This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research findings of my M.sc (Plant Pathology) work has been presented in this book. The research was conducted at CCS Haryana Agri. University in Hisar, Haryana, India. The key objectives of the research was to study the effect of the fungus Sclerotium rolfsii on seed germination and seedling vigour of sunflower hybrids and secondly to manage the disease collar rot caused by fungus Sclerotium rolfsii through host resistance, fungicides and bioagents. Sunflower is an oil producing crop and is cultivated all over the world. Sunflower oil is preferred among the consumer's due to its health appeal worlwide. Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. is a well-known polypagous, ubiquitous, omnivorous and most destructive soil borne pathogen and causes one of the most destructive disease of sunflower worldwide known as collar/stem rot which highly results in yield loss. Therefore, every effort has been taken to study the few key aspects in relation to the pathogen and its effect on sunflower plant growth and yield losses and possible effective ways of managing the fungus to minimize the losses.

Book Synopsis Rhizosphere Microbes by : Sushil Kumar Sharma
Download or read book Rhizosphere Microbes written by Sushil Kumar Sharma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants create a dynamic micro-biosphere in the soil, around the roots, called as ‘rhizosphere’, which harbors diverse number of microorganisms for sustaining their growth and development. A soil with diverse and multi-traits microbial communities is considered healthy to enhance crop productivity. In the last decades, rhizosphere biology has gained attention due to unraveling of new mechanisms, processes and molecules in the rhizosphere that contributes towards the promotion of plant productivity. The rhizospheric microbes and associated processes are being utilized for harnessing potential of soils in effective and sustainable functioning in the agro-ecosystems. Broadly, the book discusses rhizospheric microbes and their role in modulating functions of soil and crop plant. Specifically, it highlights conventional and modern aspects of rhizosphere microbes such as – microbiome in the rhizosphere, microbes as an indicator and promoter of soil health, rhizosphere microbes as biofertilizer, biostimulator and biofortifyer, microbial signaling in the rhizosphere, recent tools in deciphering rhizobiome, and regulatory mechanisms for commercialization of biofertilizer, biopesticide and biostimulator. The book is useful for agriculture scientist, biotechnologist, plant pathologist, mycologist, and microbiologist, farming community, scientist of R&D organization, as well as teaching community, researcher and student and policy maker.
Book Synopsis Current Trends in Plant Disease Diagnostics and Management Practices by : Pradeep Kumar
Download or read book Current Trends in Plant Disease Diagnostics and Management Practices written by Pradeep Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant diseases play an important role on our daily lives. Most of plant diseases are visible and are caused by biotic and/or abiotic factors. Symptoms are usually the results of a morphological change, alteration or damage to plant tissue and/or cells due to an interference of the plant’s metabolism. All basic structures of vascular plants are subject to attack by pathogens. The failure in accurate disease diagnosis and management may lead to huge losses in plant production and related commodities, which causes nutritional food scarcity. Typically, the appearance of a biotic symptom will indicate the relatively late stage of an infection and/or colonization of a pathogen. Expert detection, accurate diagnosis, and timely management play a significant role in keeping plants free from pathogens. In this book expert scholars share their research knowledge and key literature which are vital toward the diagnosis of plant diseases across the globe, addressing traditional plant pathology techniques, as well as advanced molecular diagnostic approach.
