Download or read book Geology of the Solitario Dome, Trans-Pecos Texas written by Christopher D. Henry and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silurian rocks are missing, and the Lower Devonian-Mississippian Caballos Novaculite rests unconformably on the Upper Ordovician Maravillas Formation. More than 1.4 km of flysch, from a source to the southeast, forms the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian Tesnus Formation. No Paleozoic rock younger than Early Pennsylvanian (Morrowan Series) have been found. The measured thickness of Paleozoic rocks in the Solitario is approximately 2.6 km and represents a time span of 240 m.y. with a single break of ~30 m.y. during Silurian, one of the longest depositional records known. The Paleozoic rocks found in the Solitario are allochthonous and were intensely deformed during the Ouachita Orogeny. The orogeny affected the Solitario area from Middle Pennsylvanian (Desmoinesian) until Early Permian (middle Wolfcampian). Transport of the allochton during the Ouachita Orogeny was at least tens of kilometers from the southeast.

This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume highlights key challenges for fluid-flow prediction in carbonate reservoirs, the approaches currently employed to address these challenges and developments in fundamental science and technology. The papers span methods and case studies that highlight workflows and emerging technologies in the fields of geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir modelling and computer science. Topics include: detailed pore-scale studies that explore fundamental processes and applications of imaging and flow modelling at the pore scale; case studies of diagenetic processes with complementary perspectives from reactive transport modelling; novel methods for rock typing; petrophysical studies that investigate the impact of diagenesis and fault-rock properties on acoustic signatures; mechanical modelling and seismic imaging of faults in carbonate rocks; modelling geological influences on seismic anisotropy; novel approaches to geological modelling; methods to represent key geological details in reservoir simulations and advances in computer visualization, analytics and interactions for geoscience and engineering.

Book Synopsis Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins by : Cathy Busby
Download or read book Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins written by Cathy Busby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-12-07 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating the complex interplay between tectonics and sedimentation is a key endeavor in modern earth science. Many of the world's leading researchers in this field have been brought together in this volume to provide concise overviews of the current state of the subject. The plate tectonic revolution of the 1960's provided the framework for detailed models on the structure of orogens and basins, summarized in a 1995 textbook edited by Busby and Ingersoll. Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins: Recent Advances focuses on key topics or areas where the greatest strides forward have been made, while also providing on-line access to the comprehensive 1995 book. Breakthroughs in new techniques are described in Section 1, including detrital zircon geochronology, cosmogenic nuclide dating, magnetostratigraphy, 3-D seismic, and basin modelling. Section 2 presents the new models for rift, post-rift, transtensional and strike slip basin settings. Section 3 addresses the latest ideas in convergent margin tectonics, including the sedimentary record of subduction intiation and subduction, flat-slab subduction, and arc-continent collision; it then moves inboard to forearc basins and intra-arc basins, and ends with a series of papers formed under compessional strain regimes, as well as post-orogenic intramontane basins. Section 4 examines the origin of plate interior basins, and the sedimentary record of supercontinent formation. This book is required reading for any advanced student or professional interested in sedimentology, plate tectonics, or petroleum geoscience. Book Synopsis New Perspectives on Rio Grande Rift Basins: From Tectonics to Groundwater by : Mark R. Hudson
Download or read book New Perspectives on Rio Grande Rift Basins: From Tectonics to Groundwater written by Mark R. Hudson and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Extending from Colorado, USA, on the north to the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, on the south, the Rio Grande rift divides the Colorado Plateau on the west from the interior of the North American craton on the east. This volume focuses on the Rio Grande rift's upper crustal basins and is organized geographically with study areas progressing from north to south. Nineteen chapters cover a variety of topics, including sedimentation history, rift basin geometries and the influence of older structure on rift basin evolution, faulting and strain transfer within and among basins, relations of magmatism to rift tectonism, and basin hydrogeology"--Provided by publisher.
Book Synopsis Accommodation zones and transfer zones; the regional segmentation of the Basin and Range Province by : James E. Faulds
Download or read book Accommodation zones and transfer zones; the regional segmentation of the Basin and Range Province written by James E. Faulds and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the geometry, kinematic development, and origin of regional segmentation structures within the basin and range province of Western North America. Contributions range from analysis of individiual structures to broad regional syntheses, including a map of basin and range structures and tilt domains. Several papers discuss the implications of regional segmentation structures in assessing seismic hazards, hydrocarbon and mineral resources, and ground-water supplies.
