Other topics include the sufficiency of God's grace, His purpose for man's creation, His role as comforter, His strength and His faithfulness. A number of articles relate the story of how the brief life of the author's great grandson and that of his parents had such a significant impact on so many lives. Several articles resulted from the author's personal life experiences including the emotions involved in moving on from a loved home and lifetime church. Other articles touch on heroes of the bible, a debt you can never pay, Paul Harvey's radio broadcast of "If I Were the Devil," and experiencing the indwelling life of Christ. This is the third in a series of books by Jim Davenport dealing with the general topic of Christian Devotions and Quick Studies, which was the title of the first volume. The second volume is An Attitude of Thankfulness.

Book excerpt: This book traces the history of how the celebration of Thanksgiving in the U.S.A. has changed from the time of the Pilgrims in 1621 to modern day 2012. What started as a religious observance marked by worship, prayer, a hearty meal and a community attitude of thankfulness has transitioned over time to a secular long weekend filled with family, friends, over-eating, watching football and shopping. The primary purpose of the book is to encourage Christians to refocus their Thanksgiving Day celebration away from the secular to the religious with an emphasis on giving thanks to our Creator and Providential Provider ... Almighty Jehovah God.

This book is a walk through my life; an open window into my heart; my opportunity to show the goodness of God. It is a love letter to God, my husband, and my family. It is a testimony of what God can do for someone who should have been a statistic according to man. Accordint to statistics, because of the circumstances of my birth, I was destined for failure. So this book tells the world we are somebody and we all have gifts and talents, and statistics don't mean anything. We all can rise above and move forward with joy and gladness. This book gives a look inside my life, mistakes and all. Take a look into my heart when I write of my love for my husband, my soul mate. I speak of the many blessings God has bestowed on me. I also speak of some of the heartbreak in my life. Once again, I invite you to take a look into the window of my soul.

Book excerpt: As a child growing up I had all the love that my parents could give, but the struggles growing up very poor led me to rebel and I began to live life on the wild side. In school there was constant pressure from all the other kids because I did not have all the luxuries that most of them took for granted. Skipping school, hitch-hiking and getting high became my way of escape from all the pressures of growing up. At the time I didn't know it, but all of this was God's plan for me to prepare me for what was ahead. There were so many times I put my life at risk just for a cheap thrill. I should not be here now to write this book. But by the grace of God, I was spared from my stupidity and given the opportunity to tell my story. The story of how God's love surpasses any and all struggles that this world can throw at you. This is the story of my "LOST SOUL". I'm fifty- two years old and sick. My biggest dream has been to help impoverished and sick children and their families. My Lord put it in my heart to write this book. It took me one year to complete it. Many times I prayed to the Lord to allow me to help all the children. Now with the writing of this book, I hope that I can. My book, (really its God's book), Lost Soul describes my life long struggle to fully serve my Lord, who has always, even in the darkest days of my life, guided me to overcoming sadness and tragedy, involving my friends, relatives and myself. It took me years to grow stronger to see the joy that only Jesus can give.

Some touch on items of importance to the local church such as how to deal with rumors and gossip, the Biblical pattern for giving, the comparison of givers and takers, harboring grudges, and the proper order for worship. Many of the articles provide advice to the individual Christian on their daily walk with God including such topics as lifestyle choices, the sanctity of life, changes brought about by the salvation experience, how to deal with fear, facing tough times, being a friend, and making right choices. Several articles touch on Islam with one providing a basic comparison to Christian beliefs. Others address the nature of God, the gift of Jesus, and the believer's sufficiency in Christ. Not everyone will appreciate the author's point of view, but his purpose is to make you think ... and in particular to think about and strengthen your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a woman who wants to follow Jesus in her everyday life, you yearn for intimacy with God. You long to know His presence, to be satisfied in heart and soul, but you don't know how. You feel like you're trudging through your days, making sure you're doing everything you can for Him . . . but you can't shake the feeling that something is missing. Linda Dillow understands. She longed for depth of intimacy with God, but in the middle of a busy and complicated life, realized that she'd settled for serving Him. And when our actions for God are our primary focus, we miss the extraordinary honor of getting to be with Him. So how can we be with Him? Through a life of worship. True worship is both a specific act and a lifestyle. As you learn what it means to bow your knee (the act of worship), you'll gain a renewed intimacy with God. And as you learn to bow your thoughts, words, work, attitudes, will, and even pain (the lifestyle of worship), you'll be drawn into God's holy and life-giving presence--the place where He will truly satisfy your thirsty soul. This journal will help you move into a life of worship and discover deeper intimacy with God in an intentional and life-giving way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reverend Stanley Rexroths Walk with God is spiritually uplifting. A reader will learn and gain inspiration of a faithful life journey with God. You will feel that you are present witnessing this faith mission. You will experience the poor souls of the world who yearn for love and healing. Over and over again, you will be filled with Pastors sharing the bibles loving message of truth and wisdom. We experience the sacrifice of suffering of Pastors saving souls for our God. One is given tremendous insight into their own lifes faith journey. Yes, the story of Walking with God will change your life as it helps you listen and grow in spirituality with the love of our Savior. Jerry Lemons Senior MSgt. USAF Retired Note: Jerry Lemons has witnessed the suffering of the worlds poorest of the poor in the Philippines, Vietnam and other areas of our world When I first became acquainted with Stanley Rexroth, I was suspicious of his intent. I was teaching in a public school at the time and he was speaking out on an issue that was dividing our district. He then was elected to the school board. We became acquainted by being on opposite sides of a controversial issue but through time we gained a mutual respect for each other and have become friends in recent years. After reading Stanleys autobiography A Walk With God I came to realize that despite humble beginnings, he has led a truly remarkable life. Stanley is a deeply religious man and his book centers upon his growth in faith and service. He served in the USAF and founded mission churches while stationed in the Philippines. He has made numerous mission trips back to the Philippines and to Nigeria throughout his life. He started his own church. As his congregation struggled financially he went to college to become a public school teacher. He taught American history and agriculture, in part to support his congregation. He served his community in various capacities and extended his influence religiously by organizing a national convention of pastors of independent Churches of God, which continues to meet annually after 21 years. Throughout his journey he remained steadfast in his belief in and commitment to his family, his God, and his country. This book can benefit the reader in that many people give up on their attempts to make a commitment to God because they expect a revolutionary event to occur similar to St Pauls conversion on the road to Damascus. A Walk With God enables one to understand that such a commitment is more likely to be an evolutionary process, one that results from an ongoing journey filled with questioning, occasional doubt, and often blind trust. Upon reading this book one cannot help but be reminded of Marks gospel (RSV Ch. 4) where Christ is explaining the kingdom of God with the parable of the sower who went out to sow. In clarifying the parable for his disciples he explains in verse 20, But those [seeds] that were sown upon the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold. Stanley Rexroths autobiography, A Walk With God, is the witness of one who represents the seed that fell on good soil. A VIVID PORTRAIT OF HIS LIFE AND MISSION WORK Stanley Rexroth, long time school teacher, pastor and missionary, has written a very interesting account of his life. He is very exacting and detailed in his descriptions of different involvements through the years. If you want to read a good book, which has incidents to which we can all relate, or are interested in mission work, I encourage you to read Stanley Rexroths autobiography, A Walk with God. The stories Bro. Stanley shares of his life are very heartwarming and intriguing. We have served on the mission field together, and I have always looked up to him because of his wisdom and experience. He has been a true brother in the faith. Rube Gayheart, Chairman of World Missionary Fellowship, USA President of Ohio Bible College

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Soul's Sincere Desire: Establishing a Personal Relationship with God explores the promises, the privileges, the advantages of establishing and maintaining a personal relationship with God. Prayer is quite often viewed as subject matter for discussion in Sunday/Church school, weekly Bible studies, or it is even preached during Sunday morning sermons. It appears, the early disciples of Jesus, in their daily interaction and observation of Jesus, their leader/teacher, believed themselves to be deficient in prayer. When asked to teach them to pray, Jesus began his teaching with much confidence, adamantly uttering, "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. . ." There are many people who believe themselves superior to others. Jesus taught relationship with God is inclusive, experiential, and experimental.
