Les sept articles qui sont présentés dans ce numéro spécial et qui ont été sélectionnés à partir des communications de SIGURA 97, portent sur trois thèmes représentatifs des avancées en recherche appliquée dans le domaine des SIG en Rhône-Alpes. Ces avancées répondent à des problématiques de niveau différent mais d'actualité. Comment améliorer la qualité et la mise à jour des bases de données géoréférencées ? L'analyse spatiale des risques environnementaux (avalanches, glissements de terrains, pollutions, etc.) permet-elle de mieux les gérer ? Comment le traitement de l'information géographique s'intègre-t-il dans un processus d'aide à la décision pour la gestion environnementale des territoires ?
