Book excerpt: Founded in the Mahoning Valley during 1837, a tiny settlement of secular German immigrants grew into one of the most influential centers of Jewish life in the Midwest. Home to nationally renowned rabbis and Zionist firebrands alike, the community produced an astonishing array of leaders in an impressive range of fields throughout the twentieth century. This notable legacy ranges from the entertainment juggernaut of Warner Brothers to the Arby's fast-food empire and the prominent Youngstown Sheet & Tube, among many others. Authors Thomas Welsh, Joshua Foster and Gordon F. Morgan trace the unique history of one of Ohio's oldest Jewish communities from its humble beginnings into the challenging climate of the new millennium.

Book Synopsis Elementary Classical Hydrodynamics by : B. H. Chirgwin
Download or read book Elementary Classical Hydrodynamics written by B. H. Chirgwin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Classical Hydrodynamics deals with the fundamental principles of elementary classical hydrodynamics, with emphasis on the mechanics of inviscid fluids. Topics covered by this book include direct use of the equations of hydrodynamics, potential flows, two-dimensional fluid motion, waves in liquids, and compressible flows. Some general theorems such as Bernoulli's equation are also considered. This book is comprised of six chapters and begins by introducing the reader to the fundamental principles of fluid hydrodynamics, with emphasis on ways of studying the motion of a fluid. Basic concepts and quantities such as viscosity, density, and pressure, are considered, along with hydrostatics and the equation of motion. The discussion then turns to Bernoulli's equation, the motion of a small element of fluid, velocity potential, and the kinetic energy of a uniform incompressible fluid. The chapters that follow explore two-dimensional fluid motion; a uniform inviscid, incompressible liquid having a free surface and upon which the only body force acting is uniform gravity; and a compressible gas with undisturbed uniform pressure and density, paying particular attention to the propagation and reflection of sound waves. This book is intended as an elementary introduction to the mechanics of inviscid fluids for first and second year undergraduates.
Download or read book Pirate Philosophy written by Gary Hall and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Pirate Philosophy', Gary Hall considers whether the fight against the neoliberal corporatisation of higher education in fact requires scholars to transform their own lives and labour. Drawing on such phenomena as peer-to-peer file sharing and anticopyright/pro-piracy movements, Hall explores how those in academia can move beyond finding new ways of thinking about the world to find instead new ways of being theorists and philosophers in the world.

Download or read book Mythtym written by Trinie Dalton and published by Picturebox, Incorporated. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Writer and artist Trinie Dalton has said of her work, "The idea of contextualizing art by hanging it on the same wall is a fundamental one. My zines are literary/art/music history anthologies that follow a cross-genre salon style. They're parties on paper, and I want to be an exquisite host." Dalton's curatorial parties on paper bring together artists, musicians, critics, novelists, cartoonists, and other less-classifiable cultural producers. Mythtym compiles the greatest hits from previous zines, including Touch of Class about oh-so-sexy unicorns, and Werewolf Express about that savage canine mutant. It also premiers Mirror/Horror, a 100-page piece on the subject of mirrors: as symbols in horror stories, psychological metaphors, as material for psychedelic art and the disco ball."--BOOK JACKET.
