Book excerpt: TM 5-601 Technical Manuals contain instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and support of equipment. They typically include operational and maintenance instructions, parts list, and related technical information or procedures exclusive of administrative procedures. This TM applies to OSD, the Secretaries of the Military Departments, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities with the Department of Defense. Includes a list of applicable NIST, UFC, and DHS cybersecurity publications for consideration. Why buy a book you can download for free? First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it''s the latest version (not always easy). Then you gotta print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people - and its outta paper - and the toner is low (take out the toner cartridge, shake it, then put it back). If it''s just 10 pages, no problem, but if it''s a 250-page book, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. An engineer that''s paid $75 an hour has to do this himself (who has assistant''s anymore?). We look over the document and replace poor quality images by going back to the original source document. We proof the document to make sure it''s all there - including all changes. It''s much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book is published by 4th Watch Books and includes copyright material. Book excerpt: The study evaluated the economic benefits of monitoring and controlling various facility and utility systems at the Fort through the use of the UMCS. The UMCS is a utility monitoring and control system that utilizes several computer stations with appropriate application software connected by communication network systems (wire, radio, power line carrier or fiber optics) to a number of remote terminal units placed at various locations to perform the following functions: collect data, perform remote and local controlling functions, initiate alarm conditions, and report the information through the communication network back to the computer stations. The study resulted in a recommendation for the implementation of the Utility Monitoring and Control System at Fort Campbell under one project. The implementation of the UMCS project will save Fort Campbell $1,348,383 annually. The project will pay for itself in 3.65 years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Actors in the cyber sphere include countries’ armed forces, intelligence organizations, legal authorities, and natural and legal persons. Cyber War is defined as the intrusion by one state to destroy or disrupt the computer systems or networks of another state. It is defined as “the sort of warfare in which computer systems are employed to damage or destroy adversary systems” in the United Nations Glossary, in the same way as information warfare. Cyber warfare moves at a breakneck speed. It’s a global phenomenon that occurs before the traditional battleground. In order to counter cyber crimes and related issues, more studies needed to improve our understanding, inform policies and develop and strengthen cooperation between individuals, institutions and countries. All states need to take constitutional, legal, technical and administrative measures on cybersecurity. For this purpose, “national virtual environment security policies” should be developed and constantly updated. National information security should be given utmost importance. A cyber security awareness culture should be established and supported by regional and global international institutions and organizations. A common understanding on cyber security needs to be adopted at all levels. CONTENTS PREFACE PART 1. Book excerpt: This publication highlights the fast-moving technological advancement and infiltration of Artificial Intelligence into society. Concepts of evolution of society through interconnectivity are explored, together with how the fusion of human and technological interaction leading to Augmented Humanity is fast becoming more than just an endemic phase, but a cultural phase shift to digital societies. It aims to balance both the positive progressive outlooks such developments bring with potential issues that may stem from innovation of this kind, such as the invasive procedures of bio hacking or ethical connotations concerning the usage of digital twins. This publication will also give the reader a good level of understanding on fundamental cyber defence principles, interactions with Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and the Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (C3I) decision-making framework. A detailed view of the cyber-attack landscape will be garnered; touching on the tactics, techniques and procedures used, red and blue teaming initiatives, cyber resilience and the protection of larger scale systems. The integration of AI, smart societies, the human-centric approach and Augmented Humanity is discernible in the exponential growth, collection and use of [big] data; concepts woven throughout the diversity of topics covered in this publication; which also discusses the privacy and transparency of data ownership, and the potential dangers of exploitation through social media. As humans are become ever more interconnected, with the prolificacy of smart wearable devices and wearable body area networks, the availability of and abundance of user data and metadata derived from individuals has grown exponentially. The notion of data ownership, privacy and situational awareness are now at the forefront in this new age.
