Book Synopsis Activated Carbon for Water and Wastewater Treatment by : Ferhan Cecen
Download or read book Activated Carbon for Water and Wastewater Treatment written by Ferhan Cecen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-19 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides comprehensive coverage of technologies which integrate adsorption and biological processes in water and wastewater treatment. The authors provide both an introduction to the topic as well as a detailed discussion of theoretical and practical considerations. After a review of the basics involved in the chemistry, biology and technology of integrated adsorption and biological removal, they discuss the setup of pilot- and full-scale treatment facilities, covering powdered as well as granular activated carbon. They elucidate the factors that influence the successful operation of integrated systems. Their discussion on integrated systems expands from the effects of environmental to the removal of various pollutants, to regeneration of activated carbon, and to the analysis of such systems in mathematical terms. The authors conclude with a look at future needs for research and develoment. A truly valuable resource for environmental engineers, environmental and water chemists, as well as professionals working in water and wastewater treatment.

Book Synopsis Pesticide Removal by Combined Ozonation and Granular Activated Carbon Filtration by : Ervin Orlandini

This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research aimed to identify and understand mechanisms thar underlie the beneficial effect of ozonation on removal of pesticides and other micropollutants by Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filtration. This allows optimization of the combination of these two processes, termed Biological Activated Carbon filtration. The study concluded that ozonation significantly improves removal of atrazine by GAC filtration not only due to the wellknown effect of oxidation of atrazine, but also due to the effect of partical oxidation of Background Organic Matter (BOM) present in water. Ozone-induced oxidation of BOM was found to improve adsorption of atrazine in GAC filters. Biodegradation of atrazine in these filters wasnot demonstrated. Higher GAC's adsorption capacity for atrazine and faster atrazine's mass transfer in filters with ozonated rather than non-ozonated influent were explained as due to ozonated BOM. Both can be attributed to enhanced biodegradability and reduced adsorbsbility of partially ozidated BOM compounds, resulting in their increased biodegradation and decreased adsorption in GAC filters.

Download or read book In Situ Regeneration of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) for Natural Organic Matter (NOM) Removal written by Rohiniben Patel and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Sequentially-loaded and regenerated granular activated carbon (GAC) was studied to determine the efficiency of regenerative materials to restore the adsorption capacity. GAC was loaded with the Bray pond water containing natural organic matter (NOM) using rapid small scale column test (RSSCT) column. The exhausted carbon was NOM was then regenerated with different regenerants, and regenerated carbon was again reloaded with Bray pond water. The regeneration process was done in situ. Eight regenerants were used for this purpose and they were compared based on their regeneration efficiency. The most effective regenerant observed was acetic acid"--Abstract, leaf iii.

Book Synopsis In-situ Regeneration of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Using Fenton's Regents by : Robert G. Arnold
Download or read book In-situ Regeneration of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Using Fenton's Regents written by Robert G. Arnold and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fenton-dependent recovery o fcarbon initially saturated with one of several chlorinated aliphatic contaminants was studied in batch and continuous-flow reactors. A specialty carbon, URV-MOD 1 (Calgon) was employed to minimize non-productive H2O2 demand - that which does not yield hydroxyl or superoxide radicals. Because the reductive reaction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) limits the overall rate of radical generation via Fenton's mechanism, it was hypothesized that steps designed to increase the rate of ferrous iron generation would accelerate Fenton-dependent contaminant destruction, enhancing carbon recovery kinetics. Homogeneous-phase experiments were designed to establish the effects on PCE destruction kinetics of total iron concentration and additions of NH2OH, various quinones or copper to the Fenton mixtures.
