Book excerpt: The web tables in this report provide original and revised estimates of statistics previously published in 2007-08 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:08): Student Financial Aid Estimates for 2007-08 (NCES 2009-166). The revised estimates were generated using revised weights that were updated in August 2013. NPSAS:08 data were reweighted so estimates would approximate 12-month enrollment totals for 2007-08 instead of prior year enrollment counts. A list of related NCES reports and data reports is included, along with information about PowerStats. PowerStats produces the design-adjusted standard errors necessary for testing the statistical significance of differences in the estimates. It also contains a detailed description of how each variable was created and includes question wording for items coming directly from an interview.

These findings are based on data from the 2011-12 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:12), a nationally representative sample survey of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled any time between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012, in institutions eligible to participate in federal financial aid programs. The primary purpose of NPSAS:12 is to measure how students and their families pay for postsecondary education, with particular emphasis on federal student aid provided through Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and subsequent amendments. The NPSAS:12 sample consists of about 95,000 undergraduate and 16,000 graduate students attending approximately 1,500 Title IV eligible postsecondary institutions in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.The sample represents approximately 26 million undergraduate and 4 million graduate students enrolled in postsecondary education at any time between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012. This report classifies financial aid by type and source.
