Book Synopsis Discovery of the First Leaking Double-Shell Tank - Hanford Tank 241-AY-102 by :
Download or read book Discovery of the First Leaking Double-Shell Tank - Hanford Tank 241-AY-102 written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A routine video inspection of the annulus space between the primary tank and secondary liner of double-shell tank 241-AY-102 was performed in August 2012. During the inspection, unexpected material was discovered. A subsequent video inspection revealed additional unexpected material on the opposite side of the tank, none of which had been observed during inspections performed in December 2006 and January 2007. A formal leak assessment team was established to review the tank's construction and operating histories, and preparations for sampling and analysis began to determine the material's origin. A new sampling device was required to collect material from locations that were inaccessible to the available sampler. Following its design and fabrication, a mock-up test was performed for the new sampling tool to ensure its functionality and capability of performing the required tasks. Within three months of the discovery of the unexpected material, sampling tools were deployed, material was collected, and analyses were performed. Results indicated that some of the unknown material was indicative of soil, whereas the remainder was consistent with tank waste. This, along with the analyses performed by the leak assessment team on the tank's construction history, lead to the conclusion that the primary tank was leaking into the annulus. Several issues were encountered during the deployment of the samplers into the annulus. As this was the first time samples had been required from the annulus of a double-shell tank, a formal lessons learned was created concerning designing equipment for unique purposes under time constraints.

Download or read book Acceptance Test Plan for the 241-AN-105 Multi-function Corrosion Monitoring System written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) will document the satisfactory operation of the corrosion probe tree assembly destined for installation into tank 241-AN-105. This ATP will be performed by the manufacturer prior to delivery to the site. The objective of this procedure is to demonstrate and document the acceptance of the corrosion probe tree assembly to be installed into tank 241-AN-105. The test will consist of a pressure test to verify leak tightness of the probe tree body, a continuity test of the probe tree wiring, a test of the high level detector wiring, a test of the operation of the Type K thermocouples along the probe body, and verification of operation of corrosion monitoring computer and instrumentation.
Book Synopsis Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection by : Karan Sotoodeh
Download or read book Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection written by Karan Sotoodeh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-09 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emission prevention and environmental protection are hot topics in the oil and gas industry and many countries, especially in the United States. Among sources of pollution in the oil and gas industry, storage tanks used to store products such as oil or liquefied natural gas (LNG) are considered the second most significant source of emissions after industrial valves. Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection provides the latest research and technological advancements in storage tank design including materials selection, welding, and techniques used order to reduce or prevent emissions. This book will detail essential information regarding inspections, testing, and maintenance that are performed to prevent the failure of storage tanks and will also explore the different types of storage tank emissions and provide recommendations for the preventive, as well as safety systems that are critical to minimize the failure of storage tanks. Researchers, engineers, industry professionals, and students in the environmental safety field will find this book to be a welcomed resource to learning about and working on storage tank emissions in the oil and gas industries. - Provides detailed understanding of the problems and hazards of emission in the oil and gas industries - Presents mechanical designs of storage tanks by considering various loads (e.g., axial, bending, wind, earthquake, etc.) to prevent failure - Details studies of corrosion assessment of storage tanks - Introduces safety systems in the oil and gas industries and the effect of tank selection on emission
