Book excerpt: In this original short story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly, LAPD Detective Harry Bosch seeks justice for the forgotten NOTE: This file includes a preview of Michael Connelly's novel The Crossing. In "Switchblade," an anonymous tip puts Bosch on a case that has remained unsolved for decades, the vicious stabbing of a teenage boy whose body was found in an abandoned Old Hollywood restaurant. Cold cases are often the toughest: With no body, no murder scene, and no fingerprints, Bosch nevertheless gets lucky when DNA evidence from the murder weapon points to a known killer. But the DA insists that science alone is not enough - he needs the case to be bulletproof before he'll take it to court. Determined to speak for those who can no longer speak for themselves, Bosch has one chance to wrench a confession out of a cold-blooded killer, or risk letting him walk free for good. In this gripping, never-before-published story by "master of the crime thriller" (Huffington Post) Michael Connelly, Detective Harry Bosch quenches his thirst for justice and shows why he is "one of the most popular and enduring figures in American crime fiction" (Chicago Tribune).

The solar system will be annexed by the Chasta within the next thirty days. If humankind can't be the U.S. Army anymore, then it will have to be the Viet Cong. Disgraced Captain John Ryder gets a ship and crew and leads them into space as guerrilla fighters. Once clear of the system, they locate a place to hide between sorties and begin fighting. They strike from behind and shoot from cover. If they can't give them hell, Ryder and crew at least give them a hard time. The Chasta throw a ring of steel around the system as they close in on Earth, so Ryder pokes holes in it. They're on their own. No support. Naval vessels won't even recognize their callsign. They don't exist... but they're mankind's last hope.
Download or read book The Crossing written by Michael Connelly and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this "tense" thriller and #1 New York Times bestseller, Detective Harry Bosch teams up with Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller to track down a killer who just might find them first (Wall Street Journal). Detective Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD, but his half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller, needs his help. A woman has been brutally murdered in her bed and all evidence points to Haller's client, a former gang member turned family man. Though the murder rap seems ironclad, Mickey is sure it's a setup. Bosch doesn't want anything to do with crossing the aisle to work for the defense. He feels it will undo all the good he's done in his thirty years as a homicide cop. But Mickey promises to let the chips fall where they may. If Harry proves that his client did it, under the rules of discovery, they are obliged to turn over the evidence to the prosecution. Though it goes against all his instincts, Bosch reluctantly takes the case. The prosecution's file just has too many holes and he has to find out for himself: if Haller's client didn't do it, then who did? With the secret help of his former LAPD partner Lucy Soto, Harry starts digging. Soon his investigation leads him inside the police department, where he realizes that the killer he's been tracking has also been tracking him. Thrilling, fast-paced, and impossible to put down, The Crossing shows without a shadow of doubt that Connelly is "a master of building suspense" (Wall Street Journal).

Book Synopsis Skullcaps 'n' Switchblades by : David Lazerson
Download or read book Skullcaps 'n' Switchblades written by David Lazerson and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skullcaps 'N Switchblades has been an excited ride. The book has been reprinted six times and sold over 50,000 copies, which ain't too shabby considering it was first available only in Judaic outlets. But much more important than the numbers, are the letters and feedback I receive from the readers. Some tell me that they are "non-readers" and that this book was the first one they actually read cover to cover. Others tell me that they've reread the book several times throughout the years. One proud fan told me he lost count after reading it more than a hundred times! And I still get emails and notices on social media how adults are now sharing the book with their children and grandchildren. I'm excited to present this expanded version of the book. The original publisher decided to remove several episodes, as they mainly dealt with some negative encounters with various school administrators. I urged for them to be included in that the relationship between teachers and the admin, and in fact, between employee and employer, is a huge part of most people's working situations. It may even be the most important factor in determining whether you stay on or leave the job. Hope you enjoy the book and it gives you some laughs and inspiration. One huge thing I learned from my students is that we have far more that unites us than divides us. Wishing you all peace, love, and... soul!
