WebGL topic. You’ll move from basic techniques such as rendering, animating, and texturing triangles, all the way to advanced techniques such as fogging, shadowing, shader switching, and displaying 3D models generated by Blender or other authoring tools. This book won’t just teach you WebGL best practices, it will give you a library of code to jumpstart your own projects. Coverage includes: • WebGL’s origin, core concepts, features, advantages, and integration with other web standards • How and basic WebGL functions work together to deliver 3D graphics • Shader development with OpenGL ES Shading Language (GLSL ES) • 3D scene drawing: representing user views, controlling space volume, clipping, object creation, and perspective • Achieving greater realism through lighting and hierarchical objects • Advanced techniques: object manipulation, heads-up displays, alpha blending, shader switching, and more • Valuable reference appendixes covering key issues ranging from coordinate systems to matrices and shader loading to web browser settings This is the newest text in the OpenGL Technical Library, Addison-Wesley’s definitive collection of programming guides an reference manuals for OpenGL and its related technologies. The Library enables programmers to gain a practical understanding of OpenGL and the other Khronos application-programming libraries including OpenGL ES and OpenCL. All of the technologies in the OpenGL Technical Library evolve under the auspices of the Khronos Group, the industry consortium guiding the evolution of modern, open-standards media APIs.

Book Synopsis Notes and Problems in Number Theory (Volume I) by : Taha Sochi
Download or read book Notes and Problems in Number Theory (Volume I) written by Taha Sochi and published by Taha Sochi. This book was released on 2023-10-22 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first volume of a collection of notes and solved problems about number theory. Like my previous books, maximum clarity was one of the main objectives and criteria in determining the style of writing, presenting and structuring the book as well as selecting its contents. Modest mathematical background knowledge is required for understanding most of the contents of the book. In fact, the book in most parts requires no more than a college or secondary school level of general mathematics. So, the intended readers of the book are primarily college (or A-level) students as well as junior undergraduate students (e.g. in mathematics or science or engineering). The book can be used as a text or as a reference for an introductory course on this subject and may also be used for general reading in mathematics. The book may also be adopted as a source of pedagogical materials which can supplement, for instance, tutorial sessions (e.g. in undergraduate courses on mathematics or science).
