Book excerpt: The Upanishads are a group of texts in Hindu sacred literature that are considered to reveal the ultimate truth and whose knowledge is considered to lead to spiritual emancipation. In the Upanishads, we find the finest flowering of the Indian metaphysical and speculative thought. They are utterances of seers who spoke out of the fullness of their illumined experience. Upanishad is derived from upa (near), ni (down) and sad (to sit). Hence, the term implies the pupils, intent on learning, sitting near the teacher to acquire knowledge and truth. There are over 200 Upanishads but the traditional number is 108. Of them, only 10 are the principal Upanishads: Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashan, Mundaka, Mandukya, Tattiriya, Aitareya, Chhandogya and Brihadaranyaka. This book is a forerunner in introducing these primary Upanishads to the uninitiated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three thousand years ago, deep inside the forests of India, a great 'thought revolution' was brewing. In those forest labs, the brightest thinker–philosophers contemplated the universe, reflected on ancient texts called the Vedas and came up with startling insights into questions we still don't have final answers to, like: • What is the universe made of? • How do I know I'm looking at a tree when I see one? • Who am I? And where did they put those explosive findings? In a sprawling body of goosebumpy and fascinating oral literature called the Upanishads! Intimidated? Don't be! For this joyful, fun guide to some of India's longest-lasting secular wisdoms, reinterpreted for first-time explorers by Roopa Pai, is guaranteed to keep you turning the pages.

Book excerpt: The Upanishads has now been expanded and brought out in two volumes, with much new material published for the first time in book form. The single volume The Upanishads has been discontinued, with all its content included in the two new volumes, each available as an independent book. The Kena Upanishad is concerned with the relation of mind-consciousness to Brahman-consciousness , writes Sri Aurobindo in his commentary on this work. The material world and the physical life exist for us only by virtue of our internal self and our internal life. According as our mental instruments represent to us the external world, according as our vital force in obedience to the mind deals with its impacts and objects, so will be our outward life and existence. Along with Sri Aurobindo's final translation of and commentary on the Kena, this book includes his translations of six other Upanishads as well as several other translations and commentaries, and essays such as 'The Philosophy of the Upanishads'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has come among humanity and is providing spiritual sustenance and guidance, in order to re-establish truth, justice, peace, and love as the mainspring of individual, social, and national life. He is using ancient and modern instruments for this great task, Sanathana Dharma and science. His writings, discourses, and conversations, which correct, communicate, and convince, are full of statements and commentaries on the discoveries of physical and metaphysical sciences. This book, which gives in English His articles (first published in Telugu in the Sanathana Sarathi) on the Ten Upanishads (invaluable textbooks on spiritual discipline and on the glorious fruit of spiritual adventure) will reveal to you the vast limitless mercy that impels Him to save us from trivialities and prompts Him to guide us along, until we reach the Goal of Life. Making us tread the path discovered by the sages of the past, inducing us to revere their light and their message, illumining in us the flame of knowledge, which dispels delusion —that is what Bhagawan, with His Supreme Love, does for us in this book. Let us read it with care, recapitulate it with earnestness in the silence of our hearts, and practise it with humility and faith in every turn of thought, in every tilt of tongue, and in every digit of deed.

They offer vital guidelines on Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Social Psychology, Human Behavior and Modern-day Management concepts. Ancient Indian scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and some parts of Mahabharata are included in the book for HRM topics such as self-management, ethics, values, work potential, motivation, leadership, boss management, stress management and interpersonal relationships, etc. The study used quantitative methodology and collected data from 273 participants working in ten Indian companies. The statistical results have been included in the book only briefly to retain flow and fluency of thought for the reader. The work addresses the vital HR management issues in a culturally sensitive approach that is thoroughly based on Indian scriptural advices. The study proposes to plug the gaps in existing management knowledge that is lopsidedly based on the Western management research and theories. Resultantly, Arjuna Syndrome Model and Krishna Cure Model are presented. These models plug in the gaps in existing literature in the HRM and advance theory by suggesting novel ways of managing emotions, motivation, leadership, interpersonal relationships, recruitment and work potential at workplace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vedas are one of the biggest milestones in the 10,000 year history of ancient India. India has a recorded historical continuity of thousands of years in the form of Epics, Vedas, Puranas, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads etc. One of the greatest milestones is the Upanishads. There are four Vedas which are Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda. These four Vedas has 1180 branches. Rig Veda has 21 branches, Yajur Veda has 109 branches, Sama Veda has 1000 branches and Atharva Veda has 50 branches. Among these branches, each branch has an Upanishad. If we take an estimate from these numbers, there are 1180 Upanishads in total. Over the course of time, due to extensive invasions and destruction of ancient universities which happened in northern and central India, many of these branches and Upanishads were lost. Historical researchers discovered more than 200 Upanishads as of now. Among these, around 108 Upanishads are available in printed form nowadays. Sree Shankara Bhagavadpada who is known as Adi Shankaracharya coined the most important aspects needed for humans and created 10 Upanishads. These 10 Upanishads are considered as the most important Upanishads.
