Book Synopsis From Riemann to Differential Geometry and Relativity by : Lizhen Ji
Download or read book From Riemann to Differential Geometry and Relativity written by Lizhen Ji and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the work of Bernhard Riemann and its impact on mathematics, philosophy and physics. It features contributions from a range of fields, historical expositions, and selected research articles that were motivated by Riemann’s ideas and demonstrate their timelessness. The editors are convinced of the tremendous value of going into Riemann’s work in depth, investigating his original ideas, integrating them into a broader perspective, and establishing ties with modern science and philosophy. Accordingly, the contributors to this volume are mathematicians, physicists, philosophers and historians of science. The book offers a unique resource for students and researchers in the fields of mathematics, physics and philosophy, historians of science, and more generally to a wide range of readers interested in the history of ideas.

This book was released on 1963 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long range effects caused by the moon and the sun are of primary importance in establishing the stability of highly eccentric satellite orbits. At present no complete analytical theory exists which can treat such orbits. It is shown here that Halphen's method of treating secular planetary effects can, by means of step-by-step integration, also be used to determine long range lunar effects in the motions of artificial satellites. Halphen's method permits the numerical integration of long range lunar effects can be treated by averaging the disturbing function over the orbit of the satellite. Halphen's method is applicable to the determination of long range ("secular") effects in the motion of minor planets over the interval of hundreds of thousands of years. We assume that no sharp commensurability between mean motions of the disturbed and disturbing bodies does exist. A complete theory of Halphen's method is presented in modern symbols. Goursat transformations and a summability process are applied to speed the convergence of series which appear in the theory.

Book Synopsis The Painlevé Handbook by : Robert Conte
Download or read book The Painlevé Handbook written by Robert Conte and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-07 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, now in its second edition, introduces the singularity analysis of differential and difference equations via the Painlevé test and shows how Painlevé analysis provides a powerful algorithmic approach to building explicit solutions to nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations. It is illustrated with integrable equations such as the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the Korteweg-de Vries equation, Hénon-Heiles type Hamiltonians, and numerous physically relevant examples such as the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, the Kolmogorov-Petrovski-Piskunov equation, and mainly the cubic and quintic Ginzburg-Landau equations. Extensively revised, updated, and expanded, this new edition includes: recent insights from Nevanlinna theory and analysis on both the cubic and quintic Ginzburg-Landau equations; a close look at physical problems involving the sixth Painlevé function; and an overview of new results since the book’s original publication with special focus on finite difference equations. The book features tutorials, appendices, and comprehensive references, and will appeal to graduate students and researchers in both mathematics and the physical sciences.

Book Synopsis Special Values of the Hypergeometric Series by : Akihito Ebisu
Download or read book Special Values of the Hypergeometric Series written by Akihito Ebisu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, the author presents a new method for finding identities for hypergeoemtric series, such as the (Gauss) hypergeometric series, the generalized hypergeometric series and the Appell-Lauricella hypergeometric series. Furthermore, using this method, the author gets identities for the hypergeometric series and shows that values of at some points can be expressed in terms of gamma functions, together with certain elementary functions. The author tabulates the values of that can be obtained with this method and finds that this set includes almost all previously known values and many previously unknown values.
Book Synopsis Advanced Complex Analysis by : Barry Simon
Download or read book Advanced Complex Analysis written by Barry Simon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comprehensive Course in Analysis by Poincaré Prize winner Barry Simon is a five-volume set that can serve as a graduate-level analysis textbook with a lot of additional bonus information, including hundreds of problems and numerous notes that extend the text and provide important historical background. Depth and breadth of exposition make this set a valuable reference source for almost all areas of classical analysis. Part 2B provides a comprehensive look at a number of subjects of complex analysis not included in Part 2A. Presented in this volume are the theory of conformal metrics (including the Poincaré metric, the Ahlfors-Robinson proof of Picard's theorem, and Bell's proof of the Painlevé smoothness theorem), topics in analytic number theory (including Jacobi's two- and four-square theorems, the Dirichlet prime progression theorem, the prime number theorem, and the Hardy-Littlewood asymptotics for the number of partitions), the theory of Fuschian differential equations, asymptotic methods (including Euler's method, stationary phase, the saddle-point method, and the WKB method), univalent functions (including an introduction to SLE), and Nevanlinna theory. The chapters on Fuschian differential equations and on asymptotic methods can be viewed as a minicourse on the theory of special functions.
Book Synopsis Algebra, Geometry and Software Systems by : Michael Joswig
Download or read book Algebra, Geometry and Software Systems written by Michael Joswig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of surveys and research papers on mathematical software and algorithms. The common thread is that the field of mathematical applications lies on the border between algebra and geometry. Topics include polyhedral geometry, elimination theory, algebraic surfaces, Gröbner bases, triangulations of point sets and the mutual relationship. This diversity is accompanied by the abundance of available software systems which often handle only special mathematical aspects. This is why the volume also focuses on solutions to the integration of mathematical software systems. This includes low-level and XML based high-level communication channels as well as general frameworks for modular systems.
