Book excerpt: Sun-Clear Statement by Johann Gottlieb Fichte is an explorative and insightful look into transcendental idealism. This nonfiction book at times addresses the reader in an attempt to illustrate its most elusive points. Excerpt: "The following is therefore the real purpose of this work: not to secure any new sphere for the newest philosophy, but merely to secure a just place for it within its limits. This work itself is not philosophy, in the true sense of the word, but merely argument. Whoever has read and understood it from beginning to end has not thereby acquired a single philosophical conception, but solely a conception of philosophy..."

Book Synopsis Future-Proof Science by : Peter Vickers
Download or read book Future-Proof Science written by Peter Vickers and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is science getting at the truth? The sceptics - those who spread doubt about science - often employ a simple argument: scientists were 'sure' in the past, and then they ended up being wrong. Through a combination of historical investigation and philosophical-sociological analysis, Identifying Future-Proof Science defends science against this potentially dangerous scepticism. Indeed, we can confidently identify many scientific claims that are future-proof: they will last forever, so long as science continues. How do we identify future-proof claims? This appears to be a new question for science scholars, and not an unimportant one. Peter Vickers argues that the best way to identify future-proof science is to avoid any attempt to analyse the relevant first-order scientific evidence, instead focusing purely on second-order evidence. Specifically, a scientific claim is future-proof when the relevant scientific community is large, international, and diverse, and at least 95% of that community would describe the claim as a 'scientific fact'. In the entire history of science, no claim meeting these criteria has ever been overturned, despite enormous opportunity.

This book was released on 2021-04-14 with total page 6097 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of German thinker Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel represent the apex of German classical philosophy. It was Hegel who pounded out the dialectical methodology that shaped the doctrine of idealism into a fully formed and deeply thought-out philosophical system. For many philosophical contemporaries, the name Hegel is synonymous with the word philosopher. Friedrich Nietzsche once boldly stated that "Hegel is taste," and, speaking of Hegel, the thinker Vladimir Solovyov remarked: "of all the philosophers, only to Hegel did philosophy mean everything." The book includes the following of Hegel’s works: The Phenomenology of Spirit The Logic of Hegel Hegel’s Philosophy of Mind Elements of the Philosophy of Right The Philosophy of Fine Art The Philosophy of History Lectures on the History of Philosophy Lectures on the Proofs of the Existence of God
