This book was released on 1967 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most steam-electric generating plants located near the ocean use sea water as coolant for their steam condenser system. During observations of coastal surface water temperatures off southern California in December 1962 with an airborne infrared radiometer, a noticeable rise in surface temperature was encountered when near warm-water outlets of generating plants, and heated discharge appeared to diffuse over the surface layer.

Book Synopsis An Acute Viral Disease of Channel Catfish by : Nilola N. Fijan
Download or read book An Acute Viral Disease of Channel Catfish written by Nilola N. Fijan and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In epizootics of channel catfish virus diseasse (CCVD) at four widely separated fish farms in 1968, affected fry and fingerlings spiraled, hung in a vertical position with head at the surface, or were distressed. In various combinations were edema, hemorrages, and anemia. The disease had a peracute to acute course, and stress to the fish preceded most epizootics. The virus induced formation of syncytial cells in affected cultures, which is considered at present to be of diagnostic significance. Secondary bacterial infections were found in fish with CCVD. Columnaris infection masked the symptoms of the virus disease.
Book Synopsis Tests of Variations of the Abernathy Salmon Diet, 1970 by : Laurie G. Fowler
Download or read book Tests of Variations of the Abernathy Salmon Diet, 1970 written by Laurie G. Fowler and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1970 fall chinook salmon feeding trials indicated that dry pelleted diets were equal to moist pelleted diets with similar formulations. A superior diet was produced by reducing the ratio of dried whey product and wheat germ meal to 1:1 and eliminating cottonseed meal. This formulation feed at a 45-percent protein level was more efficient than other protein levels fed. Growth was not reduced when the soybean oil supplement was lowered from 6 to 2 percent of the diet. Two corn distillers' products that were substituted as partial replacements for dried whey product did not enhance fish growth. Storage of the Abernathy dry pellet at room temperature did not alter the nutritional adequacy of the diet.
Book Synopsis Operation of Abernathy Channel for Incubation of Salmon Eggs by : Allan E. Thomas
Download or read book Operation of Abernathy Channel for Incubation of Salmon Eggs written by Allan E. Thomas and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spawning and incubation channel constructed in 1959 on Abernathy Creek near Longview, Washington, has been used for seasons to incubate fall chinook salmon and chum salmon eggs. Survival of eggs from both species was higher than reported for other channels and controlled-flow projects. Studies included effects of sedimentation, egg planting density, and stage of egg development at planting on survival. In early experiments sediment in the upper sections substantially reduced survival. In later experiments, after the construction of a sand trap and settling chamber, survivals significantly increased.
Book Synopsis History of Salmon in the Great Lakes, 1850-1970 by : John Wilson Parsons
Download or read book History of Salmon in the Great Lakes, 1850-1970 written by John Wilson Parsons and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This history of the salmon in the Great Lakes describes the decline and extinction of the Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario in the 1800's; the failure to establish, by salmon culture, permanent or sizable populations of Atlantic or Pacific salmon in any of the Great Lakes in 1867-1965; and the success of plantings of coho and chinook salmon in the Great Lakes, 1966-1970 -- particularly in Lake Michigan.
Book Synopsis Alteration Tests of the Abernathy Salmon Diet, 1971 by : Laurie G. Fowler
Download or read book Alteration Tests of the Abernathy Salmon Diet, 1971 written by Laurie G. Fowler and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feeding trials using fall chinook salmon finglerlings were conducted at the Salmon Cultural Laboratory, Longview, Washington, during 1971 for the purpose of improving the Abernathy diet formula. The results indicated that cottonseed meal could replace a portion of the fish meal in the diet without reducing fish growth, but similar substitutions of wheat and corn gluten meal reduced growth. Fish growth was significantly increased when a diet containing 50 percent protein and 3,350 kcal per kilogram was fed as compared with a diet containing 45 percent protein and 3,350 kcal per kilogram. Soybean lecithin proved to be equal to soybean oil as a caloric source when fed at 2 percent of the diet. Two types of dried whey product with different levels of lactose content produced similar growth response. Reducing the dried whey portion of the diet to 5 percent did not affect growth, nor did methionine supplementation produce any effects. Anchovy meal was unsuitable as a replacement for herring meal.
Book Synopsis Tissue Changes in Puffers Exposed to Methoxychlor and Methyl Parathion by : Ronald Eisler
Download or read book Tissue Changes in Puffers Exposed to Methoxychlor and Methyl Parathion written by Ronald Eisler and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adult northern puffers were exposed for periods up to 45 days to either 30 parts per billion (ppb) of the organochloride insecticide methoxychlor, 20, 200 ppb of the organophosphorous insecticide methyl parathion, or to a combination of 15 ppb of methoxychlor and 10, 100 ppb of methyl parathion. These concentrations will produce approximately 5 percent mortality in 96 hours under the conditions of the experiment. Profiles were constructed on the effects of each insecticide on blood and tissue components. The visual patterns provided by these profiles suggest a means of identifying unfavorable environmental conditions before the appearence of obvious morphological or physiological changes.
