Book Synopsis Co-verification of Hardware and Software for ARM SoC Design by : Jason Andrews
Download or read book Co-verification of Hardware and Software for ARM SoC Design written by Jason Andrews and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-09-04 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardware/software co-verification is how to make sure that embedded system software works correctly with the hardware, and that the hardware has been properly designed to run the software successfully -before large sums are spent on prototypes or manufacturing. This is the first book to apply this verification technique to the rapidly growing field of embedded systems-on-a-chip(SoC). As traditional embedded system design evolves into single-chip design, embedded engineers must be armed with the necessary information to make educated decisions about which tools and methodology to deploy. SoC verification requires a mix of expertise from the disciplines of microprocessor and computer architecture, logic design and simulation, and C and Assembly language embedded software. Until now, the relevant information on how it all fits together has not been available. Andrews, a recognized expert, provides in-depth information about how co-verification really works, how to be successful using it, and pitfalls to avoid. He illustrates these concepts using concrete examples with the ARM core - a technology that has the dominant market share in embedded system product design. The companion CD-ROM contains all source code used in the design examples, a searchable e-book version, and useful design tools. * The only book on verification for systems-on-a-chip (SoC) on the market* Will save engineers and their companies time and money by showing them how to speed up the testing process, while still avoiding costly mistakes* Design examples use the ARM core, the dominant technology in SoC, and all the source code is included on the accompanying CD-Rom, so engineers can easily use it in their own designs

Book Synopsis High-Level Verification by : Sudipta Kundu
Download or read book High-Level Verification written by Sudipta Kundu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-18 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the growing size and heterogeneity of Systems on Chip (SOC), the design process from initial specification to chip fabrication has become increasingly complex. This growing complexity provides incentive for designers to use high-level languages such as C, SystemC, and SystemVerilog for system-level design. While a major goal of these high-level languages is to enable verification at a higher level of abstraction, allowing early exploration of system-level designs, the focus so far for validation purposes has been on traditional testing techniques such as random testing and scenario-based testing. This book focuses on high-level verification, presenting a design methodology that relies upon advances in synthesis techniques as well as on incremental refinement of the design process. These refinements can be done manually or through elaboration tools. This book discusses verification of specific properties in designs written using high-level languages, as well as checking that the refined implementations are equivalent to their high-level specifications. The novelty of each of these techniques is that they use a combination of formal techniques to do scalable verification of system designs completely automatically. The verification techniques presented in this book include methods for verifying properties of high-level designs and methods for verifying that the translation from high-level design to a low-level Register Transfer Language (RTL) design preserves semantics. Used together, these techniques guarantee that properties verified in the high-level design are preserved through the translation to low-level RTL.
Book Synopsis Verification Techniques for System-Level Design by : Masahiro Fujita
Download or read book Verification Techniques for System-Level Design written by Masahiro Fujita and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will explain how to verify SoC (Systems on Chip) logic designs using “formal and “semiformal verification techniques. The critical issue to be addressed is whether the functionality of the design is the one that the designers intended. Simulation has been used for checking the correctness of SoC designs (as in “functional verification), but many subtle design errors cannot be caught by simulation. Recently, formal verification, giving mathematical proof of the correctness of designs, has been gaining popularity. For higher design productivity, it is essential to debug designs as early as possible, which this book facilitates. This book covers all aspects of high-level formal and semiformal verification techniques for system level designs. • First book that covers all aspects of formal and semiformal, high-level (higher than RTL) design verification targeting SoC designs.• Formal verification of high-level designs (RTL or higher).• Verification techniques are discussed with associated system-level design methodology.

Book Synopsis System-level Test and Validation of Hardware/Software Systems by : Matteo Sonza Reorda
Download or read book System-level Test and Validation of Hardware/Software Systems written by Matteo Sonza Reorda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New manufacturing technologies have made possible the integration of entire systems on a single chip. This new design paradigm, termed system-on-chip (SOC), together with its associated manufacturing problems, represents a real challenge for designers. SOC is also reshaping approaches to test and validation activities. These are beginning to migrate from the traditional register-transfer or gate levels of abstraction to the system level. Until now, test and validation have not been supported by system-level design tools so designers have lacked the infrastructure to exploit all the benefits stemming from the adoption of the system level of abstraction. Research efforts are already addressing this issue. This monograph provides a state-of-the-art overview of the current validation and test techniques by covering all aspects of the subject including: modeling of bugs and defects; stimulus generation for validation and test purposes (including timing errors; design for testability.
Book Synopsis Computer System Design by : Michael J. Flynn
Download or read book Computer System Design written by Michael J. Flynn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The next generation of computer system designers will be less concerned about details of processors and memories, and more concerned about the elements of a system tailored to particular applications. These designers will have a fundamental knowledge of processors and other elements in the system, but the success of their design will depend on the skills in making system-level tradeoffs that optimize the cost, performance and other attributes to meet application requirements. This book provides a new treatment of computer system design, particularly for System-on-Chip (SOC), which addresses the issues mentioned above. It begins with a global introduction, from the high-level view to the lowest common denominator (the chip itself), then moves on to the three main building blocks of an SOC (processor, memory, and interconnect). Next is an overview of what makes SOC unique (its customization ability and the applications that drive it). The final chapter presents future challenges for system design and SOC possibilities.
Book Synopsis Open Verification Methodology Cookbook by : Mark Glasser
Download or read book Open Verification Methodology Cookbook written by Mark Glasser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-24 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional verification is an art as much as a science. It requires not only creativity and cunning, but also a clear methodology to approach the problem. The Open Verification Methodology (OVM) is a leading-edge methodology for verifying designs at multiple levels of abstraction. It brings together ideas from electrical, systems, and software engineering to provide a complete methodology for verifying large scale System-on-Chip (SoC) designs. OVM defines an approach for developing testbench architectures so they are modular, configurable, and reusable. This book is designed to help both novice and experienced verification engineers master the OVM through extensive examples. It describes basic verification principles and explains the essentials of transaction-level modeling (TLM). It leads readers from a simple connection of a producer and a consumer through complete self-checking testbenches. It explains construction techniques for building configurable, reusable testbench components and how to use TLM to communicate between them. Elements such as agents and sequences are explained in detail.
