Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Elizabeth Wilms was very young, during World War II, her father was a prisoner of war, and her mother was serving as a slave laborer in the Soviet Union. She and her brother were placed in liquidation camps in Yugoslavia. But her family was blessed; they survived to meet again and later immigrated to the United States. In Blessed as a Survivor, she recounts her life story before and after World War II. Six-year-old Elizabeth was an ethnic German (Danube Swabian) living in the former Yugoslavia when, in the autumn of 1944, the victorious Russian army first arrived, followed by Tito's communist partisans, who treated them to a horrific "reign of terror." In spring of 1945, Elizabeth and her family were expelled from their home and placed in several different detention camps, where they were exposed to sickness, fear, terror, and starvation. They saw death everywhere. She and her brother experienced long years of separation from their parents and grandparents. They narrowly escaped being placed in a Serbian orphanage. Despite her lost childhood and dealing with many hardships that forced her to grow up quickly, she did not dwell on the past but instead moved forward. After arriving in the United States, she attended college and became a teacher the beginning of a new life. Blessed as a Survivor shares a story of hope and forgiveness that seeks to offer comfort and inspire other people who are struggling and who feel very alone.

A documentary of Rhonda Knight's story was just filmed by the Discovery Channel and it will air in 3 Countries in the Fall of 2013! Blessed Survivor is a MUST READ! This book is not just an ordinary book. It is an actual account of my surviving attempted murder and rape and as the cover depicts, being stabbed in the eye among other horrific things and it embraces my journey with the incredible challenges I faced that had me wondering if I was going insane or what! So yes it is a "true story" novel that will captivate you but yet it is so much more... It is divinely inspired and written to bring the reader into my reality and into the realm of personal and Spiritual awakening in your own soul. This book is not a book written just for women although a woman can relate to it and it is not written for other survivors only but it is inspiration to know you can make it too with proper direction and help as you follow the road map laid out in it. This book is not just for Christians even though it is definitely the love and grace of God that kept me and I am a Christian which I proudly yet humbly proclaim. You may be a person who doesn't know God or you may not understand a lot about Him but this book will bring you into a place of understanding and of witnessing His mercy and miracles in my life which can certainly joyfully manifest in your life as well. IT IS a book for EVERYONE that has compassion for another human being. It is also written for anyone who has faced any type of challenges in their own life whether on a small or large scale. And yes it is a book written for those who just love to read but don't be surprised if you have a life impacting experience from it. There is a reason you're reading this right now; God has a reason for sharing this part of my life with you. Read this book and if it ultimately blesses you then share it with others; lend it out, give a copy as a gift or tell them where they can purchase a copy of this book for themselves. Thanks and God bless you, sincerely from my heart... Blessed Survivor

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is a personal testimony of God's amazing and intimate work in my life. Despite a haunting childhood and struggles in my adult years, God has blessed my journey tremendously. Even though I have been a Christian for most of my days, there were decades that all I could see were the trials. I felt distanced from God, yet, at the same time I knew that He was my only hope. So I blamed myself for the disconnection and my many shortcomings. I tried hard to be a "good Christian" but continually failed, damaging my marriage and maligning my parenting. Counseling had helped some, but turmoil still raged within me. I sank increasingly deeper into depression and anxiety while striving to be everything I thought others expected of me. Yet, all the while God was conscious of my struggles. Even more, He was actively interceding on my behalf. Well before I was conscious of it, God was sustaining me through the turmoil and fortifying me for my biggest challenge to date. When I felt at my weakest, God proved faithful to His promise of comfort and strength. Not only did He carry me, He championed my victory over the hold that darkness once had on my past. In an amazing way that only God could orchestrate, He redeemed my existence and set me free with new found joy and purpose. I now feel His love, His grace, and His power in a way that I never could before. The journey was challenging to say the least, but I wouldn't trade this walk with God for anything. My hope is that those who read my story will find encouragement and leave its pages in awe of the Great Father God, Savior Son, and Empowering Holy Spirit, Who are worthy of all praise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Men and women embarking on the study of systematic theology quickly find themselves awash in a sea of unfamiliar theological terms, historical names, and philosophical "-isms." The Survivor's Guide to Theology is both a life preserver to help stay afloat and a compass to help navigate these often unfamiliar waters. While many books on systematic theology provide introductory material, still the reader is often forced to dive right into actual theology without adequate framework for understanding. Resources for building this framework are available but scattered. This unique book brings them together in one place. The Survivor's Guide to Theology is ideal for both introduction and review/reference. - The first part deals with the question, "What is Theology?" It addresses issues, categories, theory of knowledge, and more. - The second part surveys nine major theological systems. For each, the author provides history and background, overview of content and theological distinctive, and a critique. - The final part provides the reader with biographical sketches of significant theologians, a brief dictionary of common theological terms, and an annotated bibliography of major theological works.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black men in general and specifically in America are survivors. In the twenty-first century, strategies are needed to overcome the petulant and devious psychosocial racist hurdles yet remaining. A guide or handbook employs the "how to" in recognizing obstacles and the steps required to circumvent and overcome them. Black men must begin assuming responsibility and accountability for the chains of stagnation—spiritually, socially, psychologically—some are bound by. Black men have proven we can survive and thrive. But there yet remain many who need the assistance and how-to instructions and encouragement that this book enlists. Quoting the Bible, the sacrosanct word of God, God's word will not return unto him void of the purpose for which He sent it. He sent His Son, now it's time he sent you, survivor. Rise up, black man.

Book excerpt: The Pretty Pink Ribbon: A Breast Cancer Survivor's Hurricane Katrina Experience By: Joyce Washington Ivery The author was inspired to write this book as a result of her horrific experiences during hurricane Katrina. In March, 1989, Joyce Washington Ivery was diagnosed with breast cancer. One year later she had a saline implant placed in her chest cavity. The implant was removed in August, 2005, fifteen years later, and replaced with a tummy flap. While in the hospital, hurricane Katrina came along with its forceful winds and flooding waters. Joyce was all alone and forced to spend one night in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Amidst the thousands of people there, she and her cousin crossed paths; and he and his family drove her to Natchez, MS, September 1, 2005, where she has lived since that time. The challenges of salvaging whatever possible and moving to a new city and state were stupendous but not surmountable. In 1994, she organized Edna B. and Joyce Fay Washington Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. And on May 25, 2019, the Foundation convened its Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LAin celebration of twenty-five (25) years of service. The very first program organized by the Foundation was a support group – Sisters In Touch – which to this day still exists. Eighteen of the survivors who are actively involved shared their thoughts about how the group has positively affected their lives. Preceding each of the twelve chapters is heartfelt, descriptive poetry; beginning with “The Pretty Pink Ribbon” and ending with “Eight Forty Six”.
