Book excerpt: Airborne noise and structure borne vibrations of 6310 size bearings were investigated on the bearing vibration tester for bearings with 25 to 100 mm bore. The relationships between amplitude and speed and between airborne noise and structure borne vibrations are shown. Structure borne vibrations and airborne noise measured in absolute units, (microinches/second velocity and absolute acoustical decibels of 6305 and 6310 size bearings are compared. The effect of housing mass on bearing frequencies is displayed. A discussion of the results is given. (Author).

Book excerpt: A discussion is given of the vibrations induced by the variable compliance of a radially loaded bearing and of vibrations from other sources operating at the ''ball passage'' frequency. Narrow band low frequency vibration spectra (up to 200 cps) are shown and interpreted with em phasis on discrete frequencies that can be ex plained by bearing kinematics. A detailed ex perimental investigation was conducted of the amplitudes occurring under various loads at the ball passage frequency and its second harmonic. It is shown that the results are in excess of the amplitudes predicted theoretically at these fre quencies. A discussion is presented regarding the relative importance of several causes of low frequency vibration. Tests are reported on the effect of fit between bearing O.D. and hous ing on the vibrations observed at the housing O.D.

Book excerpt: A study is made to determine the characteristics of both rolling contact and sliding surface bearings that contribute to noise and vibration generation and transmission and the corrective steps and specifications necessary to reduce such troublesome noise and vibration. Both the single-row, radial deep-groove ball bearing and the full-film lubricated journal bearing are considered. The frequencies and magnitudes of vibration producing disturbing forces are determined for both types of bearing as associated with the inherent operating characteristics, the geometrical imperfections of bearing components, the design, and the use in the particular application. Book excerpt: Part of the fifth edition of the classic Rolling Bearing Analysis, this book builds a basic understanding of the fundamentals underlying the use, design, and performance of rolling bearings. It serves as a stand-alone introduction cutting across the array of disciplines necessary to evaluate and comprehend the performance and behavior of all types of rolling bearings. The authors derive the mathematics and theories underlying catalog values given by manufacturers and lead you from the various types of bearings through bearing geometry, applied loading, internal load distribution, deformation, functional performance, and structural materials. It makes an ideal introductory textbook as well as a practical field reference for professionals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide-ranging treatment of fundamental rotordynamics in order to serve engineers with the necessary knowledge to eliminate various vibration problems. New to this edition are three chapters on highly significant topics: Vibration Suppression - The chapter presents various methods and is a helpful guidance for professional engineers. Magnetic Bearings - The chapter provides fundamental knowledge and enables the reader to realize simple magnetic bearings in the laboratory. Some Practical Rotor Systems - The chapter explains various vibration characteristics of steam turbines and wind turbines. The contents of other chapters on Balancing, Vibrations due to Mechanical Elements, and Cracked Rotors are added to and revised extensively. The authors provide a classification of rotating shaft systems and general coverage of key ideas common to all branches of rotordynamics. They offers a unique analysis of dynamical problems, such as nonlinear rotordynamics, self-excited vibration, nonstationary vibration, and flow-induced oscillations. Nonlinear resonances are discussed in detail, as well as methods for shaft stability and various theoretical derivations and computational methods for analyzing rotors to determine and correct vibrations. This edition also includes case studies and problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rotordynamics are of great importance in the design, manufacture and assembly of turbomachines as well as in ensuring their safe operation. Also important are the dynamics of the foundation and its interaction with the dynamics of the rotor. This book is divided into four parts. Following a presentation of the basic theory the dynamics of rotors supported on several bearings. The third part describes the dynamics of foundations of turbine line-outs and the calculations for a turbomachine coupled with its foundation. The last part includes a section on estimation procedures, a comprehensive presentation of the theoryand practice of rotors having a transverse crack, a section on the mathematical fundamentals and a description of the computer program used for the examples in the book. The book addresses both the practical engineer and the theoretician and should provide manufacturers, operators, university and polytechnic lecturers and students with an understanding of the vibrations of turbomachines. The results are described in such a way that they can be easily understood and applied.
