This book was released on 1962 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cottonseed oil, syntheic triglycerides, lecithin, Pluronic F68, Drewmulse 5998A, and Lipal 4P were studied by gas chromatography, thin layer chromatography (TLC), and column chromatography to develop methods of detecting and estimating the vrious major and minor components present in these aterials. GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY SHOWS PRESENCE OF UNEXPECTED QUANTITIES OF RELATIVELY VOLATILE IMPURITIES IN COTTONSEED OIL. Commercially available triglycerides show major impurities by TLC and gas chromatography. It is possible to prepare triglycerides free of all of these impurities. Gas chromatography was used to show the presence of relatively volatile components in Pluronic F68. The liquid (monoester) fraction of rewmulse 5998A contains considerable amouns of several components of varying polarity and probably different chemcal nature, based on exmination by TLC. TLC examination of the liquid (monoester) fraction of Lipal 4P shows at least five subsidiary components. A cobination of column chromatography and thin layer chromatography proceures may be used as the basis for quantitative estimtes of the cephalin, lipositol and lysolecithin content of purified lecithin of the type used in intravenous emusions.
