Book Synopsis Recent Developments in Welding Thick Titanium Plate by : R. E. Monroe
Download or read book Recent Developments in Welding Thick Titanium Plate written by R. E. Monroe and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorandum represents a combined effort by the U.S. Naval Applied Science Laboratory, Brooklyn, New York, and the Defense Metals Information Center to summarize new information on welding thick Ti plate. Thick plate of Ti continues to be of interest to the aerospace and defense industries for possible use in submersibles, armored vehicles, large space boosters, high-speed aircraft, and for pressure vessels. This memorandum generally is limited to information on welding Ti plate that is (1) at least 1 in. thick and (2) that is not covered by DMIC Report 185, The Status and Properties of Titanium Alloys for Thick Plate, June 14, 1963. The general requirements for welding Ti are not repeated here, since they are well documented in references mentioned in the inroduction to the memorandum. Sections have been prepared to cover material developments, welding-process developments, weld properties, and residual welding stresses. (Author).
Book Synopsis New Developments in Welding Steels with Yield Strengths Greater Than 150,000 PSI by : Robert Melvin Evans
Download or read book New Developments in Welding Steels with Yield Strengths Greater Than 150,000 PSI written by Robert Melvin Evans and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report summarizes the advancements made in the development and welding of steels possessing yield strengths greater than 150,000 psi. Steels discussed include the medium carbon, low-alloy martensitic steels; low carbon alloy martensites; and nickel maraging steels. Almost all programs which have the objective of developing high-strength steels have an equally important phase concerned with filler metal development. Filler metals are also discussed. The new welding processes discussed are Narrow-Gap welding, electron-beam welding, plasma-arc welding, high-frequency resistance welding, electroslag welding, laser welding, and interrupted-arc (dip trasfer) MIG welding. Book Synopsis Beryllium Ingot Sheet by : Stanley W. Porembka
Download or read book Beryllium Ingot Sheet written by Stanley W. Porembka and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorandum deals with the fabrication of beryllium ingot sheet. Until recently, most beryllium products have been fabricated from hot-pressed powder materials. As a result of the development of sound castings of beryllium of sufficient size, beryllium ingot sheet can now be made. The greatest advantage of sheet from cast ingots as compared with sheet from pressed powder is increased formability. However, ingot sheet has lower strength, and work is underway to improve the strength without serious loss of fabricability. The purpose of this summary is to review the casting and fabrication procedures for beryllium ingot and the resulting properties of sheet materials. (Author).
Book Synopsis Production Problems Associated with Coating Refractory-metal Hardware for Aerospace Vehicles by : W. A. Gibeaut
Download or read book Production Problems Associated with Coating Refractory-metal Hardware for Aerospace Vehicles written by W. A. Gibeaut and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four coating processes have been scaled up to coat components of aerospace vehicles: (1) slurry, (2) atmospheric-pressure pack cementa tion, (3) vacuum pack cementation, and (4) fluidized bed. The principal advantage of the slurry process is its ability to coat limited access areas such as the interior channels of built-up corrugated panels. This makes the process ideal for coating spot-welded corrugated panels after they have been welded. The other three coating processes, which are vapor-deposi tion processes, are not so suitable for coating limited-access areas. When they are used for parts such as built-up corrugated panels, the individual parts (including rivets) are coated, then riveted together, and then the entire assembly is recoated. This shortcoming is off set by the fact that the coatings applied by the vapor-deposition processes are more protective at higher temperatures than are the slurry coatings.
Book Synopsis The Oxidation and Contamination of Titanium and Its Alloys by : J. M. Ferguson
Download or read book The Oxidation and Contamination of Titanium and Its Alloys written by J. M. Ferguson and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental programs concerned with the oxidation of titanium and its alloys are reviewed and results compared with those predicted by theory. Wagner-Hauffe theory is used as the primary basis for comparison, and its inconsistencies are pointed out. Fifteen binary alloy systems involving titanium are covered, as well as a few ternary and commercial alloys. A short section discusses the effects of oxygen or nitrogen contamination on the mechanical properties of titanium and its alloys. (Author).
