This book was released on 1973 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integral boundary-layer method is examined for its applicability to unsteady turbulent boundary layers. The method employs an analytical velocity profile formulation modeled after the law of the wall and the law of the wake and recently applied successfully to calculation of steady separated turbulent boundary layers. Analytical solutions developed from a small perturbation analysis indicate the method is valid for unsteady flow over a certain range of frequencies. Good comparisons were obtained between the linearized theory and results produced by a finite-difference solution of the complete nonlinear unsteady boundary-layer equations. Examination of the nature of the integral equations in the vicinity of a point of zero wall shear stress indicates that that point does not necessarily correspond to a point of separation in unsteady flow. That result is also consistent with the results of other researchers. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results are presented of a series of computational experiments aimed at studying the characteristics of time-dependent turbulent boundary layers with embedded reversed-flow regions. A calculation method developed earlier was extended to boundary layers with reversed flows for this purpose. The calculations were performed for an idealized family of external velocity distributions, and covered a range of degrees of unsteadiness. The results confirmed those of previous studies in demonstrating that the point of flow reversal is nonsingular in a time-dependent boundary layer. A singularity was observed to develop downstream of reversal, under certain conditions, accompanied by the breakdown of the boundary-layer approximations. A tentative hypothesis was advanced in an attempt to predict the appearance of the singularity, and is shown to be consistent with the calculated results.
Book Synopsis Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers by : Tuncer Cebeci
Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Synopsis Integral Methods in the Theory of the Boundary Layer by : Lev Gerasimovich Loĭt͡si͡anskiĭ
Download or read book Integral Methods in the Theory of the Boundary Layer written by Lev Gerasimovich Loĭt͡si͡anskiĭ and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of the well-known basic principle of mechanics, the principle of Jourdain, to problems of the theory of the boundary layer leads to an equation from which the equations of Von Karman, Leibenson, and Golubev are derived as special cases. The given equation may be employed in other integral methods. The present paper deals with the method of the variation of the thickness of the boundary layer. A number of new approximate formulas valuable in aerodynamic calculations for the fristion distribution are derived from this procedure. The method has been applied only to laminar boundary layers, but it seems probable that it may be generalized to include turbulent layers as well.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics by : Bernhard Stoevesandt
Download or read book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Stoevesandt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides both a comprehensive overview and deep insights on the state-of-the-art methods used in wind turbine aerodynamics, as well as their advantages and limits. The focus of this work is specifically on wind turbines, where the aerodynamics are different from that of other fields due to the turbulent wind fields they face and the resultant differences in structural requirements. It gives a complete picture of research in the field, taking into account the different approaches which are applied. This book would be useful to professionals, academics, researchers and students working in the field.

Download or read book Integral Solution of Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layers Using Improved Velocity Profiles written by David L. Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shear-work integral method is developed for calculating compressible turbulent boundary layers on planar or axisymmetric bodies. This method differs from other integral techniques primarily in the velocity profile and the velocity-temperature relation used. The velocity profile is an analytical expression that depends on the local values of skin friction, shape factor, and Reynolds number based on momentum thickness, thus no new parameters not already occurring in the integral equations are introduced. The velocity- temperature relation is also an analytical expression that describes the total- temperature overshoot near the outer edge of turbulent adiabatic wall boundary layers with nonunity Prandtl number and recovery factor. The method is fast, easy to use, and shown to provide good agreement with experimental data. The resulting computer code is relatively small. A computer program listing that is applicable to the calculation of impermeable, adiabatic wall, turbulent boundary layers for Mach numbers up to three is included.
