Book Synopsis Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar) by : Florence T. Wright
Download or read book Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar) written by Florence T. Wright and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North American stocks of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have been declining. One measure being employed to reverse that trend is increased hatchery production. As with husbandry of other animals, intensive rearing is usually associated with higher than normal health risks. Research on diseases of Atlantic salmon can help prevent, reduce, or otherwise control mortality due to problem parasites, infections, and other diseases. For planning of research as well as for diagnostic work, health management, and husbandry, published information on diseases of the Atlantic salmon must be readily available. Inasmuch as the literature is widely scattered, the purpose of this work is to compile a bibliography from international sources on the diseases (detection, diagnosis, identification, and control) of Atlantic salmon. Most of the references are arranged alphabetically by author, either have been annotated by the staff of the Eastern Fish Disease Laboratory, or are abstracts by the author.

Book Synopsis Chemical Forest Fire Retardants by : W. Waynon Johnson
Download or read book Chemical Forest Fire Retardants written by W. Waynon Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxicities of four chemical forest fire retardants, Fire-Trol 100 and 931 (ammonium sulfate, or polyphosphate with an attapulgit clay thickner) and Phos-Chek 202A and 259 (diammonium phosphate with guar gum derivative thickner) were determined by static and flow-through toxicity tests for fry and fingerling coho salmon and rainbow trout; fingerling fathead minnows, bluegills, and largemouth bass; and mature scuds. In static tests, Phos-Chek formulations were more toxic than either of the Fire-Trol formulations to scuds and all life stages of fish. In salmon and trout, fry were generally more susceptible than fingerlings to all formulations; yolk-sac fry were more susceptible than swim-up friy. Toxicities of all formulations to salmon and trout were similar at 6 to 11 degress centigrade. Un-ionized ammonia is believed to be the most toxic component of thes fire retardants.

Book Synopsis Biology of the Redtail Surfperch (Amphistichus Rhodoterus) from the Central Oregon Coast by : Donald E. Bennett
Download or read book Biology of the Redtail Surfperch (Amphistichus Rhodoterus) from the Central Oregon Coast written by Donald E. Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on certain aspects of the life history of the redtail surfperch were collected along the central coast of Oregon, from April 1967 through April 1969. Annulus formation occured during February through June, usually earlier in young than in older fish. Mating occurred from late December to early January, and the young were born from July through September. The number of embryos per female ranged from 1 to 39 (mean 13.3) and increased linearly with the length and weight of the females. Food of the fish from the surf zone included crustaceans (by far the most important group in both frequency of occurrence and total volume) and (in order of decreasing importance) fishes, mollusks, and polychaetes. Parasites of the redtail surfperch were immature nematodes (Anisakinae) ; the digenetic trematode Genitocotyle acirra; the monogenetic trematode, Diclidophora sp.; and the copepods, Caligus sp., Clavella sp., and Argulus catostomi.
Book Synopsis Efficacy, Toxicity, and Residues of Nifurpirinol in Salmonids by : Donald F. Amend

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nifurpirinol (NFP), also know by code name P-7138, was tested for control of furunculosis, myxobacterioses, and vibriosis, and for effects on rainbow trout, coho, and chinook salmon under various conditions. Further tests are needed to verify the use of NFP for control of other bacterial diseases.
Book Synopsis Studies on Selected Myxobacteria Pathogenic for Fishes and on Bacterial Gill Disease in Hatchery-reared Salmonids by : G. L. Bullock
Download or read book Studies on Selected Myxobacteria Pathogenic for Fishes and on Bacterial Gill Disease in Hatchery-reared Salmonids written by G. L. Bullock and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morphological, physiological, and serological studies on 55 myxobacteria isolated principally from gill disease, tail rot, and other myxobacterial infections showed that a variety of myxobacteria occur in these infections. Athought there were different morphological types of myxobacteria, all strains from freshwater and estuarine sources were physiologically similar. Isolates from marine sources were physiologically less active than the other test organisms.

This book was released on 1976 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abundance increased and was highest in the lower third of the reservoir while it was filling, whereas it decreased and was generally highest in the upper two-thirds of the reservoir after it was filled. Abundance of species produced in littoral areas was greater wwhile the reservoir was filling -- particularly in years when spring water levels covered vegetation, fluctuated little, and were maintained through May or longer -- than after the reservoir was filled.
