Sin embargo, ha sido posible reconstruir los principales ejes temáticos y las modulaciones más significativas de esta tradición de pensamiento, que lo es, en cuanto que tiene sus referentes clásicos y sus propias fuentes de autoridad conceptual: en suma, sus liderazgos epistemológicos ligados con sus liderazgos políticos. Las movilizaciones feministas resurgen con vigor en las décadas de los 60 y los 70 del pasado siglo. Sus militantes proceden de la cantera de la New Left y del Movimiento pro derechos civiles de los afroamericanos, sin embargo, en su militancia en estos medios progresistas e igualitaristas, las mujeres hacen la experiencia del sexismo y plantean la necesidad de organizarse de forma autónoma. Correlativamente, en el plano teórico tratarán de independizarse de la absorción de sus problemas específicos en los parámetros conceptuales de los principales paradigmas vigentes –el marxismo y el psicoanálisis– y generarán de este modo –fundamentalmente lo hará el feminismo radical– teorías originales para dar cuenta de la opresión de las mujeres como tales. Al hilo del debate en torno a estas construcciones teóricas, aparecerán interesantes reelaboraciones del feminismo socialista y peculiares derivas, como el feminismo cultural. La puesta en cuestión de los ideales ilustrados por la posmodernidad en el fin de siglo le planteará al feminismo emancipatorio ineludibles retos. Celia Amorós Puente, catedrática de Filosofía Moral y Política de la UNED, que dirige desde 1990 el curso «Historia de la teoría feminista» del Instituto de Investigaciones Feministas de la Universidad Complutense; y Ana de Miguel Álvarez, profesora titular de Sociología del género en la Universidad de la Coruña, estudiosas de los movimientos sociales, son las editoras de esta obra editada en tres volúmenes en la que colaboran prestigiosas autoras.
