Book Synopsis The Advanced Petroleum-Based Fuels Program Evaluation of EC-Diesel and Diesel Particulate Filters in Southern California Vehicle Fleets by :
Download or read book The Advanced Petroleum-Based Fuels Program Evaluation of EC-Diesel and Diesel Particulate Filters in Southern California Vehicle Fleets written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EC-Diesel and particulate filter combination greatly reduced the particulate matter, hydrocarbon, and carbon monoxide emissions of all vehicles tested in the program to date. Particulate matter reductions greater than 98% were achieved. For several vehicles tested, the PM and HC emissions were less than background levels. Based on preliminary statistical analysis, there is 95%+ confidence that EC-D and particulate filters reduced emissions from three different types of vehicles. A fuel consumption penalty was not detectable using the current test procedures and chassis dynamometer laboratory. Test vehicles equipped with the CRT and DPX particulate filters and fueled with EC-Diesel fuel have operated reliably during the program start-up period.
Book Synopsis Diesel Particulate Filter Technology by : Timothy V Johnson
Download or read book Diesel Particulate Filter Technology written by Timothy V Johnson and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2007-03-28 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, the complexity of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system has hindered its commercial success. Stringent regulations of diesel emissions has lead to advancements in this technology, therefore mainstreaming the use of DPFs in light- and heavy-duty diesel filtration applications. This book covers the latest and most important research in DPF systems, focusing mainly on the advancements of the years 2002-2006. Editor Timothy V. Johnson selected the top 29 SAE papers covering the most significant research in this technology.

Download or read book DEMONSTRATION OF POTENTIAL FOR SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION AND DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS. written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project addresses the potential for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) devices (using urea as reductant) together with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and low-pressure loop exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to achieve future stringent emissions standards for heavy-duty engines powering Class 8 vehicles. Two emission control systems consisting of the three technologies (EGR, SCR, and DPF) were calibrated on a Caterpillar C-12 heavy-duty diesel engine. Results of these calibrations showed good promise in meeting the 2010 heavy-duty emission standards as set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These two emission control systems were developed to evaluate a series of fuels that have similar formulations except for their sulfur content. Additionally, one fuel, code-named BP15, was also evaluated. This fuel was prepared by processing straight-run distillate stocks through a commercial, single stage hydrotreater employing high activity catalyst at maximum severity. An additional goal of this program is to provide data for an on-going EPA technology review that evaluates progress toward meeting 2007/2010 emission standards. These emissions levels were to be achieved not only on the transient test cycles but in other modes of operation such as the steady-state Euro-III style emission test known as the OICA (Organisation Internationale des Compagnies d'Automobiles) or the ESC (European Stationary Cycle). Additionally, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions standards are to be met.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particulate matter in the diesel exhaust is the dominant mobile source of cancer in the urban transport system. Diesel particulate filter (DPF) using a ceramic wall flow filter is the promising technology for abating particulate matter pollution. The mechanical durability of ceramic filter due to vehicle vibration, thermal durability during regeneration and efficient and economical regeneration systems are the major concerns for making this system viable. A novel system of DPF with simple and viable regeneration method suitable to Indian urban transport was developed and evaluated for performance by field testing. DPF was designed using wall flow filter made from highly thermal shock resistant cordierite honeycombs after optimizing the back pressure and engine power loss. The mechanical durability was measured after fitting DPF in a transport bus and running it for several cycles, accumulating with periodic regeneration more than 20,000 km and observed no deterioration of performance. An electrical regeneration system was designed with a practical regeneration interval of about a day using stationary power and pressurized air source. The back pressure, smoke density, temperature, fuel consumption were measured at each cycle of field test before and after regeneration to evaluate the thermal durability, filtration efficiency and regeneration performance. The developed DPF system showed an average 0.4 g/km collection of particulate matter without any appreciable loss of power and no significant increase in fuel consumption. The results obtained during the field test and, engine performance and emission data collected on engine test bed are discussed.
