Book excerpt: Pre-University Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Pedagogy - Miscellaneous Topics, grade: Not Applicable, language: English, abstract: ICT creates a significant role in the development of any country. Great opportunities easily come along to anyone apt in this field. Thus, it is important for a nation to produce ICT literate citizens who will build the infrastructure required to survive in this digitally-age of society. In response to this demand, the Department of Education is continuously introducing ICT into its system. The Philippine government is also making all possibilities to provide technological advancement to its people. Remote places across the region are being reached to make sure that no Island is being left behind when it comes to technology. As the Philippine education embraces the technology, students are no longer solely relying on hard text for learning. Through DepEd, funded by the government and other partner institutions, learning processes are now transformed digitally. Now, students have access to thousands of learning materials uploaded in the DepEd - managed Online Learning Portal. This undertaking was strengthened by the creation of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), an executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the planning, development, and promotion of the country's ICT agenda in support to national development. Despite all of these efforts, the government through DepEd is still facing the biggest challenge in keeping innovative education in this quickly changing world.

Book excerpt: This volume explores the potentials of advanced technologies as they apply to education and training and looks at efforts to exploit these potentials in three areas: vocational-technical training, formal education, and corporate programs. An introduction, "The Age of Knowledge Work" (Emmanuel T. Velasco, Gayla C. Carreon), defines concepts--future work, knowledge workers, information superhighway, networks, interactive multimedia, and other terms that arise to describe rapid developments in the fields of information technology and electronic communications. It describes the changes that technology has wrought in the world of work and the effects that these have had on other areas. Chapter I presents a summary of the findings from surveys on the use of computer technology in the three sectors in the Philippines: "Using Computer Technology for Worker Education and Training (National Manpower and Youth Council Survey Results)"; "In Search of the Leading Edge in Formal Education (Philippine Association of Colleges and Schools of Business Survey Results)"; and "Computer-Based Training in Business and Industry (Philippine Society for Training and Development Survey Results)" Chapter II presents the sectoral action plans, as generated by groups involved in separate conferences of the three sectors. The three sections are as follows: "Using Computers as Skills Instructors: The Evolution of a Policy" (Rony V. Diaz); "Turning Classrooms into Interactive Networks" (Elizabeth S. Samia); and "Technologizing the Knowledge Worker" (Emmanuel T. Velasco). A conclusion, "A Policy Response to the Challenge: The Establishment of a Leading-Edge Educational Technology Center," provides a summary of a proposal to establish a national center to rationalize the adoption of leading-edge educational technologies. Appendixes include the following: House Bill No. 12328: An Act Creating the Leading-Edge Educational Technologies (LEET) Foundation, a congressional initiative with its basis in the proposal discussed in the conclusion; detailed results of the three surveys; a workplan for the establishment of the LEET Center; 25 endnotes; and author biographies. Contains 50 references. (YLB)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology acceptance can be defined as a user’s willingness to employ technology for the tasks it is designed to support. Over the years, acceptance researchers have become more interested in understanding the factors influencing the adoption of technologies in various settings. From the literature, much research has been done to understand technology acceptance in the business contexts. This is understandable, given the close relationship between the appropriate uses of technology and profit margin. In most of the acceptance studies, researchers have sought to identify and understand the forces that shape users’ acceptance so as to influence the design and implementation process in ways to avoid or minimize resistance or rejection when users interact with technology. Traditionally, it has been observed that developers and procurers of technological resources could rely on authority to ensure that technology was used, which is true in many industrial and organizational contexts. However, with the increasing demands for educational applications of information technology and changing working practices, there is s need to re-examine user acceptance issues as they emerge within and outside of the contexts in which technology was implemented. This is true in the education milieu where teachers exercise the autonomy to decide on what and how technology will be used for teaching and learning purposes. Although they are guided by national and local policies to use technology in the classrooms, teachers spent much of their planning time to consider how technology could be harnessed for effective lesson delivery and assessment to be conducted. These circumstances have provided the impetus for researchers to study technology acceptance in educational settings. Although these studies have typically involved students and teachers as participants, their findings have far-reaching implications for school leaders, policy makers, and other stakeholders. The book is a critical and specialized source that describes recent research on technology acceptance in education represented by educators and researchers from around the world such as Australia, Belgium, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States of America.

Book excerpt: Since the turn of the century, the impact of digital technologies on the promotion, production and distribution of music in the Philippines has both enabled and necessitated an increase in independent musical practices. In the first in-depth investigation into the independent music scene in the Philippines, Monika E. Schoop exposes and portrays the as yet unexplored restructurings of the Philippine music industries, showing that digital technologies have played an ambivalent role in these developments. While they have given rise to new levels of piracy, they have also offered unprecedented opportunities for artists. The near collapse of the transnational recording industry in the Philippines stands in stark contrast to a thriving independent music scene in the county's national capital region, Metro Manila, which cuts across musical genres and whose members successfully adjust to a rapidly evolving industry scenario. Independent practices have been facilitated by increased access to broadband Internet, the popularity of social media platforms and home recording technology. At the same time, changing music industry structures often leave artists with no other option but to operate independently. Based on extensive fieldwork online and offline, the book explores the diverse and innovative music production, distribution, promotion and financing strategies that have become constitutive of the independent music scene in twenty-first-century Manila.
