The study focuses onAlberta's hydrocarbon reserves estimates generated by the Alberta EnergyResources Conservation Board and the Canadian Petroleum Association sincethe beginning of hydrocarbon exploration in the province. Historical differences between the two estimate series are identified and discussed, with explanations for the differences provided where possible, although noattempt is made to assess the relative accuracy or quality of the series.

Book excerpt: This report represents the first phase of a study of the characteristics & economics of unconnected gas in Alberta. Wells associated with these pools are currently classified as either capped or suspended. The report has two components: an examination of the province's 59 largest unconnected pools, and a thorough investigation of all unconnected pools (2,514 in total) in a selected area in central Alberta. The report examines reserves, deliverability, capital & operating costs, and economic viability of exploitation. Overall results indicate what percentage of reserves in the unconnected pools should not be considered as reserves, due to either economic or technical considerations. The appendix includes a list of the gas pools studied.
