Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

With this end in mind, it has been divided into two blocks, as detailed below. Chapters 1 to 5 form the first block, which offers a framework based on the conceptualization, types and need to promote the brand. From there, brand equity and brand capital are studied in terms of concepts, characteristics and perspectives of analysis. Once stipulated, the main models of brand equity and brand capital proposed in the literature are detailed, deciphering the elements most commonly accepted in subsequent research and in the business field. Finally, these key elements are described, analyzing their characteristics, measurement indicators and strategic implications for the company. Chapters 6 and 7 form the second block, which provides a clear view of the concept and importance of the discipline of branding, as well as the need to understand how the human brain and heart work together with the soul of brands. From there, the importance of creating a brand culture in the organization is explained, emphasizing the commitment to the firm as a flag and developing an appropriate organizational structure to carry out the process of managing brands. Next, the importance of strategic management is examined, defining a proposal for a branding plan. Finally, we analyse the new trends developed in terms of brand, highlighting the importance of digital integration, the empowerment of human capital and the creation of virtual communities associated with it.

Book excerpt: This volume explores the ways in which knowledge and innovation impact business and economic sustainability, offering a wide-ranging and richly illustrated study of knowledge, innovation and sustainability of organizations from a dynamic capabilities perspective. In organizational theory, dynamic capability is defined as an organization’s ability to react and adapt adequately and rapidly to external change. In today’s global economy, pursuing sustainable strategies and practices is critical to organizational success. Complying with externally and internally imposed sustainability targets might initially appear as a restriction for organizations; however, they can be transformed into a new set of opportunities. This means that the classic ways in which management absorbs the experiences associated with evolving conditions, organizational frameworks and markets must be reconsidered in light of the preservation of the technological, environmental and social ecosystems. Featuring research and case studies from sectors such as NGOs, SMEs, education and agriculture, this book offers students, academics, practitioners and policymakers a multi-faceted understanding of how and why knowledge, innovation and sustainability are intricately linked—and offers insight into best practices that balance organizational and societal needs.

Book excerpt: Faced with chaotic environments, it is not possible to make totally efficient forecasts, especially when it is necessary to analyze events with multiple variables and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) constantly face events that escape the laws of the market. The handling that has been given to the crisis caused by the coronavirus has been trial and error, and the economic, social, and environmental results remain to be seen. The markets and the world are chaotic. With the markets in chaos due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to look at the methods used in these environments to promote business success. The Handbook of Research on Management Techniques and Sustainability Strategies for Handling Disruptive Situations in Corporate Settings elaborates on the skills, techniques, and tools that are more useful for these environments and identifies what makes companies that work well in organizational chaos and in chaotic economic environments perform better than companies that are well organized. Covering topics such as strategic management, multidimensional chaos approach, and the global unstable market, this book is essential for managers, executives, academicians, policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, undergraduate and graduate business students, and any person interested in state-of-the-art business issues.

This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for housing has increased significantly during the last decades all over the world. It is felt particularly in countries where the population growth rate is high and the economy is developing fast; but everywhere people are shifting from the countryside to towns, where housing in neighbourhoods often becomes critical. The need for affordable housing may concern high-rate urbanization, rural areas to be upgraded, workers’ settlements in remote regions, rebuilding dwellings destroyed by disasters such as earthquakes, floods or wars, and even holiday resorts and leisure dwellings. Large projects always face cost- and time-constraints. Local conditions may be variable with respect to the physical, social and economic environment. Thus, minimising cost and time of construction, while maximising quantity and quality of product, may lead to different solutions. The concept of “affordable”, meaning compatibility of demand and means, is well understood as such everywhere, although its practical application may be much different from place to place. Concrete is a material that lends itself well to affordable housing: it is durable, has good thermal inertia, can be used both as structural and finishing material, and is not sensitive to organic attack. It also has some disadvantages, such as higher cost in developing countries compared to developed countries, and also a potential lack of materials, mainly cement or admixtures. Prefabrication, with its adaptability and quality consciousness, may offer valid, speedy, cost efficient and sustainable solutions. fib Bulletin 60 offers an overview of housing systems as well as information on their features. It shows the main features of a number of construction systems, without entering into the details of the solutions. It aims to make possible a comprehensive comparison, which should help in learning, exchanging and developing ideas on how to better meet the housing needs everywhere, at sustainable cost. A document of this kind was not available before; it is therefore expected to be of great interest and a source of ideas for all those who have to confront similar problems.

This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the implementation of science, technology and innovation (STI) policy in eight Latin American countries and the different paths these policies have taken. It provides empirical evidence to examine the extent to which STI policies are contributing to the development of the region, as well as to the solution of market failures and the stimulus of the region’s innovation systems. Since the pioneering work of Solow (1957), it has been recognized that innovation is critical for economic growth both in developed and in less-developed countries. Unfortunately Latin America lags behind world trends, and although over the last 20 years the region has established a more stable and certain macroeconomic regime, it is also clear that these changes have not been enough to trigger a process of innovation and productivity to catch-up. Against this rather grim scenario there is some optimism emerging throughout the region. After many years of inaction the region has begun to invest in science, technology and engineering once again. Furthermore, after many changes in innovation policy frameworks, there is now an emerging consensus on the need for a solution to coordination failures that hinder the interaction between supply and demand. Offering an informative and analytic insight into STI policymaking within Latin America, this book can be used by students, researchers and practitioners who are interested in the design and implementation of innovation policies. This book also intends to encourage discussion and collaboration amongst current policy makers within the region.
