This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the snake in the Garden of Eden to the lost sheep in Luke’s parable, stories about fish and birds, rams and goats abound. We read about them, but they have no voice of their own. Here we allow the raven and the dove on Noah’s ark, the big fish that swallowed Jonah, and the donkey on which Balaam rode, to be the narrators of their own stories, to inform us and help us to re-imagine our stories. We learn something about the intrinsic value of all living beings, and something about ourselves.
Book Synopsis Creation, Character, and Wisdom by : Dave L. Bland
Download or read book Creation, Character, and Wisdom written by Dave L. Bland and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the traditional Christian engagement with environmental ethics too often begins and ends with Genesis, this project joins numerous recent efforts by biblical scholars to identify new foundations on which Christians can make ethical choices about creation. Wisdom literature, a largely untapped resource, offers a unique point of entry for environmental ethics. Despite their marginalization in ethical debates on the environment, the biblical sages have a great deal to say about the inseparability of God's creation and righteous living--observations that must then be brought into conversation with a host of contemporary disciplines. As the crisis of environmental degradation permeates the lived experience of more and more Christians, it is increasingly critical to have solid and biblically defensible foundations from which to make moral choices about the environmental behavior of individuals, corporations, and nations.

Download or read book The Sincere Milk written by Eldermarge and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those who like to read will agree for decades that the Holy Bible has been the #1 best seller everywhere books are sold. The whole world has a love-hate relationship going on with this ancient masterpiece. It is loved by many who readily and eagerly testify of its life-changing Good News (Gospel). For centuries, many have died for it. On the other side of the spectrum, you have those who vehemently detest and protest its very existence. They are those who might kill others because of it. The content of the Holy Bible has drawn a virtual line in the sands of time. Many have been known to set out, determined to prove the fallacy of its content, or, at best, call them old wives tales, only to end up as apologists themselves. No matter what your present position, you will find the unusual contents of this little, perhaps insignificant, book will cause you to reconsider your position. Selah. Stop and think about it!

Book Synopsis A History of the Bible by : John Barton
Download or read book A History of the Bible written by John Barton and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literary history of our most influential book of all time, by an Oxford scholar and Anglican priest In our culture, the Bible is monolithic: It is a collection of books that has been unchanged and unchallenged since the earliest days of the Christian church. The idea of the Bible as "Holy Scripture," a non-negotiable authority straight from God, has prevailed in Western society for some time. And while it provides a firm foundation for centuries of Christian teaching, it denies the depth, variety, and richness of this fascinating text. In A History of the Bible, John Barton argues that the Bible is not a prescription to a complete, fixed religious system, but rather a product of a long and intriguing process, which has inspired Judaism and Christianity, but still does not describe the whole of either religion. Barton shows how the Bible is indeed an important source of religious insight for Jews and Christians alike, yet argues that it must be read in its historical context--from its beginnings in myth and folklore to its many interpretations throughout the centuries. It is a book full of narratives, laws, proverbs, prophecies, poems, and letters, each with their own character and origin stories. Barton explains how and by whom these disparate pieces were written, how they were canonized (and which ones weren't), and how they were assembled, disseminated, and interpreted around the world--and, importantly, to what effect. Ultimately, A History of the Bible argues that a thorough understanding of the history and context of its writing encourages religious communities to move away from the Bible's literal wording--which is impossible to determine--and focus instead on the broader meanings of scripture.

Download or read book Uncomfortable written by Brett McCracken and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does your church make you uncomfortable? It’s easy to dream about the “perfect” church—a church that sings just the right songs set to just the right music before the pastor preaches just the right sermon to a room filled with just the right mix of people who happen to agree with you on just about everything. Chances are your church doesn’t quite look like that. But what if instead of searching for a church that makes us comfortable, we learned to love our church, even when it’s challenging? What if some of the discomfort that we often experience is actually good for us? This book is a call to embrace the uncomfortable aspects of Christian community, whether that means believing difficult truths, pursuing difficult holiness, or loving difficult people—all for the sake of the gospel, God’s glory, and our joy.
Download or read book The Debate written by James L. Lowther and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Debate picks up where The Group leaves off. Danny had finished his tense sessions with The Group, made up of self styled student philosophers. At the end of the final session Peter Grayson challenges Danny to a campus wide debate, scheduled for the first Saturday in March. Dean Moreland had approved of the debate. On a personal note, Danny spends a marvelous Thanksgiving with the Lowrys while Karen spends a very exciting and event fi lled week at the Carters for Christmas. Much drama ensues as Karen discovers that she looks amazingly like Dannys sister, Mary, and then Mary springs a Christmas shocker surprise on everyone. Meanwhile, Peter Grayson discovers that solid facts that support the naturalist position are few and far between. Because of this, the EU administration is furious that Danny was not soundly defeated in the campus debate on creationism vs. naturalism. They are even more furious when Danny is forced to reveal that he is planning to bring a Christian club onto campus. The tension that develops from this angst sweeps up the reader in the culminating chapter of the book, as one realizes what a great price must be paid by those who go into the elite venues of the world to be a witness.
