This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fisheries and Biological Data Preparation Workshop for the Shrimp and Groundfish Fisheries of the North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem (NBSLME) was held in Bridgetown, Barbados 23-25 October, 2018. The meeting brought together 14 participants including fisheries officers, government organizations and FAO. The main objective of the workshop was to provide training on data preparation for stock assessment purposes and fisheries status/trends monitoring, enhance capacities in fisheries data and statistics collection at the national and sub-regional levels, and review status of data collection for the shrimp and groundfish fisheries of the NBSLME. The current state of the Fisheries and Resource Monitoring System (FIRMS) stocks and fisheries inventories for the NBSLME was reviewed and updated with inputs from participants. Ongoing work on the Data Repository and Decision Support System (DSS) for the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems (CLME+) Project and its application in the NBSLME was presented and discussed. A template for recording fisheries and biological data of key species in the NBSLME for stock assessment purposes was reviewed by participants. Furthermore, for each country and fishery, participants reviewed availability of data including, inter alia, time series of landings and fishing effort, length frequencies and socio-economic information. Additionally, a review was made of the biological parameters (e.g. length-weight relationship, growth, maturity) available for key shrimp and groundfish species in the NBSLME and data gaps identified. Information on genetic studies on shrimp and groundfish species in the NBSLME region served as background for discussion on the stock structure

This book was released on 1997 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a product of the Ecoplata Project, a joint Canada-Uruguay project initiated by and coordinated through the Ocean Studies Program of Dalhousie University. This book is the most recent attempt to summarize the oceanography of the Rio de la Plata, the condition of its environment and the status of the white croaker fishery. The book contains current knowledge of its geologym hydrology and climate, oceanography, environmental quality, plankton and bentho, fish and fisheries biology, the artisanal croaker fishery, and prospects for its future integrated coastal management. The chapters are based and information provided by a team of 30 expert contributors from Uruguay and Canada. There a extensive bibliographies and and index. The book will be valuable reference source for the Uruguay-Canada Ecoplata Project and for the many public, governmental, educational, scientific and private sector groups interested in integrated coastal management for Uruguay and its coastal neighbours . It should also be of interest to many persons working globally in coastal oceanography and integrated coastal management.

Book Synopsis Aquatic Habitat Ecology & Conservation: Continental and Marine Ecosystems Connectivity by : Mario Barletta
Download or read book Aquatic Habitat Ecology & Conservation: Continental and Marine Ecosystems Connectivity written by Mario Barletta and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-10-23 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ‘Aquatic Habitat Conservation in South America’ Symposium occurred during the XXI Brazilian Society of Ichthyology Meeting. The proceedings were published as a special issue in the Journal of Fish Biology (vol. 89, Number 1, June 2016). In this special issue, authors provided an analytical overview of problems faced by the conservation of fishes and aquatic habitats of South America. Habitat loss emerged as the greatest concern for all South American aquatic ecosystems, with a long list of causes related to unsustainable development models. Based on this finding, we would like to extend this topic to other continents, different climates, fauna and flora around the world. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary overview of variables that influence flora and fauna distributions and shape their ecological interactions within aquatic ecosystems

All but a few species are illustrated. The volume also includes a biogeographical synopsis of the fishes of the Gulf of Mexico.
Download or read book Fishes written by Alfredo Carvalho Filho and published by Literare Books. This book was released on 2023-08-02 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first large-scale work that allows the identification of more than 1,000 species of coastal marine fish along the Brazilian coast, from the Guianas to Argentina. With the publication of "Fishes of the Brazilian Coast", Alfredo Carvalho-Filho fills a fundamental gap in the knowledge of fish worldwide. The author has participated in the Workshops for the Assessment of the State of Conservation of Marine Actinopterygii Species at the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation and gives lectures on Communications, Ichthyology and, among these, the one entitled "Biology and Marketing", with two disciplines so diverse gathered in a single presentation!
Book Synopsis Subtropical Convergence Environments by : Ulrich Seeliger
Download or read book Subtropical Convergence Environments written by Ulrich Seeliger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subtropical convergence regions in the southwestern Atlantic have a high biological productivity, and are important as nursery and feeding areas and as reproduction grounds for fishery stocks of subtropical and antarctic origin. This book represents the first multidisciplinary treatise of this large and complex marine ecosystem. It analyses how subtropical convergence and land-sea interactions influence the coast, and sea and their biota. Synthesizing the rapidly expanding information, it provides a comprehensive appraisal of the biological resources, an assessment of their sustainable exploitation, and an evaluation of oceanographic processes. An inventory of all marine taxa in the southwestern Atlantic is included as an appendix.
