Book excerpt: "The name "Margie Towery" is synonymous with index quality, and in this guide the master indexer distills more than two decades of experience for the benefit of her fellow indexers. Towery defines and explores the characteristics of quality indexes: audiences and accessibility, metatopics and index structure, accuracy, comprehensiveness, conciseness, consistency, clarity, reflexivity, readability, and common sense. Writing in an engaging and accessible style, she shares her own struggles in indexing and offers strategies for overcoming challenges such as bias and language, indexing blocks, and working with authors. Her digressions into research on reading and decision-making provide a wider context for thinking about quality, while her suggestions and checklist for evaluating indexes round out this essential volume for professional indexers at every skill level."--Page 4 de la couverture.

Download or read book Healthcare Transformation with Informatics and Artificial Intelligence written by J. Mantas and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2023-07-27 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is once again in the news, with many major figures urging caution as developments in the technology accelerate. AI impacts all aspects of our lives, but perhaps the discipline of Biomedical Informatics is more affected than most, and is an area where the possible pitfalls of the technology might have particularly serious consequences. This book presents the papers delivered at ICIMTH 2023, the 21st International Conference on Informatics, Management, and Technology in Healthcare, held in Athens, Greece, from 1-3 July 2023. The ICIMTH conferences form a series of scientific events which offers a platform for scientists working in the field of biomedical and health informatics from all continents to gather and exchange research findings and experience. The title of the 2023 conference was Healthcare Transformation with Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, reflecting the importance of AI to healthcare informatics. A total of 252 submissions were received by the Program Committee, of which 149 were accepted as full papers, 13 as short communications, and 14 as poster papers after review. The papers cover a wide range of technologies, and topics include imaging, sensors, biomedical equipment, and management and organizational aspects, as well as legal and social issues. The book provides a timely overview of informatics and technology in healthcare during this time of extremely fast developments, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.

Book Synopsis The Role of Primary Motor Cortex as a Marker for and Modulator of Pain Control and Emotional-Affective Processing by : Jorge Leite
Download or read book The Role of Primary Motor Cortex as a Marker for and Modulator of Pain Control and Emotional-Affective Processing written by Jorge Leite and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sensory and motor cortical homunculi proposed by Walter Penfield were a major landmark for the anatomical mapping of the brain. More than 60 years after, the development of new tools to investigate brain function non-invasively has increased our knowledge about the structure and functions of the primary motor Cortex (M1) beyond motor control in both humans and animals. This book highlights the role of the motor cortex that goes way beyond motor functioning. We were interested in both theoretical and empirical contributions related to electrophysiological, pharmacological, neuroimaging, and neuromodulatory studies exploring the role of M1 on non-motor functions, such as pain, abnormal neuroplasticity that may lead to chronic pain conditions; or the relationship between M1 and mental imagery or emotion. This book is comprised of 15 articles published in this edited volume as a research topic collection in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience titled “The Role of Primary Motor Cortex as a Marker and Modulator of Pain Control and Emotional-Affective Processing.”

Book excerpt: There has been a rapid global increase in the number of individuals making sleep medicine their career, resulting in an explosive growth in the number of sleep centres and programmes, as well as an increasing number of sleep societies and journals. Part of the Oxford Textbooks in Clinical Neurology series, the Oxford Textbook of Sleep Disorders covers the rapid advances in scientific, technical, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of sleep medicine which have captivated sleep scientists and clinicians. This text aims to introduce sleep disorders within the context of classical neurological diseases, giving an in-depth coverage of the topic in a logical and orderly way, while emphasizing the practical aspects in a succinct and lucid manner. Divided into 12 sections, this book begins by discussing the basic science (Section 1), before moving onto the laboratory evaluation (Section 2) and the clinical science (Section 3). The remainder of the book focuses on specific sleep disorders (Sections 4-12), from insomnias and parasomnias to sleep neurology and sleep and psychiatric disorders. Chapters are supplemented by tables, case reports, and illustrations intended to succinctly provide relevant information in a practical manner for diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, while always emphasizing clinical-behavioural-laboratory correlations.
