This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1921 edition. Excerpt: ...moment should extend on each side of a line drawn through the column center at right angles to the direction of the band at least a distance equal to thirty-five one-hundredths of the panel length, and bars in diagonal bands used as reinforcement for positive moment should extend on each side of a diagonal through the center of the panel at least a distance equal to thirty-five one-hundredths of the panel length; and no splice by lapping should be permitted at or near regions of maximum stress except as just described. Continuity of reinforcing bars is considered to have advantages, and it is recommended that not more than one-third of the reinforcing bars in any direction be made of a length less than the distance center to center of columns in that direction. Continuous bars should not all be bent up at the same point of their length, but the zone in which this bending occurs should extend on each side of the assumed point of inflection, and should cover a width of at least one-fifteenth of the panel length. Mere draping of the bars should not be permitted. In four-way reinforcement the position of the bars in both diagonal and rectangular directions may be considered in determining whether the width of zone of bending is sufficient. (m) Reinforcement at Construction Joints.--It is recommended that at construction joints extra reinforcing bars equal in section to 20 per cent of the amount necessary to meet the requirements for moments at the section where the joint is made be added to the reinforcement, these bars to extend not less than 50 diameters beyond the joint on each side. (n) Tensile and Compressive Stresses.--The usual method of calculating the tensile and compressive stresses in the concrete and in the reinforcement, based on...

Book excerpt: Concrete structures must be designed not only to be safe against failure but also to perform satisfactorily in use. This book is written for practising engineers and students, and focuses on design methods for checking deflections and cracking which can affect the serviceability of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The authors present accurate and easy-to-apply methods of analysing immediate and long-term stresses and deformations. These methods allow designers to account for variations of concrete properties from project to project and from country to country, making the book universally applicable. Comprehensively updated, this third edition of Concrete Structures also includes four new chapters covering such topics as: non-linear analysis of plane frames, design for serviceability of prestressed concrete, serviceability of members reinforced with fibre polymer bars, and the analysis of time-dependent internal forces with linear computer programs that are routinely used by structural designers. A website accompanies the book, featuring three design calculation programs related to stresses in cracked sections, creep coefficients and time-dependent analysis. The book contains numerous examples, some of which are worked out in the SI units and others in the Imperial units. The input data and the main results are given in both SI and Imperial units. The book is not tied to any specific code, although the latest American and European codes of practice are covered in the appendices.
Book Synopsis Concrete Structures, 3rd Edition by : Zahid Ahmad Siddiqi
Download or read book Concrete Structures, 3rd Edition written by Zahid Ahmad Siddiqi and published by Zahid Ahmad Siddiqi. This book was released on with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is prepared according to the 2014 ACI Code for buildings and AASHTO LRFD Specifications for bridges. The units used throughout the presentation are the SI units, however, the expressions and examples are also given in US Customary units in the starting chapters to keep continuity with the traditional system of units. It is tried that the three main phases of structural design, namely load determination, design calculations and detailing are introduced to the beginner. This book is useful with the 2nd part of the same book. After the printing of the first and second editions, the comments send by colleagues, fellow engineers and students are acknowledged with thanks. Suggestions for further improvement of the presentation will be highly appreciated and will be incorporated in the future editions.
Book Synopsis Reinforced Concrete Design by : Prab Bhatt
Download or read book Reinforced Concrete Design written by Prab Bhatt and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-05-02 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Setting out design theory for concrete elements and structures and illustrating the practical applications of the theory, the third edition of this popular textbook has been extensively rewritten and expanded to conform to the latest versions of BS8110 and EC2. It includes more than sixty clearly worked out design examples and over 600 diagrams, plans and charts as well as giving the background to the British Standard and Eurocode to explain the ‘why’ as well as the ‘how’ and highlighting the differences between the codes. New chapters on prestressed concrete and water retaining structures are included and the most commonly encountered design problems in structural concrete are covered. Invaluable for students on civil engineering degree courses; explaining the principles of element design and the procedures for the design of concrete buildings, its breadth and depth of coverage also make it a useful reference tool for practising engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly successful textbook has been comprehensively revised for two main reasons: to bring the book up-to-date and make it compatible with BS8110 1985; and to take into account the increasing use made of microcomputers in civil engineering. An important new chapter on microcomputer applications has been added.

Book Synopsis Worked Examples for the Design of Concrete Structures to Eurocode 2 by : Tony Threlfall
Download or read book Worked Examples for the Design of Concrete Structures to Eurocode 2 written by Tony Threlfall and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical design guide illustrates through worked examples how Eurocode 2 may be used in practice. Complete and detailed designs of six archetypal building and public utility structures are provided. The book caters to students and engineers with little or no practical experience of design, as well as to more experienced engineers who may be unfamiliar with Eurocode 2. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the Structural Eurocodes, with particular reference to actions on structures. Chapter 2 describes the principles, requirements and methods used for the design of members. This is followed by worked examples for the following structures: A multi-storey office building with three forms of floor construction A basement to the office building with three types of foundations A free-standing cantilever earth-retaining wall A large underground service reservoir An open-top rectangular tank on an elastic soil An open-top cylindrical tank on an elastic soil In addition to the design of all the elements, the analysis of each structure is fully explained. This applies particularly to the design of the basement, and the tanks bearing on elastic soils, for which specially derived tables are included in appendices to the book. The calculations are complemented by reinforcement drawings in accordance with the recommendations in the third edition (2006) of the Standard method of detailing structural concrete, with commentaries on the bar arrangements. This book can be used as a stand-alone publication, or as a more detailed companion to Reynolds’s Reinforced Concrete Designer’s Handbook, now in its 11th edition. The comprehensive treatment of the designs, and the variety of structures considered, make this a unique and invaluable work.
