Book excerpt: The photophysical properties of the +2 and +3 dinuclear complexes have been studied using fluorescence spectroscopy and time correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) lifetime spectroscopy. In addition, the +3 dinuclear Ru complex has been synthesized in an enantiomerically pure fashion and will be used to study the effect of intramolecular charge transfer on the optical response of these compounds by using circular dichroism spectroscopy. The optical activity of the mononuclear Ru(phen)2(phendione) precursor is retained in the A and A enantiomers of the +3 dinuclear Ru complex. It is proposed that these compounds may impart some of that optical activity to other nanomaterials.

This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclometalated Ruthenium (II) and RAPTA species were synthesized, characterized and evaluated on their photophysical properties and potential as anti-cancer agents. The binding affinity to yeast RNA of one of the newly synthesized compounds containing a thiophene group (LM5400) was compared to its literature precursor (Compound B) containing a phenyl group under gel electrophoresis. Results indicated that the bands of compounds; Compound A, LM3000, Compound B and LM5400 when incubated with yeast RNA, were similar to the control with the expectation of the band of LM5400 being more faint relative to the rest whenever samples were incubated for 24hrs. Photophysical experiments on cyclometalated ruthenium (II) compounds (CompoundA, LM3000, Compound B, LM5400) indicated that these compounds have an absorbance around 360 nm respectively but do not fluoresce due to extremely low emission values. Four hydrolysis studies were done on the cyclometalated ruthenium (II) species under various conditions and monitored via UV/Vis and H-NMR. Underall conditions, the absorbance and the NMR data the complexes with the j6-benzene ring (Compound A and LM3000) changed under aqueous and chloride solutions. In contrast, the absorbance of the complexes with the j6-cymene rings (Compound B and LM5400) only changed upon increased concentration. All compounds synthesized were characterized by NMR. Crystal structures were obtained for newly synthesized compounds, LM3000 and LM5400.

This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the discovery of nonlinear effects, both the theory and measurement techniques have been developed significantly, especially since the invention of the laser. However, structure-NLO property relationships for organometallics as well as their NLO mechanisms are far less explored than those of organic molecules and inorganic salts. The greater flexibility and exceptionally large NLO responses of organometallic compounds attracts chemists to this field. Modification of coordinated co-ligands in organometallic systems has influence on the NLO merit by introducing new electronic charge-transfer transitions, oxidation state and coordination sphere of the metal centers. In this work, the donor sets of the ruthenium complexes were modified from the most investigated (P-P)(P-P) to (N-N)(P-P) and (N-P)2 and a series of ruthenium complexes were synthesized and characterized. In Chapter 2, the study of the Ru(N-N)(P-P) complexes is detailed. Three bidentate diphosphine ligands (dppe, dppb and dppf) and one diimine ligand (tert-Bu-bpy) were selected for this study as the diphosphine and diimine ligands, respectively. Ruthenium halide and mono-alkynyl complexes were obtained successfully. Their optical, electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties were examined and are discussed. The formation of eta3- and eta1-butenynyl complexes was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Attempts towards bis-alkynyl complexes were made, but no conclusive evidence could be obtained to confirm the successful synthesis of this species. In Chapter 3, the focus of the work is the study of ruthenium complexes with a (N-P)2 donor set. Two iminophosphine ligands, 2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine (PPh2py) and 8-(diphenylphosphino)quinoline (PPh2qn), were selected for this study. The cis-RuCl2(N-P) complexes and the corresponding dimers were synthesized and characterized. Their optical and electrochemical properties were measured and are discussed. In Chapter 4, the quadratic and cubic nonlinear optical properties of organometallic complexes were explored by hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) and frequency-depentdent Z-scan techniques, respectively. The first hyperpolarizabilities of the ruthenium halide and mono-alkynyl complexes described in Chapter 2 were determined by HRS measurements. The second hyperpolarizabilities of some organometallic complexes synthesized by the Humphrey group and the collaborators were measured by the Z-scan technique.

Book Synopsis Designing Dendrimers by : Sebastiano Campagna
Download or read book Designing Dendrimers written by Sebastiano Campagna and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on dendrimers has exploded in the last 15 years, moving from the establishment of synthetic methodologies, particularly in the early years up to the end of nineties, towards sophisticated and wide-ranging applications. Dendrimers play an important role in many different areas, spanning from basic synthetic approaches to artificial photosynthesis, to medicine, to catalysis. The great potential of dendrimers is well-recognized by the hundreds of papers in the field and the increasing number of patents, and stimulated developments in other areas of knowledge, including new characterization techniques. However, some basic principles and methods still continue to give a unity to the field. Although several books on dendrimers have been published during these 15 years, the very recent progresses in new areas now requires a new point of view, trying to give a unifying and comprehensive outlook of the field. Since the first dendrimer was synthesized by Vögtle in 1978, dendrimers have experienced an explosion of scientific interest because of their unique molecular architecture. This resulted in over 5,000 scientific papers and patents published by the end of 2005. The proposed book will cover both fundamental and applicative aspects of dendrimer research. Chapters devoted to basic principles, synthetic methods and strategies, and advanced characterization techniques will be integrated by chapters illustrating the full potential of dendrimers in various fields, like artificial photosynthesis, multi-redox pool systems, diagnostics, biomedical and sensing purposes, design of functional nanostructures. Particular emphasis will be devoted to possible future developments.
