Book Synopsis Classical Thermodynamics of Non-Electrolyte Solutions by : H. C. Van Ness
Download or read book Classical Thermodynamics of Non-Electrolyte Solutions written by H. C. Van Ness and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical Thermodynamics of Non-Electrolyte Solutions covers the historical development of classical thermodynamics that concerns the properties of vapor and liquid solutions of non-electrolytes. Classical thermodynamics is a network of equations, developed through the formal logic of mathematics from a very few fundamental postulates and leading to a great variety of useful deductions. This book is composed of seven chapters and begins with discussions on the fundamentals of thermodynamics and the thermodynamic properties of fluids. The succeeding chapter presents the equations of state for the calculation of the thermodynamic behavior of constant-composition fluids, both liquid and gaseous. These topics are followed by surveys of the mixing of pure materials to form a solution under conditions of constant temperature and pressure. The discussion then shifts to general equations for calculation of partial molal properties of homogeneous binary systems. The last chapter considers the approach to equilibrium of systems within which composition changes are brought about either by mass transfer between phases or by chemical reaction within a phase, or by both.

Book Synopsis Vapour–Liquid Equilibrium by : Eduard Hála
Download or read book Vapour–Liquid Equilibrium written by Eduard Hála and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium, Second Edition covers the theoretical principles and methods of calculation of equilibrium conditions from various experimental data and the elements of measuring technique, as well as the instruments for the direct determination of the equilibrium compositions of the liquid and vapor phases of the system. The book discusses the relations necessary for the thermodynamic treatment of the equilibrium between the liquid and vapor phase of a system; the concept of an ideal solution and auxiliary thermodynamic functions; and the activity and the activity coefficient. The text also describes vapor-liquid equilibrium in real systems (electrolytes and non-electrolytes) and in systems whose components (i.e. temperature, pressure, and composition of phases) mutually react according to several stoichiometric equations. The criteria of purity of substances and the methods of measuring temperature; low, medium, and high pressures; the pressures of the saturated vapors at given temperatures; and the boiling points at given pressures used in laboratory work in the field of vapor-liquid equilibrium are considered. The book also tackles the methods for the direct determination of equilibrium data (distillation, circulation, static, dew and bubble point, and flow methods). The text concludes with a review of the literature on the systems whose vapor-liquid equilibrium data had been measured and reported to the beginning of 1954. Workers in the chemical industry who deal with problems of distillation and rectification will find the book useful.

Book Synopsis High Pressure Fluid Technology for Green Food Processing by : Tiziana Fornari
Download or read book High Pressure Fluid Technology for Green Food Processing written by Tiziana Fornari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-31 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the fundamentals of high pressure technologies from the perspective of mass transfer phenomena and thermodynamic considerations. Novel food applications are exposed and their relation to chemical analysis, extraction, reaction and particle formation processes are outlined. The chapters are written by a diverse group of scientists with expertise in chemistry, food processes, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering and chemical engineering thermodynamics, and biotechnology. The mission of green food engineering is to promote innovative technologies that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous materials (solvents, reagents) in the design and operation of food related processes, with the view to improve food safety and quality. Several efficient, environmentally friendly and benign technologies based on the use of high pressure and green solvents have demonstrated to be sustainable alternatives to traditional processes in the food industry. Although hundreds of new ideas are being published in the open literature, reliable engineering tools to simulate and design those processes are still under development. High Pressure Fluid Technology for Green Food Processing presents in-depth analyses and outlines the ways towards their maturity. Book Synopsis Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation by : Jürgen Gmehling
Download or read book Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation written by Jürgen Gmehling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 819 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only textbook that applies thermodynamics to real-world process engineering problems This must-read for advanced students and professionals alike is the first book to demonstrate how chemical thermodynamics work in the real world by applying them to actual engineering examples. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the particular models and procedures, and explains the most important models that are applied in process industry. All the topics are illustrated with examples that are closely related to practical process simulation problems. At the end of each chapter, additional calculation examples are given to enable readers to extend their comprehension. Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation instructs on the behavior of fluids for pure fluids, describing the main types of equations of state and their abilities. It discusses the various quantities of interest in process simulation, their correlation, and prediction in detail. Chapters look at the important terms for the description of the thermodynamics of mixtures; the most important models and routes for phase equilibrium calculation; models which are applicable to a wide variety of non-electrolyte systems; membrane processes; polymer thermodynamics; enthalpy of reaction; chemical equilibria, and more. -Explains thermodynamic fundamentals used in process simulation with solved examples -Includes new chapters about modern measurement techniques, retrograde condensation, and simultaneous description of chemical equilibrium -Comprises numerous solved examples, which simplify the understanding of the often complex calculation procedures, and discusses advantages and disadvantages of models and procedures -Includes estimation methods for thermophysical properties and phase equilibria thermodynamics of alternative separation processes -Supplemented with MathCAD-sheets and DDBST programs for readers to reproduce the examples Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation is an ideal resource for those working in the fields of process development, process synthesis, or process optimization, and an excellent book for students in the engineering sciences.
Book Synopsis Industrial High Pressure Applications by : Rudolf Eggers
Download or read book Industrial High Pressure Applications written by Rudolf Eggers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial high pressure processes open the door to many reactions that are not possible under 'normal' conditions. These are to be found in such different areas as polymerization, catalytic reactions, separations, oil and gas recovery, food processing, biocatalysis and more. The most famous high pressure process is the so-called Haber-Bosch process used for fertilizers and which was awarded a Nobel prize. Following an introduction on historical development, the current state, and future trends, this timely and comprehensive publication goes on to describe different industrial processes, including methanol and other catalytic syntheses, polymerization and renewable energy processes, before covering safety and equipment issues. With its excellent choice of industrial contributions, this handbook offers high quality information not found elsewhere, making it invaluable reading for a broad and interdisciplinary audience.
