Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Austria to India, university administrators and public policy makers are grappling with the high costs of higher education. Comparing the models by which higher education is funded in the United States and seven other countries, developed and developing, the chapters of this textbook help identify effective financial strategies to meet fast-evolving demands. How can each nation and each institution achieve the right balance between quality and quantity, access and equity, need-based and merit-based aid, government funding and private endowments? In these nine chapters, case studies discuss the different approaches being taken and the varying results produced. This handbook on the finance of higher education is essential reading for college administrators, policy-makers and graduate programs in higher education administration.
Book Synopsis The Vocational Quest by : Helen Connell
Download or read book The Vocational Quest written by Helen Connell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-02-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government attempts in recent years to create a national system of vocational education and training have marked a profound shift both in educational policy and in underlying concepts of what education is for. Relations between schools and the working world are changing all the time and the implementation of ideas of vocationalism has forced a blurring of the time-honoured boundaries between educations concerned with concepts and training, or with skills. The challenge now is to define how the schools can give young people the foundations for life in a working world in which they are likely to have to change jobs and where work will fill a smaller proportion of their lives. The Vocational Quest maps the evolution of vocationalism in Britain in historical terms and examines how the particular forms that have come into being in the last few years compare with developments in other parts of the world, including Continental Europe, Japan, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. It argues for new forms of communication and partnership between formal education and training and the wider community, in which values will be shared and no one partner will win at the expense of others.

Download or read book Democratizing Higher Education Policy written by M.T. Sehoole and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written with the purpose of analyzing the challenges faced by the post-apartheid government in South Africa with regard to reform of higher education. It covers the apartheid context of higher education, resistance to the system and its ultimate demise, democratic processes in post-apartheid reform agenda and how this agenda was emptied of its radical content as a result of global and local pressures. Highlighted are key constraints in the reform process, including the compromise pact agreed upon between the apartheid government and the ruling African National Congress, the rapidly globalizing environment underpinned by neoliberal principles within which South Africa's transition took place, shifts in macro-economic policies of government towards neo-liberal policy, the inheritance of the bureaucracy and the inexperience of new government officials. These are presented in a narrative style that combines the author's experience, the voices of key players involved and important data from a range of documentary sources. This is the first single authored book in post-apartheid South African that has systematically looked at higher education reform.

Tilak); "A Chinese Model of Higher Education? Lessons from Reality" (Kai-ming Cheng); and"Equity, Access and Excellence in South Africa Higher Education" (Pundy Pillay).
