Book Synopsis A Guide to Mathematical Tables by : N. M. Burunova
Download or read book A Guide to Mathematical Tables written by N. M. Burunova and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Guide to Mathematical Tables is a supplement to the Guide to Mathematical Tables published by the U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences in 1956. The tables contain information on subjects such as powers, rational and algebraic functions, and trigonometric functions, as well as logarithms and polynomials and Legendre functions. An index listing all functions included in both the Guide and the Supplement is included. Comprised of 15 chapters, this supplement first describes mathematical tables in the following order: the accuracy of the table (that is, the number of decimal places or significant figures); the limits of variation of the argument and the interval of the table; and the serial number of the book or journal in the reference material. The second part gives the author, title, publishing house, and date and place of publication for books, and the name of the journal, year of publication, series, volume and number, page and author and title of the article cited for journals. Topics range from exponential and hyperbolic functions to factorials, Euler integrals, and related functions. Sums and quantities related to finite differences are also tabulated. This book will be of interest to mathematicians and mathematics students.

Book Synopsis Tables of Lamé Polynomials by : F.M. Arscott
Download or read book Tables of Lamé Polynomials written by F.M. Arscott and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables of Lamé polynomials presents tables of Lamé polynomials, which were calculated on the Ferranti "Mercury" machine at the London University Computer Unit in England. Lamé polynomials are solutions of Lamé differential equation, which is used in a number of different forms, including the "Jacobian form". A particular Lamé polynomial is specified completely (apart from a constant multiplier) by the type number, the value of N, and the position of the corresponding eigenvalue of h in the set of such eigenvalues. Comprised of three chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the theory of Lamé polynomials and the equations involved, together with their elementary properties and correspondence with other notations. The tabulated form of Lamé polynomials and the method of tabulation are discussed, and approximations in limiting cases are considered. The next chapter deals with the method of computation of the Lamé polynomials, including the calculation of the coefficients, eigenroots, and eigenvectors. The book concludes with a description of the instructions and terms used in the program using the PIG input routine on the Ferranti "Mercury" computer. This monograph will be of interest to mathematicians and mathematics students.

Book Synopsis Airy Functions And Applications To Physics (2nd Edition) by : Olivier Vallee
Download or read book Airy Functions And Applications To Physics (2nd Edition) written by Olivier Vallee and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-06-17 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressed mainly to physicist and chemical physicist, this textbook is the result of a broad compilation of current knowledge on analytical properties of Airy functions. In particular, the calculus implying the Airy functions is developed with care. In the latter chapters, examples are given to succinctly illustrate the use of Airy functions in classical and quantum physics. The physicist, for instance in fluid mechanics, can find what he is looking for, in the references for works of molecular physics or in physics of surfaces, and vice versa. The knowledge on Airy functions is frequently reviewed. The reason may be found in the need to express a physical phenomenon in terms of an effective and comprehensive analytical form for the whole scientific community./a

Book Synopsis Mathematical Functions and Their Approximations by : Yudell L. Luke
Download or read book Mathematical Functions and Their Approximations written by Yudell L. Luke and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Functions and their Approximations is an updated version of the Applied Mathematics Series 55 Handbook based on the 1954 Conference on Mathematical Tables, held at Cambridge, Massachusetts. The aim of the conference is to determine the need for mathematical tables in view of the availability of high speed computing machinery. This work is composed of 14 chapters that cover the machinery for the expansion of the generalized hypergeometric function and other functions in infinite series of Jacobi and Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. Numerical coefficients for Chebyshev expansions of the more common functions are tabulated. Other chapters contain polynomial and rational approximations for certain class of G-functions, the coefficients in the early polynomials of these rational approximations, and the Padé approximations for many of the elementary functions and the incomplete gamma functions. The remaining chapters describe the development of analytic approximations and expansions. This book will prove useful to mathematicians, advance mathematics students, and researchers.
Book Synopsis Special Functions in Physics with MATLAB by : Wolfgang Schweizer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook focuses on special functions in physics in the real and complex domain. It covers more than 170 different functions with additional numerical hints for efficient computation, which are useful to anyone who needs to program with other programming languages as well. The book comes with MATLAB-based programs for each of these functions and a detailed html-based documentation. Some of the explained functions are: Gamma and Beta functions; Legendre functions, which are linked to quantum mechanics and electrodynamics; Bessel functions; hypergeometric functions, which play an important role in mathematical physics; orthogonal polynomials, which are largely used in computational physics; and Riemann zeta functions, which play an important role, e.g., in quantum chaos or string theory. The book’s primary audience are scientists, professionals working in research areas of industries, and advanced students in physics, applied mathematics, and engineering.
