Book Synopsis Organocatalytic Approaches to Asymmetric Oxidation by : Schone Olga
Download or read book Organocatalytic Approaches to Asymmetric Oxidation written by Schone Olga and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work describes the development of enantioselective oxidation reactions of carbonyl compounds using covalent organocatalysis. In the first part, asymmetric epoxidation of -branched, -unsaturated aldehydes with aqueous hydrogen peroxide is presented. An exceptionally synergistic combination of a primary cinchona alkaloid-derived amine and a chiral BINOL-derived phosphoric acid was found to promote the reaction with excellent enantiocontrol for a wide variety of, -disubstituted and -monosubstituted enals. Conformational analysis of catalytically relevant intermediates using NMR and computational techniques enabled the rationalization of the absolute stereochemistry of products. The second part of this book describes a highly efficient direct catalytic asymmetric -benzoyloxylation of cyclic ketones. The same primary amine paired with an inorganic acid was found to be an effective catalyst for a wide range of substrates. The methodology was applied to the first asymmetric synthesis of (+)-2,4-dihydroxy-1,8-cineole, a predicted terpenoid metabolite in mammals."

Download or read book Heterogeneous Catalysis in Sustainable Synthesis written by Bela Torok and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-09-17 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterogeneous Catalysis in Sustainable Synthesis is a practical guide to the use of solid catalysts in synthetic chemistry that focuses on environmentally benign applications. Collating essential information on solid catalysts into a single volume, it reveals how the efficient use of heterogeneous catalysts in synthetic chemistry can support sustainable applications. Beginning with a review of the fundamentals of heterogeneous catalytic synthesis, the book then explores the basic concepts of heterogeneous catalytic reactions from adsorption to catalyst poisons, the use of non-traditional activation methods, recommended solvents, the major types of both metal and non-metal solid catalysts, and applications of these catalysts in sustainable synthesis. Based on the extensive experience of its expert author, this book aims to encourage and support synthetic chemists in using solid catalysts in their own work, while also highlighting the important link between heterogeneous catalysis and sustainability to all those interested. Combines foundational knowledge with a focus on practical applications Organizes information by reaction type, allowing readers to easily find examples of how to carry out specific reaction types with solid catalysts Highlights emerging areas such as nanoparticle catalysis and metal-organic framework (MOF) based catalysts

Book Synopsis Model Catalytic Oxidation Studies Using Supported Monometallic and Heterobimetallic Oxides by :
Download or read book Model Catalytic Oxidation Studies Using Supported Monometallic and Heterobimetallic Oxides written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research program is directed toward a more fundamental understanding of the effects of catalyst composition and structure on the catalytic properties of metal oxides. Metal oxide catalysts play an important role in many reactions bearing on the chemical aspects of energy processes. Metal oxides are the catalysts for water-gas shift reactions, methanol and higher alcohol synthesis, isosynthesis, selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxides, and oxidation of hydrocarbons. A key limitation to developing insight into how oxides function in catalytic reactions is in not having precise information of the surface composition under reaction conditions. To address this problem we have prepared oxide systems that can be used to study cation-cation effects and the role of bridging ( -O- ) and/or terminal (=O) surface oxygen anion ligands in a systematic fashion. Since many oxide catalyst systems involve mixtures of oxides, we selected a model system that would permit us to examine the role of each cation separately and in pairwise combinations. Organometallic molybdenum and tungsten complexes were proposed for use, to prepare model systems consisting of isolated monomeric cations, isolated monometallic dimers and isolated bimetallic dimers supported on silica and alumina. The monometallic and bimetallic dimers were to be used as models of more complex mixed- oxide catalysts. Our current program was to develop the systems and use them in model oxidation reactions.
